      • Comparison of Geostrophic Current Estimation around the Korean Peninsula from Remote Sensing-based MSS Models

        <P>Altimetry satellites like Geosat, ERS-1/2, Envisat and Topex-Poseidon, which have been developed and deployed since the 1970s, have collected immense arrays of data on the sea, and the data thus gathered have been used in oceanography as well as in a variety of scientific disciplines, such as geophysics and geodesy. The mean dynamic ocean topography or Sea Surface Topography (SST), obtained by calculating the difference between the Mean Sea Surface (MSS) and the geoid surface, plays a critical role in determining the earth's shape and geoid as well as in the precision modeling of the earth's gravity field, ocean currents, and tidal waves. In the study, the MSS_CNES_CLS10 (Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales Collectre Localisation Satellites 2010) and DTU10MSS (Danmarks Tekniske Universitet 2010) MSS models calculated with the data obtained by a number of altimetry and gravity observation satellites, such as Topex/Poseidon, CHAMP, and GRACE, as well as a geoid model calculated from the EGM2008 gravity field model, were employed to determine the SST around the Korean Peninsula and to calculate its geostrophic current, the key source of the sea surface current. The SST and geostrophic current were also calculated using the MSS_CNES_CLS10 and DTU10MSS MSS model calculated from the satellite data, as well as a geoid model calculated from the EGM2008 earth's gravity field model, with a maximum degree and order 20 In the study, comparing calculated velocity with measured data and previous researches, calculated velocity of current is as 2 to 4 times faster than measured velocity at the East Sea which changes depth rapidly. However, it is similar to velocity and direction at over 40km far from the coastal area and the Yellow Sea which changes depth gradually. Also, as a result of comparison with two MSS models, MSS_CNES _CLS10 model is more accurate than DTU10MSS model, but the difference was trivial. If it is possible to estimate the movement of oceanic current which are affected by wind, pressure, density, tides and temperature of ocean, and add onto method of estimating geostrophic current used in this research, we will be able to estimate in more detail at the oceanic current This study would provide some useful data for maritime voyage and fishery.</P>

