Background: The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission Cancer Registry (PAECCR) program has made availability of a common cancer incidence database possible in Pakistan. The cancer incidence data from nuclear medicine and oncology institutes were gathered and presented. Materials and Methods: The cancer incidence data for the last 30 years (1984-2014) are included to describe a data set of male and female patients. The data analysis concerning occurrence, trends of common cancers in male and female patients, stage-wise distribution, and mortality/follow-up cases is also incorporated for the last 10 years (2004-2014). Results: The total population of provincial capital Lahore is 9,800,000. The total number of cancer cases was 80,390 (males 32,156, females 48,134). The crude incidence rates in PAECCR areas were 580.8/$10^5$ during 2010 to 885.4/$10^5$ in 2014 (males 354.1/$10^5$, females 530.1/$10^5$). The cancer incidence rates for head and neck (15.70%), brain tumors (10.5%), and non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL, 9.53%) were found to be the highest in male patients, whereas breast cancer (46.7%), ovary tumors (6.80%), and cervix (6.31%) cancer incidence rates were observed to be the most common in female patients. The age range distribution of diagnosed and treated patients in conjunction with the percentage contribution of cancer patients from 15 different cities of Punjab province treated at the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Oncology, Lahore are also included. Leukemia was found to be the most common cancer for the age group of 1-12 years. It has been identified that the maximum number of diagnosed cases were found in the age range of 51-60 years for males and 41-50 years for female cancer patients. Conclusions: Overall cancer incidence of the thirty years demonstrated that head and neck and breast cancers in males and in females respectively are the most common cancers in Punjab province in Pakistan, at rates almost the highest in Asia, requiring especial attention. The incidence of brain, NHL, and prostate cancers among males and ovarian and cervix cancers among females have increased rapidly. These data from a major population of Punjab province should be helpful for implementation of appropriate planning, prevention and cancer control measures and for determination of risk factors within the country.
Mathematical modeling of smart nanoparticles-reinforced concrete foundations: Vibration analysis
Masood Kargar,Mahmood Rabani Bidgoli 국제구조공학회 2018 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.27 No.4
In this research, vibration and smart control analysis of a concrete foundation reinforced by SiO2 nanoparticles and covered by piezoelectric layer on soil medium is investigated. The soil medium is simulated with spring constants and the Mori-Tanaka low is used for obtaining the material properties of nano-composite structure and considering agglomeration effects. With considering first order shear deformation theory, the total potential energy of system is calculated and by means of Hamilton.s principle in three displacement directions and electric potential, the six coupled equilibrium equations are obtained. Also, based an analytical method, the frequency of system is calculated. The effects of applied voltage, volume percent and agglomeration of SiO2 nanoparticles, soil medium and geometrical parameters of structure are shown on the frequency of system. Results show that with applying negative voltage, the frequency of structure is increased.
Identification of Piecewise affine Systems with Hysteresis Model
Masood Askari,Haider A. F. Mohamed,Mahmoud Moghavvemi,S. S. Yang 제어로봇시스템학회 2008 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2008 No.10
A general nonlinear system can be identified as a piecewise affine system by approximating a nonlinear function using a piecewise affine one with arbitrary accuracy. In this paper, the problem of identifying discrete-time hybrid systems in the piecewise affine form where the discrete state depends on continuous state with a hysteresis function is addressed. The first step of the proposed identification method is the estimation of the local parameter vectors for small neighborhood of each measured data point. Then the local parameter vectors are clustered. Finally, the threshold levels of the hysteresis function which defines the discrete state are estimated.

