Characterization of genital injuries secondary to foreign bodies from 2011 to 2020

Purpose: To identify demographic trends of foreign object genital injuries presenting to emergency departments from 2011 to 2020. Materials and Methods: The National Electronic Injury Surveillance System database reports consumer product-related injuries in United States ED visits. The database was queried to identify 375 cases of genital injuries from 2011 to 2020. Inclusion criteria consisted of cases reporting injuries involving the urethra, penis, or scrotum. Data was reported and analyzed using linear regression. Results: Based on 375 cases, an estimated 13,170 (95% confidence interval, 10,817–15,522) patients in the US suffered genital injuries due to foreign bodies between 2011 and 2020. These injuries involved the penis (65.9%), urethra (30.7%) and scrotum (3.5%). Of all patients, 11.8% required hospital admission after treatment of which injuries to the urethra were most common (44.0%). Most of these patients were ages 19 to 64 (66.1%). Consumer products most implicated included rings (50.7%), zippers (17.1%), and pens and pencils (10.3%). Injuries due to zippers and swimming apparel occurred significantly more frequently in patients ages 0–18 (p<0.05). Injuries due to kitchen gadgets occurred significantly more in patients ages ≥65 (p<0.05). Pens, pencils, and massage devices were items that routinely resulted in urethral injuries, often requiring hospitalization. Linear regression showed genital injuries related to foreign objects significantly increased from 2011 to 2020 (p<0.001). Conclusions: Due to the nature of injury caused to genitalia by intentional and unintentional exposure to foreign bodies, educating individuals on this topic in sexual education classes is necessary for preventing future injuries.
Reconfigurable FIR Filter for Dynamic Variation of Filter Order and Filter Coefficients

Reconfigurable finite impulse response (FIR) filters whose filter coefficients and filter order change dynamically during run-time play an important role in the software defined radio (SDR) systems, multi-channel filters, and digital up/down converters. However, there are not many reports on such reconfigurable designs which can support dynamic variation of filter order and filter coefficients. The purpose of this paper is to provide an architectural solution for the FIR filters to support run-time variation of the filter order and filter coefficients. First, two straightforward designs, namely, (i) single-MAC based design and (ii) full-parallel design are presented. For large variation of the filter order, two designs based on (iii) folded structure and (iv) fast FIR algorithm are presented. Finally, we propose (v) high throughput design which provides significant advantage in terms of hardware and/or time complexities over the other designs. We compare complexities of all the five structures, and provide the synthesis results for verification.

This paper uses a simple general equilibrium model to isolate the transfer effects resulting from protection in Malaysia. Ignoring the deadweight losses associated with protection, the model uses the concept of true protection to construct a transfer matrix which shows how income is transferred among various sectors of the economy. The evidence suggests that it is only the exporters who pay for protection. The cost to Malaysian exporters was about 2.56 percent of GDP in 1989.

Abrasive wear behaviour of TiB2reinforced in-situ magnesium RZ5 alloy-based metal matrix composites was investigatedusing a pin-on-disc wear testing apparatus. The in-situ RZ5/TiB2 composite was synthesized through the self-propagatinghigh-temperature synthesis route. The microstructure of the composite revealed a near-uniform distribution of TiB2in magnesiummatrix. The abrasive wear behaviour on the base RZ5 alloy and TiB2reinforced composites were investigated in termsof weight loss and co-efficient of friction. The effect of varying applied load (10–30 N), sliding distance (1000–3000 m),and wt% of TiB2content on abrasive wear properties were analysed. The results indicated a higher wear loss of the materialswith increase in the applied load and sliding distance. Co-efficient of friction decreased with increase in the applied loadbut increased with increase in sliding distance. The morphology of the worn surface under different test conditions wasanalysed in terms of delamination, wear groove, oxide, and wear debris formation using field emission scanning electronmicroscope. Large flaky shape wear debris was noticed when the load applied is 30 N whereas equiaxed wear debris wasnoticed when the applied load is 10 N. Increase in sliding distance increased the contact temperature led to the formation ofthe oxide layer on the contact surface.
Current Status of Fisheries and Aquaculture in Tunisia

Compared to other North African countries, Tunisia has reached a significant level of fish consumption. The only relevant historical dimension of aquaculture in Tunisia are traditional lagoon management (80,000 ha of lagoon and coastal lakes) and culture of shellfish. Semi-intensive and intensive cultures are relatively new concepts in Tunisia and only recently also the public sector is involved. The Tunisian fishing industry has expanded over the last 20 years and annual catches at present are more than four times those registered in mid-fifties. Production of the year 2007 reached 105 thousand tons against 111 thousand tons during the same period of 2006 thus recording a fall of 5%. Unfavorable weather conditions mainly during the last quarter year had the effect to reduce the number of days out at sea. Exports reached 24.3 thousand tons for one value 240.5 MD against respectively 22.2 thousand tons and 234.1 thus recording MD at the end of the past year a rise of 9% in volume and from 3% in value. Commercial value such as shellfish - consequence of one regression of the production - with in parallel raises blue fish exports. The imports were stabilized in volume of 39.1 thousand tons and increased from 6% in value with respectively 67.4 MD in 2007 against 63.7 MD at the end of 2006. The importation in larger quantities of intended fish to the fattening of tuna in floating cages explains partly this rise. Nevertheless, the pay of balance import/export of produced fishing remains positive with a surplus of 173.1 MD against 170.4 MD in 2006.
