We have successfully grown EuS (111) epitaxial films on BaF2 (111) and SrF2 (111) substratesby using molecular beam epitaxy at substrate temperatures (TS’s) between 100 and 500 C. Polefigures of X-ray diffraction indicate a high degree of in-plane orientation, and all of the samplesshowvery high resistivity. The surface roughness for 10-nm-thick EuS films on BaF2 (111) and SrF2 (111)substrates measured by using atomic force microscopy (AFM) are 0.122 and 0.092 nm, respectively. The Curie temperature of the EuS films increases up to 16 K with increasing TS. We also try tomanipulate the coercive force, which is an important magnetic property, by Te-doping to achieve ananti-parallel magnetization state between two ferromagnetic layers in spin devices. The obtainedcoercive force for the Te-doped film (110 Oe) is large compared with that for the undoped one (20Oe).
Generalization of Even-Shift Orthogonal Sequences to Multi-Dimension

The even-shift orthogonal sequence (E-sequence) is a binary sequence, whose out-of-phase aperiodic autocorrelation function takes zero at any even shift. This paper considers the generalization of E-sequence to multidimension. It is shown that multi-dimensional E-sequences can be constructed by multi-dimensional complementary sequences. Especially a logic function generating multidimensional E-sequences of power-of-two length is formulated, which can give multi-dimensional E-sequences with a good correlation property that almost 3/4 of all shifts is zero.
Experimental Evaluation of Optical ZCZ-CDMA System

The optical ZCZ code, which is a set of pairs of binary and bi-phase sequences with zero correlation zone, can provide optical code division multiple access (CDMA) communication system without co-channel interference. We proposed the compact construction of a code generator and a bank of matched filters for this code. This paper gives and evaluates an optical ZCZ-CDMA wireless communication system, consisting of a infrared light emitting diode(LED), an avalanche photo diode(APD) module and field programmable gate array(FPGA) boards corresponding to 400, 000 logic gates.

<P> A highly selective colorimetric chemosensor based on fluoran dye for iron cations, 2'-anilino-3'methyl-6'-dibuthylamino-N-(2'-(2''-hydroxybenzylideneamino)ethyl) iso-indolin-1-one-fluoran (5), was designed and synthesized. The chemical structures of all the intermediates and fluoran dye 5 were characterized by 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, MS and elemental analysis. And its sensing behavior toward metal ions was investigated by UV-visible absorption spectroscopes. The fluoran dye 5 chemosensor showed an extreme selectivity for Fe2+ and Fe3+ in acetonitrile solution. Whereas other ions including Mg2+, Pd2+, Ni2+, Hg2+, Cd2+, Ag+, Cu2+, Zn2+ and Al3+ induced basically no spectral change, which constituted a Fe2+ highly sensitive and selective colorimetric chemosensor from colorless to black by “naked eyes.” Spectral responses at &lgr;max = 653 nm reveals that dye 5 can function as OR logic gate with Fe2+ and Fe3+ as input variables.</P>
Is glue embolization safe and effective for gastrointestinal bleeding?

Transcatheter arterial embolization using N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate (NBCA) for gastrointestinal arterial bleeding enables higher cessation rate and lower recurrent bleeding rate compared with conventional embolic materials including gelatin sponge, metallic coil, and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) particle. Glue embolization is particularly effective in patients with coagulopathy. Even in the lower gastrointestinal tract, ischemic bowel complications by glue embolization are comparable to other agents. Glue embolization is also effective for arterial esophageal bleeding without any serious ischemic complications although the anatomy of the esophageal artery is complex and varied. For bleeding after abdominal surgery such as pancreaticoduodenectomy or hepatic lobectomy, interventional radiologists should be careful with indicating glue embolization because the presence of fewer collateral vessels can easily result in serious ischemic complications. Modified glue such as Glubran 2 (NBCA associated with methacryloxyfulfolane) can reduce the risk of ischemic complication due to its less thermal reaction, but the outcomes seem unsatisfactory.
