Exploring Rare Traumatic Injuries A Miniseries of 4 Cases Discussing Epidural Hematomas Bridging the Infratentorial and Supratentorial Regions

        Mourad Masmoudi,Ghassen Gader,Abdelhafidh Slimane,Mouna Rkhami,Mohamed Badri,Kamel Bahri,Ihsen Zammel 대한신경손상학회 2023 Korean Journal of Neurotrauma Vol.19 No.4

Supratentorial-infratentorial epidural hematomas (SIEH) are a rare occurrence following traumatic head injuries, representing only 2% of traumatic epidural hematomas. Given the unique anatomical characteristics of the infratentorial region, mainly its small size, surgical intervention is commonly undertaken to alleviate the pressure on the posterior fossa components. Consequently, there is ongoing debate surrounding the optimal surgical approaches. In this report, we present four cases of SIEH that were treated surgically. Furthermore, we conduct a comprehensive review of existing literature, encompassing clinical, radiological, and therapeutic aspects associated with this condition.SIEH are uncommon post-traumatic lesions that require urgent and individualized management on a case-by-case basis, as guided by multiplanar cerebral computed tomography scan findings. Preoperative planning is essential; however, intraoperative exploration and identification of transverse sinus and torcula lesions are crucial for optimal patient care. The surgical approach may be modified intraoperatively based on the nature and extent of these lesions. In all cases, prompt hematoma evacuation and meticulous hemostasis are the two primary objectives of this surgery.

ON CHARACTERIZING THE GAMMA AND THE BETA q-DISTRIBUTIONS

        Boutouria, Imen,Bouzida, Imed,Masmoudi, Afif Korean Mathematical Society 2018 대한수학회보 Vol.55 No.5

In this paper, our central focus is upon gamma and beta q-distributions from a probabilistic viewpoint. The gamma and the beta q-distributions are characterized by investing the nature of the joint q-probability density function through the q-independence property and the q-Laplace transform.

Separation of lithium, cobalt and nickel from spent lithium-ion batteries using TBP and imidazolium-based ionic liquids

Guillaume Zante,Abderrazak Masmoudi,Rémi Barillon,Dominique Trébouet,Maria Boltoeva 한국공업화학회 2020 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.82 No.-

Solvent extraction of lithium ions from sulfuric acid solutions was investigated using imidazolium-basedionic liquids as diluents and tri-n-butyl phosphate as specific ligand. Aqueous phases used weresimulating leach liquors of spent lithium-ion batteries, with lithium, cobalt and nickel ions in acidicsolutions. A low acidity and a large amount of extractant can ensure high extraction efficiency. But thebetter selectivity for the lithium ions over the transition metals is obtained using a low amount ofextractant and a low pH (pH < 3). The extraction of the lithium ions occurs by cation exchange with theionic liquid cations. A sacrificial cation was introduced in the organic phase to prevent the losses, but thecation exchange is only reduced by 20%. The increase of the ionic liquid cation alkyl chain length canpresumably suppress the cation exchange mechanism, reducing substantially the losses. But the additionof a lipophilic counter-anion in the organic phase is needed to ensure a mechanism of ion pairing with thelithium ion in the organic phase. Using the 1-decyl 3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide ionic liquid associated to tri-butyl phosphate, a satisfying extraction efficiency is obtained for thelithium ion, together with a sufficient selectivity among the transition metal ions.

On the existence of the Tweedie power parameter implicit estimator

        Abdelaziz Ghribi,Aymen Hassin,Afif Masmoudi 대한수학회 2022 대한수학회보 Vol.59 No.4

A special class of exponential dispersion models is the class of Tweedie distributions. This class is very significant in statistical modeling as it includes a number of familiar distributions such as Gaussian, Gamma and compound Poisson. A Tweedie distribution has a power parameter $p$, a mean $m$ and a dispersion parameter $\phi$. The value of the power parameter lies in identifying the corresponding distribution of the Tweedie family. The basic objective of this research work resides in investigating the existence of the implicit estimator of the power parameter of the Tweedie distribution. A necessary and sufficient condition on the mean parameter $m$, suggesting that the implicit estimator of the power parameter $p$ exists, was established and we provided some asymptotic properties of this estimator.

