The corrosion inhibition properties of novel cationic surfactant on carbon steel in 7 M H3PO4 solutionhave been determined by weight loss, Tafel polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS) methods. The results revealed that the synthesized cationic surfactant is a good corrosion inhibitor. The inhibition efficiency increases with increasing the inhibitor concentration but decreases with thetemperature increasing. The adsorption of inhibitor was found to obey the Langmuir adsorptionisotherm. Potentiodynamic polarization studies showed that the inhibitor acts as a mixed-type inhibitor. EIS results were analyzed to model inhibition process through appropriate equivalent circuit model.

Since the first jack-up was built, jackups have become the most popular type of mobile offshore drilling unit (MODU) for offshore exploration and development purposes in shallow water. The most pivotal component of the jack-up unit is the leg, which can directly affect the global performance of the unit. In this paper, an investigation into extending the length of the jack up leg is carried out in order to study the enhancement of the rig capability to drill in deeper water approaching the range of the Semisubmersible Drilling Unit (SSDU) (300-1000ft). A study of the performance of a deep-water jack-up unit is performed with different leg lengths. Typical leg scantling dimensions and identical external loads are assigned, and then a detailed Finite Element Analysis (FEA) model is created in order to simulate the jack-up leg unit’s structural behavior. A Multi-point Constraint (MPC) element together with the spring element is used to deal with the boundary conditions. Finally, a comparative analysis for five leg lengths is carried out to illustrate their performance, including the ultimate static strength, and weight.

Objectives: In Egypt, the National Cancer Registry Program integrates hospital-based data from multiple Egyptian governorates to obtain representative rates. Unfortunately, Dakahlia (one of the largest Egyptian governorates) was not integrated in the National Cancer Registry Program. This research aimed to acquire malignancy rates from the Oncology Center of Mansoura University, which is one of the two oncology centers present in Dakalia Governorate in Egypt. Methods: Electronic records of patients who attended the Oncology Center of Mansoura University during 2016 were accessed with permission. Analysis was performed to extract diagnostic categories (age, gender, and geographic distribution of cases). Results: Most commonly diagnosed malignancies were breast cancer which represented about 10% of cases in the Oncology Center of Mansoura University during 2016. This was followed by leukemia (3.80%), lymphoma (3.59%), and liver cancer (3.44%). Diagnoses encountered included benign and malignant tumors as well as non-tumor diagnoses. The Mansoura district had the highest proportionate rate of breast cancer cases. Females in the age group ≥ 35 < 60 years had the highest incidence of malignancy cases across all diagnoses. Conclusion: The burden of breast cancer in Mansoura district is high. Risk factors need further evaluation with a recommendation to perform an environmental risk assessment.

In the present study newly developed potentiometric sensors for determination of zinc(II) are presented. The proposed potentiometric method was based on the fabrication of modified carbon paste (MCPE; electrode X) and modified gold nanoparticles-carbon paste (GNPs-CPE; electrode IX) sensors. A mercapto compound of 1,4-bis(5-mercaptopentyloxy)-benzene (BMPB) alone or self-assembled on gold nanoparticles was used as modifier to construct electrode (X) and electrode (IX) sensors, respectively. The prepared electrodes exhibit Nernstian slope of 29.93 ± 0.4 and 26.0 ± 1.02 mV decade-1 towards Zn(II) ion over a wide concentration range of 6.8 × 10-10 to 2.9 × 10-2 and 1.0 × 10-7 to 1.0 × 10-2 mol L-1 for electrode (IX) and electrode (X) sensors, respectively. The limit of detection of the electrode (IX) and electrode (X) sensors was found to be 6.8 × 10-10 and 1.0 × 10-7 mol L-1, respectively. The potentiometric response of the electrode (IX) and electrode (X) based on GNPs-BMPB and BMPB are independent of pH of test solution in the pH range of 2.5–8.1 and 3–7 with a response time of 6 and 8 s for electrode (IX) and electrode (X) sensors, respectively. The proposed sensors showed fairly good discriminating ability towards Zn(II) ion in comparison with many hard and soft metal ions. Finally, the proposed electrodes were successfully used as indicator electrodes in potentiometric titration of zinc ion with sodium tetraphenylborate (NaTPB) and in direct determination of Zn(II) ion in some water samples. The results obtained compared well with those obtained using atomic absorption spectrometry.

Ground tire rubber (GRT) poses a challenging environmental, economical, and disposal problem in the world because of their crosslinked three-dimensional network structure. Waste rubber from end-of-life passenger car tires was successfully devulcanized by using mechanical–chemical process. The coupling of DR with PP in different proportion was investigated by FTIR, X-ray diffraction and SEM techniques. The mechanical and thermal behaviors of the blends composed of devulcanized rubber (DR) and high crystalline polypropylene (PP) in different proportions were studied. Evaluation of the mechanical and thermal properties of the developed blends, unirradiated and gamma irradiated, was carried out using tensile strength (Ts), elongation at break (Eb), hardness, TGA and DSC measurements.
