      • Stabilization of Linear Time-Varying Descriptor Systems

        Masaki Inoue,Teruyo Wada,Masao Ikeda,Eiho Uezato 제어로봇시스템학회 2008 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2008 No.10

This paper considers stabilization of linear time-varying descriptor systems with continuous and bounded coefficient matrices. First, a necessary and sufficient condition for exponential stability is presented as solvability of a linear matrix differential inequality. Then, the stability condition is utilized to derive a feedback control law for stabilization of the descriptor system. The proposed feedback gain extracts the dynamic component of the descriptor variable. A numerical example is presented.

The Efficacy of Yellow Tape Formulation of Pyriproxyfen against the Sweet Potato Whitefly, Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) (Homoptera: Aleyrodidae)

        Nakamura, Satoshi,Inoue, Masao,Fujimoto, Hiroaki,Kasamatsu, Kiyoshi Korean Society of Applied Entomology 2007 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.10 No.1

A tape formulation of pyriproxyfen was pre-pared by coating the chemical onto yellow plastic film. We evaluated the trans ovarial ovicidal activity of the tape formulation against Bemisia tabaci and investigated the optimal application method and efficacy in a greenhouse. The tape formulation showed high ovicidal activity of over 80% mortality against B. tabaci for 4 days by a 30-second compulsory contact test. The formulation controlled the B. tabaci population on tomatoes by both "sideways spreading application" and "vertical hanging application". "Sideways spreading application" was considered to be more practical, although there was no significant difference in efficacy between the two application methods. In a large-scale greenhouse trial of "sideways spreading application", the tape formulation suppressed the B. tabaci population for 77 days. The results suggested that the tape formulation is promising as a tool for IPM because of its high efficacy and lower environmental impact.

Preoperative Low Back Pain Affects Postoperative Patient Satisfaction Following Minimally Invasive Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion Surgery

        Hiranaka Yoshiaki,Miyazaki Shingo,Inoue Shinichi,Ryu Masao,Yurube Takashi,Kakutani Kenichiro,Tadokoro Ko 대한척추외과학회 2023 Asian Spine Journal Vol.17 No.4

Study Design: A single-center retrospective study.Purpose: To research the predictive factors associated with postoperative patient satisfaction 1 year after minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (MIS-TLIF), a minimally invasive procedure for lumbar degenerative disease.Overview of Literature: There have been reports of numerous variables influencing patient satisfaction with lumbar surgery; however, there have been few investigations on MIS are limited. Methods: This study included 229 patients (107 men and 122 women; mean age, 68.9 years) who received one or two levels of MISTLIF, and the patient’s age, gender, disease, paralysis, preoperative physical functions, duration of symptom(s), and surgery-associated factors (waiting for surgery, number of surgical levels, surgical time, and intraoperative blood loss) were studied. Radiographic characteristics and clinical outcomes such as Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) scores and Visual Analog Scale (VAS; 0–100) ODI scores for low back pain, leg pain, and numbness were studied. One year following surgery, patient satisfaction (defined as satisfaction for surgery and for present condition; 0–100) was assessed using VAS and its relationships with investigation factors were examined. Results: The mean VAS scores of satisfaction for surgery and for present condition were 88.6 and 84.2, respectively. The results of multiple regression analysis showed that preoperative adverse factors of satisfaction for surgery were being elderly (<i>β </i>=-0.17, <i>p</i> =0.023), high preoperative low back pain VAS scores (<i>β</i> =-0.15, <i>p</i> =0.020), and postoperative adverse factors were high postoperative ODI scores (<i>β </i> =-0.43, <i>p</i> <0.001). In addition, the preoperative adverse factor of satisfaction for present condition was high preoperative low back pain VAS scores (<i>β </i> =-0.21, <i>p</i> =0.002), and postoperative adverse factors were high postoperative ODI scores (<i>β </i> =-0.45, <i>p</i> <0.001) and high postoperative low back pain VAS scores (β =-0.26, p =0.001).Conclusions: According to this study, significant preoperative low back pain and high postoperative ODI score after surgery are linked to patient unhappiness.