Industrial interests and requirements for improvement of pearl millet, a gluten-free and climate-smart underutilized cereal

        Leila Riahi,Mériam Ben-Romdhane,Ahmed S. Masmoudi (사)한국식물생명공학회 2024 JOURNAL OF PLANT BIOTECHNOLOGY Vol.51 No.2

Pearl millet is a small-seeded staple crop in arid and semi-arid regions of Africa and Asia. It is the crop of choice in the hottest and driest climates where other cereals do not grow well and is considered a future climate-smart cereal. This underutilized cereal provides nutritional and food security to millions of people. It is also used as animal feed, fuel, and fodder as well as in brewing. The gluten-free grains of this cereal are rich sources of fats, proteins, carbohydrates, minerals, especially iron and zinc, and phenolics with health-promoting properties. Pearl millet also has industrial uses in the production of bioenergy, biodegradable products, bio-coagulants, and construction materials, and in tissue engineering. Pearl millet hybrids have gained considerable popularity among Indian farmers, resulting in a significant increase in production yields. However, pearl millet production in Africa is primarily dependent on traditional landraces with limited acceptance of improved open-pollinated varieties and hybrids. Consequently, no significant increase in pearl millet production has been achieved over the past few decades. Despite its inherent resilience against poor climates, this staple crop faces a complex array of abiotic and biotic stresses in its production areas, which is exacerbated by ongoing climate change. Furthermore, certain anti-nutritional traits impede its overall nutritional value and effective utilization. Hence, improving pearl millet is a continuous and significant challenge for plant breeders and biotechnologists.

Perfect tracking of ZMP trajectory for humanoid locomotion using repetitive control

Mohamed A. Sayari,Riadh Zaier,Neila Masmoudi 대한기계학회 2019 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.33 No.12

In this paper, the tracking of the zero moment point (ZMP) trajectory for humanoid locomotion is addressed. For that, a combination of a repetitive controller (RC) and a linear quadratic regulator (LQR) is proposed. The RC controller achieves a zero steady state tracking error for any periodic desired output with a fixed period. Here, the robot model is simplified as a cart table model. In the first stage, a walking pattern with constant gait is considered to allow the use of a repetitive controller. The results are then compared to a classical PD control. In the second part, the proposed controller is applied to track a desired ZMP profile generated using a central pattern generator (CPG). Here, the speed of the oscillator is adjusted via a proper selection of the parameters of the CPG and the RC design is simultaneously updated to assure the perfect tracking of the ZMP.

Molecular characterization and in silico analysis of RNA polymerase alpha subunit gene (rpoA) in Date Palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.) cv. Deglet Nour

        Amina Dhieb,Amine Elleuch,Walid Kriaa,Faiza Masmoudi,Nourredine Drira 한국유전학회 2012 Genes & Genomics Vol.34 No.6

The rpoA gene coding for the α-subunit of DNA-dependent RNA polymerase located in the chloroplastic genome of date palm has been characterized from the elite cultivar Deglet Nour by cloning and sequencing of the PCR amplification product. The full length of rpoA-Pd (Phoenix dactylifera)gene was 1014 bp. The comparison in Genbank showed that the rpoA gene has a 100% homology with the Khalas cultivar of date palm and a strong homology with Oil Palm (99%). The deduced protein full length is 337 amino acid corresponding to 38,692 Da polypeptide. It contained an Alpha N-terminal domain (alpha-NTD) between 1 to 233 (aa) and Alpha C-terminal domain (alpha-CTD) between 266 to 337 (aa). Initially, we have compared the sequences of the full-length DNA rpoA gene from Date Palm and Oil palm, 15 mutations have been detected, 4 do not affect amino acid sequences. A multiple alignment of protein sequences of Date Palm and other plants shows 6 mutations specific for palms family and one is specific to monocots species. A multiple alignment of 35 nucleotide sequences from different plant species shows 3 SNPs specific to Date Palm, 6 SNPs specific to Palms family and 6 other to monocot species. The phylogenetic analysis performed in this work shows a strong similarity between Pd-rpoA and rpoA genes from other plant species, but it shows a great divergence with the rpoA of E. coli. To explain whether the separation of the two clades was due to selection pressure. We calculate the ratio Ka/Ks for different species. A synteny analyses of rpoA genes was effected, a high genomic synteny is observed for the ropA in all the species included in this study.

