      • Building Missionlogical Bridges in Japan

( Marcelo Reis Soares ),( Marcelo Eduardo Da Costa Dias ) 삼육대학교 선교와사회문제연구소 2018 Asia-Africa Journal of Mission and Ministry(AAMM) Vol.18 No.-

Although the first Japanese contact with Christianity happened in the 8th century, this country still figures as one of the biggest missiological challenges. In 2018 the Seventh-day Adventist Church has elected Japan as one of its primary missionary contexts. Based on the understanding about the importance of critical contextualization for mission, this study intends to suggest elements to build missiological bridges between Christianity and Shintoism, the Japanese cultural religion. Shintoism, a syncretistic religion, has shaped the Japanese culture and worldview. The aim is to study the values of the Japanese culture connected with Shintoism and develop channels, so Christians can reveal the gospel in a contextual way. Cultural Anthropology provides tools that are especially relevant to develop the process of critical contextualization.

      • Dimensions of Smart Tourism and Its Levels: An Integrative Literature Review

Otowicz, Marcelo Henrique,Macedo, Marcelo,Biz, Alexandre Augusto Smart Tourism Research Center 2022 Journal of smart tourism Vol.2 No.1

Smart tourism is seen as a revolution in the tourism industry, involving innovative and transformative theoretical-practical approaches for the sector. As a result of its application in the tourist context, benefits can be seen such as more sustainable practices, greater mobility and better accessibility in destinations, evolution of processes and experiences of tourists. Much of this is achieved through the support of technological solutions. However, despite the immense expectations, and the many researches carried out on it, a literature summary regarding the dimensions that can be observed in each application of this smart tourism has not yet been proposed. Therefore, supported by the PRISMA recommendation, this research proposed to carry out an integrative review of the literature on smart tourism (in its different levels of application, such as the city, the destination and the smart tourism region), with the objective of mapping the dimensions that underlie it. Thus, from an initial scope of 833 intellectual productions obtained, inputs were found for the dimensions in 363 of them after a thorough analysis. The compilation of data obtained from these productions supported the proposition of 14 operational dimensions of smart tourism, namely: collaboration, technology, sustainability, experience, accessibility, knowledge management, innovation management, human capital, marketing, customized services, transparency, safety, governance and mobility. With this set of dimensions, it is envisaged that the implementation of smart tourism projects can present more comprehensive and assertive results. In addition, shortcomings and opportunities for new research that support the evolution of the theory and practice of smart tourism are highlighted.

Light-emitting diode assessment of dentinal defects: the role of presumed extraction forces

        Marcelo Santos Coelho,Steven J. Card,Peter Z. Tawil 대한치과보존학회 2017 Restorative Dentistry & Endodontics Vol.42 No.3

Objectives: The evaluation of iatrogenic dentinal defects in extracted teeth may be influenced by extraction forces and prolonged dry times. The purpose of this study was to compare the presence of dentinal defects in freshly extracted, periodontally compromised teeth with those in a group of teeth with uncontrolled extraction forces and storage time. Materials and Methods: The experimental group consisted of eighteen roots obtained from teeth extracted due to periodontal reasons with class II or III mobility. They were kept in saline and sectioned within 1 hour following extraction. The control group consisted of matched root types obtained from an anonymous tooth collection, consistent with previous dentinal defect studies. The slices were obtained at 3, 6, and 9 mm from the apex. The imaging process exposed all specimens to no more than 60 seconds of dry time. The × 12.8 magnification was used for the 9 mm slices and × 19.2 magnification for the 3 mm and 6 mm slices under light-emitting diode (LED) transillumination. The root canal spaces and periodontal tissues were masked to minimize extraneous factors that might influence the evaluators. Chi-square test was used for statistical analysis. Results: Dentinal defects were detected in 17% of the experimental group teeth, compared to 61% of control teeth (p = 0.015). Conclusions: LED transillumination assessment of freshly extracted roots with class II or III mobility showed smaller number of dentinal defects than roots with uncontrolled storage time and extraction forces. The use of freshly extracted roots with mobility should be considered for future dental defect assessment studies.

Use of Magnetic Neurostimulator Appliance in Temporomandibular Disorder

Marcelo Rossiti Florian,Vera Lucia Rasera Zotelli,Maria da Luz Rosario de Sousa,Larissa Angelica Bachir Polloni 사단법인약침학회 2017 Journal of Acupuncture & Meridian Studies Vol.10 No.2

Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) is ranked the second leading cause of orofacial pain after toothache, and there is no effective standard treatment for all cases. Therefore, much research has been conducted in the therapeutic areas of TMD, such as acupuncture and electrotherapy, for this purpose. The aim of this research was to evaluate application of the neuromagnetic stimulator device Haihua model CD-9, used within the precepts of acupuncture in treating TMD-related pain symptoms and limited mouth opening. Analysis and discussion of this study were based on pain intensity index and range of mouthopening evaluation before and after each session. Nine patients diagnosed with muscle TMD, referred by the surgery sector of Center Dental Specialties (CEO e I) in Piracicaba- Sa˜o Paulo participated in this research. Considering the simplicity of the technique and good results obtained, use of this device is suggested as an additional therapeutic tool for relief of TMD symptoms.

