Revisiting the “Responsibility to Protect” and the Use of Force

Efforts to “operationalize” the Responsibility to Protect (R2P) continue to encounter resistance from key member states. Where it matters most, among vulnerable civilian populations caught up in war, the R2P appears to be making scant difference. Rising geopolitical tensions have added to a growing sense of pessimism among R2P advocates. Unsurprisingly, the most contentions aspect of the R2P concept continues to revolve around the question of the use of force for humanitarian purposes. It is a subject on which states, for an admixture of historical and political reasons, remain deeply divided. Nonetheless, as a politically significant norm, the R2P has come to command growing support from states, even though the degree to which the R2P norm has been truly internalized across international society varies greatly.
Lexical Anisomorphism : A Matter of Culture or Structure ?

The purpose of this paper is to discuss lexical anisomorphism from the perspective offered by the Finnish-Swedish General Dictionary, co-edited in part by the present writer. Finnish and Swedish stand out among most languages pairs involved in bilingual dictionaries, insofar as they have a very different language structure(Finnish belonging to the Finno-Ugrian, Swedish to the Germanic group of the Indo-European family of languages). Yet, for mainly historical reasons the speakers of Finnish and Swedish to a remarkable degree share the same culture, world view and way of life. Against this background, the author proceeds to discuss whether the lexical gaps in the above dictionary are of a structure-or a culture-related character. The expression $quot;culture-related$quot; should here be taken to understand also cases where universal designata have found lexical expression only in the source language.

Filling of the tool die directly influences dimensional tolerances and density variation. To minimize the variations in filling, both within different sections of the cavity and from part to part, are of great importance for produce high quality P/M parts. Filling of the tool die is also one of the limiting factors in the productivity in powder pressing. By using aeration filling in combination with bonded powder mixes, both weight scatter and productivity can be improved. In this presentation results are presented showing the benefit of using aeration filling for different types of powders
Development of Somaloy Components for a BLDC Motor in a Scroll Compressor Application

Electric scroll-compressor drives are commonly used for e.g. home appliance cooling units. The recent development of hybrid cars with internal combustion engine in combination with electrical propulsion requires new solutions to be able to cool the passenger compartment of cars at stand-still. Both application areas demand efficient motor drives to reach good economy and efficient use of limited battery power as well as competitive volume/weight for a given output. The BLDC motor is a controllable and efficient solution. A major part of the motor is the soft-magnetic core. The powder based Somaloy® material shows high resistivity and induction as the result of engineered iron particles with in-organic coating. The unique features of compacted Somaloy® components can be utilized to enhance the shape and total volume of the BLDC motor with at least maintained efficiency compared to the use of traditional laminated steel sheet cores. A careful design of the Somaloy® components can also simplify assembly and positively influence the coil configuration. This study shows a comparison between a typical laminated BLDC motor and a redesigned, Somaloy® based version adapted for a scroll-compressor application.
The development of practice model for uterus auto-transplantation using domestic pigs

Objective: The present study aims to develop a practice model for uterus auto-transplantation using domestic pigs. Methods: Ten domestic pigs were used to develop a practice model. First 3 pigs are used for anatomical investigation to choose proper vessels used for anastomoses. Seven pigs were used to perform the uterus auto-transplantation. Under general anesthesia, the bicornuate uterus was carefully dissected and harvested with its bilateral feeding arteries and draining veins. The feeding arteries were bilateral umbilical arteries and the draining veins were bilateral ovarian arteries. After harvesting the uterus, bilateral arteries were cannulated immediately and the uterus was flushed with cold (+4 C) Custodiol (HTK) solution supplemented with xylocaine (0.4 mg/ml). The uterus was stored at +4 cooling chamber during during flushing. Flushed uterus was placed in its original position and the bilateral umbilical arteries and bilateral ovarian veins were anastomosed end to side to bilateral external iliac arteries and veins respectively. Indocyanine green (ICG) angiography was performed to monitor of reperfusion for 1hour. Results: Mean total operation time was 298 minutes and mean duration of donor surgery was 119 minutes. The mean cold ischemic time was 56 minutes and the mean warm ischemic time was 123 minutes. Estimated mean blood loss was 200 mL. All seven auto-transplanted pigs were considered well isolated and flushed. They also showed satisfactory reperfusion judged by change in gross appearance and ICG angiography. Conclusion: This study showed that a practice model for uterus auto-transplantation using domestic pigs is feasible and demonstrated that a satisfactory reperfusion could be achieved.