        시판 천연 과일주스와 채소주스의 항산화능과 임파구 DNA 손상 방지 효능 비교

        우리나라에서 많이 이용되고 있으며 항산화 활성이 높은 것으로 알려진 시판 100% 천연 과채류 주스 중 과일주스, 채소주스, 녹즙 및 채소혼합주스의 항산화 활성을 측정하여 비교하였다. 항산화 활성의 측정법으로는 DPPH, TEAC, ORAC 법 등 세 가지 in vitro 측정법과 comet assay를 이용한 ex vivo 분석법으로 과채류 주스의 항산화능을 비교 분석하였다. DPPH 분석법으로 항산화능을 측정한 결과 블루베리주스, 채소혼합주스 C, 케일 녹즙, 채소혼합주스 P, 포도주스 순으로 높았으며, TEAC 방법으로 측정한 주스 시료들의 항산화 활성은 블루베리주스, 채소혼합주스 C, 포도주스, 채소혼합주스 P, 케일 녹즙 순으로 높았다. 또한, ORAC으로 측정한 항산화 활성은 블루베리주스, 케일 녹즙, 채소혼합주스 C, 포도주스, 오렌지주스 순으로 나타났다. 세 가지 in vitro 측정법에 따른 결과를 종합하였을 때 블루베리 주스가 항산화능이 가장 우수했으며 이어서 포도 주스, 채소혼합주스 C, 케일 녹즙 순으로 항산화 활성이 높았다. 인체의 임파구 DNA의 손상을 감소시키는 정도를 ex vivo 분석법인 comet assay로 분석한 결과 블루베리 주스와 포도 주스의 DNA 손상 감소 효과가 가장 우수한 것으로 나타난 반면, GSTM1/GSTT1 유전형에 따른 차이가 크지 않았다. 결론적으로 본 연구에서 조사한 국내에서 시판하고 있는 100% 천연 주스 14종 가운데 페놀성 화합물과 플라보노이드가 풍부한 것으로 알려진 블루베리 주스, 포도 주스의 항산화 활성이 가장 높았으며 채소혼합주스로는 안토시아닌이 풍부한 보라색을 띄는 주스류의 항산화 활성도가 높은 것으로 조사되었다. Purpose: Fruit and vegetable juices are known to be rich sources of antioxidants, which have beneficial effects on diseases caused by oxidative stress. The purpose of this study was to directly compare the antioxidant activities of fruit and vegetable juices marketed in Korea. Methods: We analyzed four fruit juices, two vegetable juices, two yellow-green juices, and six mixed vegetable juices. Antioxidant activities were analyzed using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) test, 2,2"-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonate) (ABTS) test, and oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) assay. Protective effects against DNA damage were determined using an ex vivo comet assay with human lymphocytes. Results: DPPH radical scavenging activities were in the following order: blueberry juice > mixed vegetable C juice > kale juice > mixed vegetable P juice > grape juice. ABTS radical scavenging activities were in the following order: blueberry juice > mixed vegetable C juice > grape juice > mixed vegetable P juice > kale juice. Peroxyl radical scavenging activities as assessed by ORAC assay were in the following order: blueberry juice > kale juice > mixed vegetable C juice > grape juice. Grape or blueberry juice showed strong abilities to prevent DNA damage in lymphocytes, and the difference between them was not significant according to the GSTM1/GSTT1 genotype. Conclusion: Antioxidant activities of fruit and vegetable juices and ex vivo DNA protective activity increased in the order of blueberry juice, grape juice, and kale juice, although the rankings were slightly different. Therefore, these juices rich in polyphenols and flavonoids deserve more attention for their high antioxidant capacity.

      • Stability of Purified Bee Venom on the Treatment Temperature

        For the investigation of the stability of purified bee venom(PBV) during the treatment in the temperature range of 50℃ to 120℃ for 24 hours, respectively, melittin contents, antibacterial effects, and cell regenerations were investigated. The changes in the melittin contents of PBV were not significantly different by treatment temperature below 70℃ for 24 houes and 80℃ for 4 hours. However the melttin contents is great decline after 24 hours above 80℃ for 24 hours. Antibacterial effects is not change below 80℃ for 4 houes but significantly decrease above 80℃ for 24 hours. Cell regenerations of PBV on human dermal fibroblast decreased at 80℃ for 24 houes, showing a significant difference from the below 80℃ for 4 houes. Through the temperature stability of PBV results of this study, it was treated that the melittin contents, antibacterial effects and cell regeneration effects of PBV could be maintained above 80℃ for 4 hours.

      • Water soluble royal jelly enhances migration and proliferation of human dermal fibroblasts in vitro wound healing model

        Royal jelly (RJ) is exclusive food that is secreted from the hypopharyngeal and mandibular glands of worker honeybees, and it is well known to be a necessary for the growth of the queen honeybee Although fresh royal jelly have been demonstrated to enhance wound healing, the wound healing effects of water soluble royal jelly (WSRJ) have not been elucidated. We investigated whether WSRJ promotes the migration, attachment, and proliferation of human dermal fibroblasts (HDFs) during in vitro wound healing. HDFs were treated with 1-5ug/ml WSRJ and RJ for up to 24hr following wound formation. Cell migration was assessed by measuring recovery from wound margin, while cell attachment and proliferation were determined by MTT assay. By observing the numbers of cell attached, we confirmed that not only WSRJ but also RJ did not affect on the initial cell adhesion. WSRJ (5 ug/ml) enhanced cell migration rate approximately 84.3% in HDFs at 24hr, whereas RJ (5 ug/ml) increased cell migration rate 71.3% in HDFs at 24hr, which is similar to cell migration rate of WSRJ 1 ug/ml (73.7%). In cell proliferation assays, WSRJ induced an increase in the number of HDFs, compared with control and RJ. In conclusion, WSRJ promotes cell migration with increased cell proliferation in an in vitro wound healing model.

