Evaluation and bias in negative yes-no questions
Margarita Dimitrova(Margarita Dimitrova ) 경희대학교 언어정보연구소 2022 언어연구 Vol.39 No.3
The goal of the present work is to discuss the properties of negative yes-no questions capitalising on data from Bulgarian. Negative yes-no questions have traditionally been considered a case of expletive or pleonastic negation, i.e. the negation marker is void of negative content and does not contribute to the negative interpretation of the structure. In view of this property, given languages, like Bulgarian and other Slavic and Balkan languages, display an intriguing blocking of Negative Concord in yes-no questions (Dimitrova 2020a) which prevents the co-occurrence of the negation marker and n-words (Laka 1990). Rather, the negation marker is only compatible with positive indefinites underlying the speaker’s bias towards the positive value of the proposition (Ladd 1981). Considering the data from Bulgarian and building on some intriguing patterns between negative yes-no questions and given types of subjunctive main and embedded clauses (Giannakidou 2016; Dimitrova 2020b), we propose that the negation marker is not expletive but rather contributes to the expression of the speaker’s evaluations and kind of attitude, displaying a relation to the domain of nonveridicality (Giannakidou 1998; Yoon 2011).
Criteria for Oscillation of Impulsive Differential Equations of First Order with Deviating Argument
Margarita Boneva Dimitrova KYUNGPOOK UNIVERSITY 2000 Kyungpook mathematical journal Vol.40 No.1
Suffcient conditions are found for oscillation of all solutions of impulsive differential equations class of first order with fixed moments of impulse effect and deviating argument.
Gelechiidae (Lepidoptera) from Mt. Changbai-Shan in China II.
Margarita Ponomarenko,박규택,배양섭 한국응용곤충학회 2006 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.9 No.2
As the second contribution for the gelechiid-fauna of the Mt. Changbai-shan, additional 23 species of Gelechiidae are recognized. Of them, 16 species are reported for the first time from China and seven species are newly known from the NE China. For each species, an abbreviated reference to the original description, synonymies, label data, world distribution, and some notes, if it is needed, are provided. Photographs of the male or female genitalia of the 19 species, which have not been known in the Korean peninsula, are also provided.
Hidden and exposed faces of power in Buenos Aires
Margarita Gutman 서울시립대학교 도시과학연구원 2015 도시과학국제저널 Vol.19 No.1
This article presents the expressions of two opposite types of power in the city of Buenos Aires, separated from each other by some 30 years (1976–2010). They are opposites in the way they manifest themselves: one, hidden, subterranean, sinister and silent; the other, extroverted and multitudinous, filling streets and public squares. Their nature, agents and goals are different, but the physical urban sphere in which power is exercised, and the social body on which the latter is imposed, is the same: the capital city and its population, and, by extension, the country as a whole.
Wheel Angular Velocity Stabilization using Rough Encoder Data
Margarita Sotnikova,Evgeny Veremey,Natalia Zhabko 제어로봇시스템학회 2014 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2014 No.10
The paper is devoted to the problem of wheel angular velocity stabilization using encoder data. The differential drive robot with four wheels is used as a mobile robot. The left wheels and right wheels are controlled separately. This allows robot to move forward or backward if we apply equal control signal for both sides’ wheels, or to turn left or right if the control for left and right wheels is different. It is well-known that for differential drive robots the robot wheels angular velocity is slightly different even if the same control input is applied for left and right wheels. This lead to the arc trajectories of the robot instead of straight lines. To overcome this problem it’s necessary to use some internal low-level controller for wheels angular velocity stabilization. In order to stabilize angular velocity we need estimation of its current value, which can be obtained using encoder data. The algorithm for angular velocity estimation and stabilization using rough encoder data is proposed. The simulation study and practical real-time implementation for a particular differential drive robot are presented using Matlab and Arduino environment.
Margarita M. Gutierrez,Rungpetch Sakulbumrungsil 대한고혈압학회 2022 Clinical Hypertension Vol.28 No.1
Diseases of the heart and vascular system are the leading cause of mortality in the Philippines. Hypertension, the most important modifiable risk factor, has a prevalence rate of 28% and a control rate of 20%. Despite the proven efficacy of pharmacologic treatment, medication adherence is reported to be as low as 66%. While there are publications that reported factors that affect adherence in Filipinos, there are no existing research that evaluated them systematically. This review is conducted to present and synthesize findings of published literatures.Databases—PubMed, Scopus, Wiley Online library, Science Direct, JSTOR, Web of Science, SAGE journals, and Cochrane—were used to search for articles published from 2000 to 2020 that studied medication adherence in adult Filipino hypertensive population. Out of the initial 1514 articles, 15 articles met the criteria and were included in the analysis. The evidence from the included studies was summarized and discussed in a narrative review using the World Health Organization framework for adherence to long-term therapies as the framework. The factors that were positively associated with adherence were health care system-related factors: good patient-health provider relationship, accessibility of health services, use of specialty clinics and programs for hypertension, and health insurance. The factors found to be negatively associated with adherence are (1) social economic factors: younger age, single civil status, low educational attainment, and unemployment; (2) patient-related factors: low in health literacy and awareness, knowledge on hypertension, attitude towards hypertension, self-efficacy, and social support; (3) therapy-related factors: inconsistent drug regimen schedule, use of Thiazide and complementary and alternative medicines; (4) condition-related factors: low illness perception, and absence of comorbidities.Findings should be interpreted with caution because of methodological limitations. Despite this, given that health systems related factors are modifiable, they can be the focus of interventions and future researches to increase medication adherence. Clinicians may also want to screen their Filipino hypertensive patients for factors that are associated to low adherence in order to provide a tailored advice. Longitudinal research studies with heterogeneous samples of hypertensive Filipinos are imperative so that targeted interventions can be developed for the population.