Low-Dose Pegylated Interferon α-2b Plus Ribavirin for Elderly and/or Cirrhotic Patients with Genotype 2 Hepatitis C Virus

        Hideyuki Tamai,Naoki Shingaki,Yoshiyuki Mori,Kosaku Moribata,Akira Kawashima,Yoshimasa Maeda,Toru Niwa,Hisanobu Deguchi,Izumi Inoue,Takao Maekita,Mikitaka Iguchi,Jun Kato,Masao Ichinose 거트앤리버 소화기연관학회협의회 2016 Gut and Liver Vol.10 No.4

Background/Aims: This study aimed to predict sustained viral response (SVR) to low-dose pegylated interferon (PEGIFN) plus ribavirin of elderly and/or cirrhotic patients with genotype 2 hepatitis C virus (HCV) using viral response within 2 weeks. Methods: Low-dose PEG-IFN-α-2b plus ribavirin was administered to 50 elderly and/or cirrhotic patients with genotype 2 HCV for 24 weeks. The dynamics of HCV RNA and HCV core antigen levels within 2 weeks were measured. Results: The patients’ median age was 66 years. There were 21 male and 29 female patients. The median baseline HCV RNA level was 5.7 log IU/mL. Rapid viral response was achieved in 17 patients (34%), SVR in 28 (56%), and two (4%) discontinued treatment. Univariate analysis of factors contributing to SVR showed significant differences for sex, baseline virus level, and response within 4 weeks. When 40 fmol/L was set as the cutoff value for the core antigen level at 1 week, the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and accuracy for predicting SVR were 93%, 75%, 84%, 88%, and 85%, respectively. Conclusions: Low-dose PEG-IFN plus ribavirin was a safe and costeffective treatment for elderly and/or cirrhotic patients with genotype 2 HCV, and the viral response within 2 weeks was a useful predictor of SVR.

Association between Osteoporosis and Skeletal Muscle Mass in Men

        Mizutani Masaya,Eguchi Yawara,Toyoguchi Toru,Orita Sumihisa,Inage Kazuhide,Shiga Yasuhiro,Maki Satoshi,Nakamura Junichi,Hagiwara Shigeo,Aoki Yasuchika,Inoue Masahiro,Koda Masao,Takahashi Hiroshi,Akaza 대한척추외과학회 2024 Asian Spine Journal Vol.18 No.1

Study Design: Cross-sectional study.Purpose: This cross-sectional study aimed to investigate the risk factors for osteoporosis in men by assessing bone mineral density (BMD), skeletal muscle mass, body fat mass, grip strength, and advanced glycation end products (AGEs).Overview of Literature: Fewer studies have reported the correlation between BMD and skeletal muscle mass in women. Moreover, a few studies have examined the relationship between osteoporosis and skeletal muscle mass. Methods: This study included 99 men (mean age, 74.9 years; range, 28–93 years) who visited Qiball Clinic for BMD and body composition examinations. The osteoporosis group consisted of 24 patients (mean age, 72.5 years; range, 44–92 years), and the control group consisted of 75 individuals (mean age, 74.9 years; range, 28–93 years). Whole-body skeletal muscle mass was measured using a bioelectrical impedance analyzer. BMD was measured by dual X-ray absorptiometry. Skin autofluorescence (SAF), a marker of dermal AGE accumulation, was measured using a spectroscope. Osteoporosis was defined as a bone density T score of –2.5 or less. Physical findings, skeletal muscle mass, BMD, grip strength, and SAF were compared between the osteoporosis and control groups. Results: The osteoporosis group had significantly lower trunk muscle mass (23.1 kg vs. 24.9 kg), lower leg muscle mass (14.4 kg vs. 13.0 kg), and skeletal mass index (7.1 kg/m2 vs. 6.7 kg/m2) than the control group (all <i>p</i><0.05). Lower limb muscle mass was identified as a risk factor for osteoporosis in men (odds ratio, 0.64; <i>p</i>=0.03).Conclusions: Conservative treatment of osteoporosis in men will require an effective approach that facilitates the maintenance or strengthening of skeletal muscle mass, including exercise therapy with a focus on lower extremities and nutritional supplementation.