      • Therapeutic Effects of Water Soluble Danshen Extracts on Atherosclerosis

        <P>Danshen is a traditional Chinese medicine with many beneficial effects on cardiovascular diseases. The aim of this study was to evaluate the mechanisms responsible for the antiatherogenic effect of water soluble Danshen extracts (DEs). Rat vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) and human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were treated with DE. To evaluate the effects of DE <I>in vivo</I>, carotid balloon injury and tail vein thrombosis were induced in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats and iliac artery stent was induced in New Zealand white rabbits. The inhibitory action of DE on platelet aggregation was confirmed with an impedance aggregometer. DE inhibited the production of reactive oxygen species, and the migration and proliferation of platelet-derived growth factor-BB stimulated VSMCs. Furthermore, DE prevented inflammation and apoptosis in HUVECs. Both effects of DE were reconfirmed in both rat models. DE treatment attenuated platelet aggregation in both <I>in vivo</I> and <I>ex vivo</I> conditions. Pretreatment with DE prevented tail vein thrombosis, which is normally induced by <I><I>κ</I></I>-carrageenan injection. Lastly, DE-treated rabbits showed decreased in-stent restenosis of stented iliac arteries. These results suggest that water soluble DE modulates key atherogenic events in VSMCs, endothelial cells, and platelets in both <I>in vitro</I> and <I>in vivo</I> conditions.</P>

      • 실크/스판덱스 코어스펀사를 이용한 팬티스타킹의 물성 및 착용성능에 관한 연구

        The purpose of this study was 1) to investigate the physical and wear performances of panty hose made from silk/spandex core-spun yarn compared to those of nylon texturized yarn, 2) to examine these characteristics as a function of the percentage of nylon texturized yarn, 3) to evaluate thermal resistance and thermographic assessment with a thermal manikin, and 4) to investigate objective performances including microclimate and subjective sensations in wear test. Five different types of stockings made from silk/spandex core-spun yarn, nylon texturized yarn, and blends of the two types of yarn were used as test specimens. The results were as follows: 1) In warmth retention values, Q-max values, wickability, moisture regain, and breaking strength, silk/spandex core-spun yarn showed higher performance than nylon texturized yarn. 2) AS the proportion of blending level of silk/spandex core-spun yarn increases these properties also increased. 3) Clo values measured using thermal manikin increased in the following order: silk/spandex core-spun yarn stocking>silk>spandex core-spun and nylon texturized yarn core-spun yarn stocking, silk/spandex core-spun and nylon texturized yarn blended>nylon texturized yarn. 4) Silk/spandex core-spun yarn stocking showed butter objective wear performances related to the microclimate temperatures & humidity, and were more comfortable based on subjective sensations including thermal, humidity, tactile, and overall sensation.

      • 스판덱스 방사방법 차이에 따른 스타킹의 착용감 비교

        The purpose of this study was to compare the wear sensation of panty hose stockings made of two differently processed spandex. Specimens were four panty hose stockings. Two of them were made of spandex by dry spinning and the others by wet spinning. As a field wear study, each subject had spent a day with wearing the stockings one by one, and then evaluated the subjective sensation such as tactile, haptic, transparent sensation, fit, comfort and appearance. Panty hose stockings made of spandex by wet spinning were evaluated comparatively rougher and uneven than those by dry spinning. Those by wet spinning were evaluated more transparent, less fit and more comfortable than those by dry spinning. And the subjects evaluated the appearance of panty hose stockings by wet spinning less attractive than those by dry spinning. Because panty hose stockings by wet spinning were more rough, uneven and less fit than those by dry spinning, it was thought that they are more desirable for the end use of summer stockings and more useful for middle aged women who prefer comfort and less fit. However, it needs to enhance the stretchability to increase fit in the case of stockings made of spandex by wet spinning.
