Modeling of Microwave Assisted Drying of Osmotically Pretreated Red Sweet Pepper (Capsicum annum L.)
Sachidananda Swain,D. V. K. Samuel,Lalit M. Bal,Abhijit Kar,G. P. Sahoo 한국식품과학회 2012 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.21 No.4
Drying kinetics modeling and effective moisture diffusivity (Deff) of osmotically dehydrated pretreated red sweet pepper (Capsicum annum L.) during microwave assisted convective drying at power levels of 0.35, 0.70,1.05, and 1.4 W/g, air temperature of 30, 45, and 60oC, and constant air velocity of 1.5 m/s were investigated. The drying data were applied to 11 different semi-empirical mathematical models to characterize the drying kinetics and Page model provided a good agreement between experimental and predicted moisture ratio values with higher coefficient of determination (R2) and lower root mean square error (RSME) and residual sum of square (RSS). Deff decreased from 1.859×10−7 to 3.55×10−8 m2/s which is 102 to 103 times more than the previous investigations for food materials. Similarly, the activation energy decreased from 8.943 to 5.228 with decrease of drying temperature from 60 to 30oC which is due to the effect of pretreatment (osmotic dehydration). So, pretreatment can be used as criteria for faster drying thereby maintaining final product quality.

The role of the radiation pressure of an intense laser beam in the formation of proton and carbon spectra from thin foils is discussed. The data presented suggests that, in competition with the Target Normal Sheath Acceleration mechanism, the onset of the Light Sail (LS) region of Radiation Pressure Acceleration can be obtained for suitably thin targets at currently available laser intensities,. The spectral features and their scaling with the laser and target parameters are consistent with the scenario of Light Sail (LS) acceleration.

Twenty-one lowland rice genotypes were evaluated for their stability parameters with respect to grain yield in a multi locational trial at five different sites of Eastern India viz. CRRI, Cuttack (Orissa); OUAT, Bhubaneswar (Orissa); CRS, Masodha (UP); RAU, Pusa (Bihar) and RARS, North Lakhimpur (Assam). Pooled analysis of variance reflects existence of genotype x environment interactions and contribution of both linear and nonlinear components to genotype (G) x environment (E) interactions. Through stability parameter analysis it was found that Rayda ~textrmB3 , CR 778-95 and CR 661-236 were suitable for over all environments where as Sabita, OR 1334-16 and OR 1358-RGA-4 were suitable for rich environments. PSR 1209-2-3-2, CR 780-1937, Ambika, OR 877-ST-4-2 and CR 662-2211 were identified for poor environments.

Nanocrystalline thin films of titanium dioxide have been fabricated on glass and silica substrates from partially hydrolyzed precursor solution. These films were subjected to heat treatment for 1h at temperatures 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800 and 900oC and characterized by XRD, SEM, XPS and optical techniques. As deposited films are found to be amorphous and also contain hydroxyl and organic functional groups. Films heat treated above 100oC do not contain hydroxyl and organic functional groups. Microcrystalline behavior is observed in the films heat treated above 300oC. Crystallite size increases from ∼5 to 50nm as sintering temperature is increased from 300 to 700oC. Formation of anatase phase with c-axis length 7.03A is observed in the films annealed up to 700oC. These films peel off from the substrate beyond 700oC annealing temperature. Density as well as refractive index of the films increases with increase in annealing temperature up to 700oC. Refractive index is found to show Cauchys behavior. Transmission better than 70% is observed in the visible range. There is a strong absorption around 370nm, which is attributed to band gap absorption of the material.

The GENICA Network,kConFab Investigators,Norwegian Breast Cancer Study,Glubb, Dylan M.,Maranian, Mel J.,Michailidou, K.,Pooley, Karen A.,Meyer, Kerstin B.,Kar, S.,Carlebur, S.,O'Reilly, M.,Betts, Josh University of Chicago Press [etc.] 2015 American journal of human genetics Vol.96 No.1
Genome-wide association studies (GWASs) have revealed SNP rs889312 on 5q11.2 to be associated with breast cancer risk in women of European ancestry. In an attempt to identify the biologically relevant variants, we analyzed 909 genetic variants across 5q11.2 in 103,991 breast cancer individuals and control individuals from 52 studies in the Breast Cancer Association Consortium. Multiple logistic regression analyses identified three independent risk signals: the strongest associations were with 15 correlated variants (iCHAV1), where the minor allele of the best candidate, rs62355902, associated with significantly increased risks of both estrogen-receptor-positive (ER+: odds ratio [OR] = 1.24, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.21-1.27, ptrend = 5.7 x 10-44) and estrogen-receptor-negative (ER-: OR = 1.10, 95% CI = 1.05-1.15, ptrend = 3.0 x 10-4) tumors. After adjustment for rs62355902, we found evidence of association of a further 173 variants (iCHAV2) containing three subsets with a range of effects (the strongest was rs113317823 [pcond = 1.61 x 10-5]) and five variants composing iCHAV3 (lead rs11949391; ER+: OR = 0.90, 95% CI = 0.87-0.93, pcond = 1.4 x 10-4). Twenty-six percent of the prioritized candidate variants coincided with four putative regulatory elements that interact with the MAP3K1 promoter through chromatin looping and affect MAP3K1 promoter activity. Functional analysis indicated that the cancer risk alleles of four candidates (rs74345699 and rs62355900 [iCHAV1], rs16886397 [iCHAV2a], and rs17432750 [iCHAV3]) increased MAP3K1 transcriptional activity. Chromatin immunoprecipitation analysis revealed diminished GATA3 binding to the minor (cancer-protective) allele of rs17432750, indicating a mechanism for its action. We propose that the cancer risk alleles act to increase MAP3K1 expression in vivo and might promote breast cancer cell survival.
INVENTORY OF DIFFERENTIAL ITEMS SELLING AT TWO SHOPS UNDER SINGLE MANAGEMENT
Kar, S.,Bhunia, A.K.,Maiti, M. 한국전산응용수학회 2003 Journal of applied mathematics & informatics Vol.11 No.1
Inventory of differential (both good And defective) items purchased in a lot for two shops under a single management is considered here. In the primary shop, the lot is received and separated, only good units are sold and shortages are allowed which are backlogged from the good units specially purchased at the beginning of the next cycle. The separated defective units are continuously transferred and sold at a reduced price from the secondary shop. This inventory model is formulated and illustrated numerically for three scenarios depending upon the time periods of the shops. Inventory, deterioration, two shops.