Zinc oxide nanorod arrays (ZnO NRs) were grown from ZnO seed-coated substrates in an aqueous solution by using the hydrothermal method for different growth periods varying from 5 min to 1 hour. The influence of the growth period of the ZnO nanorods on photovoltaic applications was studied in detail. Experimental results showed that utilization of the nanorod arrays lead to an enhanced the cell performance by increasing of light absorption and creation of a vertical direction for electron transport in the solar cells. A power conversion efficiency of 3.33% with an opencircuit voltage of VOC = 0.58 V, a short-circuit current of JSC = 10.05 mA/cm2 and a fill factor of FF = 54.35% was achieved for solar cells based on ZnO NRs with growth period of 20 min. Such solar cells with an optimal growth period are effective in light trapping, which leads to a significant enhancement in the absorption of light, and thereby, show an obvious increase in the power conversion efficiency.
Unusual Intronic Variant in GSTP1 in Head and Neck Cancer in Pakistan
Masood, Nosheen,Malik, Faraz Arshad,Kayani, Mahmood Akhtar Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.4
In the present case control study mRNA expression of the GSTP1 gene, encoding a phase II enzyme that detoxifies via glutathione conjugation, was investigated using semiquantitative PCR followed by SSCP for 49 confirmed head and neck (HN) cancer and 49 control samples. It was found that GSTP1 was upregulated in significantly higher number of cancers (OR 4.2, 95% CI 1.2-15.3). Grade wise correlation was also observed with more up regulation in patients with more advanced grades of HN carcinomas. We also found that 5 patients showed variation in mRNA with a larger product size than expected. Sequencing revealed insertion of an intronic segment between the $6^{th}$ and $7^{th}$ exon of the GSTP1 gene. Germline screening was performed showing mobility shifts which suggested mutation at the DNA level resulting in intronic portion retention. This study is of prime importance for drug design and treatment selection to overcome increased resistance of HN cancers to drugs due to alteration in the GSTP1 gene.

Head and neck cancer is one of the leading causes of deaths worldwide. Two genes GSTM1 and GSTT1 involved in phase II of carcinogen detoxification have been frequently studied in the literature. Their null genotypes are thought to be associated with increased head and neck cancer risk. However, the published reviews are not up to date and many important papers have been skipped. The current literature review was restricted to the null genotypes of the GSTM1 and GSTT1 genes with special emphasis on the genotypic status. We found that the size of study sample varied greatly and the oral cavity cancer was more influenced by GSTM1 and GSTT1 gene deletions. With respect to ethnicity Asians are more prone to head and neck cancers with these null genotypes as compared to Europeans and Americans. The current review showed significant associations (OR=9.0, 95%CI; 1.4-9.5; OR=3.7, 95%CI; 1.4-9.5) of GSTM1 and GSTT1 null genotypes with head and neck cancers. Review confirms the data of previous reviews that GSTM1 and GSTT1 gene polymorphisms may be risk factors for cancer initiation.
Bootstrap Correlation Analysis of Function Point Elements
Masood Uzzafer 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Database Theory and Appli Vol.9 No.3
This research work investigates the correlation of software function point elements using bootstrap simulation. The correlation of software function point elements plays an important role in understanding the software size; the correlation among function point elements suggests that they measure the same attribute of a software project. Bootstrapping is an effective method to study the statistical properties of correlation coefficients; bootstrap produces a histogram of the possible values of correlation coefficients, which helps to understand the range and spread of the correlation among different function point elements, rater then generating a single point estimate of the correlation.
Modeling and Characterization of Low Voltage Access Network for Narrowband Powerline Communications
Masood, Bilal,Haider, Arsalan,Baig, Sobia The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers 2017 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.12 No.1
Nowadays, Power Line Communication (PLC) is gaining high attention from industry and electric supply companies for the services like demand response, demand side management and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI). The reliable services to consumers using PLC can be provided by utilizing an efficient PLC channel for which sophisticated channel modeling is very important. This paper presents characterization of a Low Voltage (LV) access network for Narrowband Power Line Communications (NB-PLC) using transmission line (TL) theory and a Simulink model. The TL theory analysis not only includes the constant parameters but frequency selectivity is also introduced in these parameters such as resistance, conductance and impedances. However, the proposed Simulink channel model offers an analysis and characterization of capacitive coupler, network impedance and channel transfer function for NB-PLC. Analysis of analytical and simulated results shows a close agreement of the channel transfer function. In the absence of a standardized NBPLC channel model, this research work can prove significant in improving the efficiency and accuracy of NB-PLC communication transceivers for Smart Grid communications.

Masood, Bilal,Ellahi, Manzoor,Khan, Waheed Aftab,Akram, Waqar,Usman, Muhamad,Gul, Muhammad Talha The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers 2018 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.13 No.1
This paper presents a procedure for field measurements which provides a generalized Narrowband Power Line Communications (NB-PLC) channel model for low voltage (LV) access network in order to deploy advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) within Lahore, Pakistan. The measurements of allocated sites were performed in the residential (urban and rural), industrial and commercial electricity consumers for the NB-PLC channel modeling of overhead transmission lines (TLs). On the basis of extensive field measurement results, the average attenuation profile and transfer functions are presented. The results obtained from field measurements are validated by comparing them with a proposed Simulink model. A close agreement in the measured and simulated transfer function (TF) results is observed. The proposed Simulink model is an effort to model the NB-PLC channels in an effective way, especially in South Asian countries.