Cationic gemini compounds with antifungal activity and wood preservation potentiality

Marcelo César Murguía,Laura Marcela Machuca,Maria Emilia Fernandez 한국공업화학회 2019 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.72 No.-

Three gemini compounds were synthesized and characterized in the search of an alternative eco-friendlywood preservative. Synthesis was carried out from N,N-dimethylamines and 2-O-acetyl-1,3-dichloropropane as linker molecule. All the synthesized molecules were adequately purified andcharacterized by TLC, GC, FT-IR and NMR. Their tensioactive properties were determined. All threeefficiently lowered the surface tension in aqueous solutions with critical micelle concentrations rangingfrom 0.53 to 1.34 mM. Their antifungal activities were evaluated from a broth dilution test against fouryeasts and twofilamentous fungi and were compared to commercially available references: Fluconazoleand TCMTB (2-thiocyanomethylthiobenzothiazole). All gemini compounds displayed good antifungalactivity; particularly, the gemini derived from N,N-dimethyldodecylamine, with even better performancethan Fluconazole against Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Aspergillus niger and Alternaria sp., and than TCMTBagainst the last one. The environmental impact of the gemini compound that showed the highestantifungal activity was analyzed through ecotoxicity tests, using Chlorella vulgaris and Daphnia magna asmodel organisms. It was several orders of magnitude less toxic than TCMTB. Finally, wood preservationefficacy studies were carried out on pine (Pinus ponderosa) samples. Results demonstrated accomplishedresistance against brown rot fungi, comparable to a widespread commercial hydrosoluble preservative.

Price Controls in a Simple Competitive Monetary Model of a Small Open Economy

( Marcelo Bianconi ),( Kar Yiu Wong ) 세종대학교 경제통합연구소 1996 Journal of Economic Integration Vol.11 No.1

We construct a simple monetary general equilibrium model of a small open economy to examine the effects of three price intervention policies. We find that, under fixed exchange rates, a small intervention on the producer`s price of the domestically produced non-traded good or a small revaluation of the exchange rate improves current welfare but deteriorates the trade balance. We apply the theory of economic policy to show that, if the government can impose more than one policy instrument, it is possible to improve national welfare without affecting the trade balance.

100-Hz Electroacupuncture but not 2-Hz Electroacupuncture is Preemptive Against Postincision Pain in Rats

Marcelo Lourenço Silva,Josie Resende Torres Silva,Wiliam Alves Prado 사단법인약침학회 2016 Journal of Acupuncture & Meridian Studies Vol.9 No.4

Preemptive analgesia involves introducing an analgesic before noxious stimulation. Electroacupuncture (EA) activates descending mechanisms that modulate nociceptive inputs into the spinal dorsal horn. This study evaluated whether preoperative EA is more effective than postoperative EA in reducing incision pain in rats. The nociceptive threshold to mechanical stimulation was utilized to examine the effects of an intraperitoneal injection of saline (0.1 mL/kg) or naloxone (1 mg/kg) on antinociception induced by a 20-minute period of 2-Hz or 100-Hz EA applied to the Zusanli (ST36) and Sanyinjiao (SP6) acupoints before surgical incision, or 10 minutes after or 100 minutes after surgical incision of the hind paw. The extent of mechanical hyperalgesia after the incision was significantly attenuated by the application of 100-Hz EA preoperatively, but not by its application at 10 minutes or 100 minutes postoperatively. By contrast, 2-Hz EA was effective against postoperative hyperalgesia when applied 10 minutes or 100 minutes after surgery but not when it was applied preoperatively. Only the effect of 2-Hz EA applied 10 minutes after surgery was sensitive to naloxone. The present study showed for the first time that 100-Hz EA, but not 2-Hz EA, exerts a nonopioidergic preemptive effect against postincision pain in rats.

A High Quality Solution Constructive Heuristic for No-Wait Flow Shop Scheduling Problem

Marcelo Seido Nagano,Hugo Hissashi Miyata 대한산업공학회 2016 Industrial Engineeering & Management Systems Vol.15 No.3

This paper deals with the no-wait flow shop scheduling problem in order to minimize the total time to complete the schedule or makespan. It is introduced a constructive heuristic which builds the production schedule from job partial sequences by using an appropriate mechanism of insertion. An extensive computational experiment has been performed to evaluate the performance of proposed heuristic. Experimental results have clearly shown that the presented heuristic provides better solutions than those from the best heuristics existing.