Efficient in vitro regeneration of the endangered species Artemisia arborescens L. through direct organogenesis and impact on secondary metabolites production

        Riahi Leila,Chograni Hnia,Ben Rejeb Fedoua,Ben Romdhane Meriam,Masmoudi Ahmed Slaheddine,Cherif Ameur 한국원예학회 2022 Horticulture, Environment, and Biotechnology Vol.63 No.3

Tree wormwood (Artemisia arborescens L.; family Asteraceae) is an endangered medicinal and ornamental plant with industrial and ecological potentials. Here, we report an efficient micropropagation method for the in vitro regeneration of this species. Initiation culture was established from nodal segments in basic Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium. Shoot induction and elongation were assessed in MS medium supplemented with different concentrations of 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP; 0–1.5 mg/L) in combination with indole 3-acetic acid (IAA; 0–0.4 mg/L). The growth regulators combination of 0.5 mg/L BAP + 0.1 mg/L IAA gave the best result with a 100% shoot induction rate and morphologically stable vitroplants without callogenesis. The half-strength MS medium supplemented with 1 mg/L indole 3-butyric acid (IBA) resulted in the highest rooting rate, the maximum root number, and the highest root length. Rooted plantlets were successfully acclimatized with a 70% survival rate. The phytochemical analyses revealed enhanced total phenolic and flavonoid contents in the micropropagated plants compared to the mother plant. However, no significant fluctuations were recorded for the condensed tannins and essential oil contents between the micropropagated plants and the mother plant. The GC-MS analysis revealed that, except for some minor compounds which showed significant variation between the in vitro regenerated plants and the mother plant, contents of the main essential oil components were unchanged. This simple and rapid in vitro regeneration protocol through direct organogenesis could be applied both for ex situ and in situ conservation programs and for the sustainable production of tree wormwood bioactive phytochemicals.

      • Computational analysis of magnetized bio-convective partially ionized flow of second-order fluid on a bidirectional porous stretching sheet with Cattaneo–Christov theory

Khan Muhammad Naveed,Khan Aamir Abbas,Alhowaity Awatif,Masmoudi Atef,Daradkeh Yousef Ibrahim,Afikuzzaman Mohammad 한국CDE학회 2024 Journal of computational design and engineering Vol.11 No.1

After applying a magnetic field, the behavior of the partly ionized liquids is completely different from that of the ordinary fluids. In this study, we concentrated on the Cattaneo–Christov heat flux model-based three-dimensional partly ionized bio-convective flow of a second-order fluid on a bidirectional permeable stretching surface. The development of the thermal and solutal flow models takes into account the impacts of non-uniform sources and sinks, Ohmic viscous dissipation, and chemical reactions. In addition, the surface boundary effects of electron and ion collisions with convective boundary conditions are seen. The mathematical flow model is transformed appropriately to create an ordinary differential equations, which is then numerically solved with MATLAB’s BVP4C approach. To demonstrate the physical relevance of the flow field along various developing parameters, graphical and tabular results are created. It is noteworthy to note that while fluid temperature decreases with stronger values of the second-order fluid parameter, fluid velocity improves in both directions. In addition, it is shown that raising the thermal and concentration relaxation parameters, respectively, causes a drop in the fluid temperature and nanoparticle concentration.
