Development of resistance in honeybee mites especially Varroa mites is a major impediment in evolving chemical control. Several management strategies such as cultural, biological, chemical, genetic or hygienic behaviour are a desirable trait in honeybees (A. mellifera). Use of essential oils proved to be the effective management strategy for the management of mites. Results revealed that Eucalyptus oil, Cinnamon oil, Menthol oil were highly effective in suppressing the percentage infestation of mites as compared to control. Among all the treatments, cinnamon oil was most effective followed by Eucalyptus oil and Menthol oil. 2nd application of different treatments further suppressed the mite infestation resulting from an initial precount of 37.51 to 17.38 and from 28.13 to 13.42 percent. Similarly in Eucalyptus oil percentage infestation declined from 44.55 to 28.28 and 36.32 to 19.14 percent respectively. However the decline in mite infestation in case of menthol was 37.67 to 22.69 percent in first application and from 30.16 to 19.33 in second applications. The results clearly revealed that feeding of essential oils besides imparting contact action to the mites, also imparts some resistance in honeybees against mites there by suppressing their population build up. The efficacy of different oils used was in the order as given below: Cinnamon Oil>Eucalyptus Oil>Menthol Oil>Control.

The critical element for sustainable growth in the construction industry is the development of alternative cements. A new technological process called geopolymerization provides an innovative solution, and the presence of aluminum and silicon oxides in fly ash has encouraged its use as a source material. Many previous investigations have involved curing the binder in a heated environment. To reduce energy consumption during the synthesis of geopolymers, the present study investigated the properties of ambient cured geopolymer mortar at early ages. An experimental program was executed to establish a relationship between the activator composition and the properties of geopolymer mortar in fresh and hardened states. Concentrations of sodium hydroxide and sodium silicate were ascertained that are advantageous for constructability and mechanical behavior. Scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction techniques were also used to characterize the material. Test results indicate that there is potential for the concrete industry to use fly ash based geopolymer as an alternative to portland cement.

Assessment of perceptions of the community, the determinants and development of their behavior regarding common malignancies, helps in establishing evidence-based activities for prevention and early diagnosis of cancer. However information on this important aspect is lacking in our country. Qualitative methods were here used to obtain information through in depth interviews and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with all categories of identified stakeholders. Most were unaware of the activities of the cancer control program. Even the providers were not fully conversant. All respondents mentioned lack of diagnostic and treatment facilities in government, primary and secondary level facilities. Perceptions of different categories of stakeholders regarding why many community members did not attend screening camps and other services reflect the determinants of community behavior, acting independently as well as in combination. The cancer control program was thought to be restricted only to some private facilities and overcrowded government tertiary care facilities where the visits were time consuming. Almost all the facilities were considered curative oriented. Issues of supervision, monitoring and feedback were inadequately addressed by providers who were inadequately trained in many program activities. The program lacked effective planning, coordination and appropriate implementation at the grass roots level in Delhi. Social mobilization was grossly inadequate, as most of the community members were unaware of the existence of the program. Misconceptions about the risk factors, signs and symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment were common amongst community members as well as many of the providers. Thus the national cancer control program in our country needs further community participation and social mobilization. Accessibility, availability, acceptability and affordability of various preventive, curative and rehabilitative activities, as well as intersectoral coordination, training, supervision and monitoring of program activities, all need to be addressed to ensure the success of this important public health program.
Ewing’s Sarcoma of the Sacroiliac Joint Presenting as Tubercular Sacroiliitis: A Diagnostic Dilemma

We report a case of Ewing’s sarcoma of the sacroiliac joint in a 21-year-old male mimicking tubercular sacroiliitis, a rare entity not reported in literature. He presented with pain in the lower back radiating to the right lower limb along with constitutional symptoms of 3 months duration. On examination, the right sacroiliac joint was tender. The laboratory investigations showed anaemia, leukocytosis and raised erythrocyte sedimentation rate. On X-ray, features of right sacroiliitis were seen. This was further investigated with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which showed features consistent with tubercular sacroiliitis. Patient was then started on antitubercular treatment, but the improvement was not consistent. So, a contrast MRI was done, which indicated features of primary sarcoma. It was then further confirmed by a computed tomography-guided biopsy, which showed features consistent with Ewing’s sarcoma of the sacroiliac joint.

This paper addresses the need for efective curriculum-based measures (CBMs) to assess foundational literacy skills in India. It seeks to answer the questions: What is the reliability and validity of the FABLe app in the Indian context? What is the efcacy of the FABLe app in identifying students who are at-risk for reading difculties? There are currently no tools in place that can be used to screen and monitor early reading skills in elementary grades. We present data from a pilot study on India’s frst digital CBM tool, Fluency Assessment for Benchmarking in Literacy education (FABLe), to screen for and identify students at-risk for reading difculties. This study was conducted in Mumbai, India, and participants included students in Grade 3 attending an English medium private school. It serves three primary goals within the Indian context: (a) to examine reliability and validity data supporting the use of the tool; (b) to compare FABLe scores to teacher judgment; and (c) to identify the correct words per minute and accuracy levels below which students were identifed as being at-risk. These metrics are presented as an initial step towards developing preliminary CBM benchmarks for India.
