Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate oncologic outcomes of total abdominal radical hysterectomy (TARH), total laparoscopic radical hysterectomy (TLRH) and laparoscopic-assisted radical vaginal hysterectomy (LARVH) in early cervical cancer patients (stage IB2-3, tumor size≥2cm), analyzing the risk factors that may affect the clinical results. Methods: A total of 756 patients underwent radical hysterectomy between 2000 and 2019 from three university hospitals (Pusan National University Hospital, Yang-san Pusan National University Hospital, Ulsan University Hospital) were enrolled. Among them, 172 patients with stage IB2-3 were analyzed retrospectively. Results: Seventy-seven patients were treated with TARH, and 95 were managed via minimally invasive surgery (MIS), consisting of 35 with TLRH and 60 with LARVH. TARH group had better disease five-year disease free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) compared with MIS group (86.4% vs. 73.4 for DFS and 91.7 vs. 82.2 for OS), but not statistically significant in both (p=0.058 for DFS and p=0.119 for OS). When TARH and the LARVH group were compared, both five-year DFS and OS were not significant different (86.4 vs 82.2%; p=0.288 for DFS and 91.7 vs 84.4%; p=0.206 for OS). However, when TARH and the TLRH group were compared, TLRH group had significantly worse five-year DFS than TARH (86.4 vs 54.5%; p=0.008), but five-year OS was not significant different (91.7 vs 77.5%; p=0.127). Multivariate analysis showed that LN metastasis and TLRH surgical approaches were an independent prognostic factor for DFS in IB2-3 cervical cancers. Conclusion: Our findings provided the evidence that TLRH surgical approach was associated with worse DFS in IB2-3 cervical cancers but that of LARVH was not. Such results may have important implications of colpotomy method for MIS in cervical cancer.

Objective : Lumbar spine stenosis (LSS) can result in symptomatic compression of the neural elements, requiring surgical treatment if conservative management fails. Minimally invasive surgery has come to be more commonly used for the treatment of LSS. The current study describes outcomes of bilateral microdecompression by unilateral or bilateral laminotomy (BML) for degenerative LSS after a minimum follow-up period of 3 years and investigates factors that result in a poor outcome. Methods : Twenty-one patients who were followed-up for at least 3 years were included in this study. For clinical evaluation, the Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA) scoring system for low back pain was used. The modified grading system of Finneson and Cooper was used for outcome assessment. Radiographic evaluation was also performed for spondylolisthesis, sagittal rotation angle, and disc height. Results : Twenty-one patients (10 men, 11 women) aged 53-82 years ($64.1{\pm}8.9$ years) were followed-up for a minimum of 3 years (36-69 months). During follow-up, two patients underwent reoperation. Average preoperative JOA score and clinical symptoms, except persistent low back pain, improved significantly at the latest follow-up. There were no significant differences in radiological findings preoperatively and postoperatively. Thirteen patients (61.9%) had excellent to fair outcomes. Conclusion : BML resulted in a favorable and persistent outcome for patients with degenerative LSS without radiological instability over a mid-term follow-up period. Persistent low back pain unrelated to postoperative instability adversely affects mid-term outcomes.

A monoterpene lactone, loliolide was successively isolated from brown seaweed, Sargassum ringgoldianum subsp. coreanum using column chromatography and high-performance liquid chromatography. The structure of the isolated compound was determined by comparison of EIMS and NMR spectral data with the previously published data. The antioxidant activities of loliolide were also evaluated by DPPH and $H_2O_2$ radical and intracellular reactive oxygen species scavenging assays, and it showed moderate activities in all antioxidant assays. Furthermore, loliolide was found to exert positive dose-dependent effects in the protective effects against $H_2O_2$-induced cell damage which were determined via MTT, Hoechst staining assays and cell cycle analysis. This is the first study on chemical constituent of this seaweed according to our best knowledge. These results clearly indicated that loliolide isolated from Sargassum ringgoldianum subsp. coreanum can protect the cells against $H_2O_2$-induced cell damage or apoptosis.

The technology can help improve temporal convenience and educational quality by taking advantage of engineering and engineering and automating methods, which are necessary in planning learning activities of an all-round education such as teachers though teaching methods and making a teaching plan.
Red ginseng extract protects against carbon tetrachloride-induced liver fibrosis

Korean red ginseng, the processed root of Panax ginseng Meyer, has been frequently used for various therapeutic purposes in oriental medicine. The present study investigated the possible effect of Korean red ginseng extract (RGE) for the treatment of liver fibrosis in mice injected with carbon tetrachloride ($CCl_4$) for 4 wk. Liver injuries were assessed by blood biochemistry and histopathology in mice treated with $CCl_4$ alone or $CCl_4$+ RGE (30, 100, and 300 mg/kg). Concomitant treatment with RGE and $CCl_4$ (three times/wk for 4 wk) effectively inhibited liver fibrosis as evidenced by decreases in plasma alanine and aspartate aminotransferases, as well as by the percentages of degenerative regions, numbers of degenerative hepatocytes, and collagen accumulation in hepatic parenchyma. Treatment with $CCl_4$ for 4 wk increased mRNA levels of transforming growth factor ${\beta}1$ and plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 in fibrogenic liver, whereas RGE (30, 100, and 300 mg/kg) significantly blocked the induction of fibrogenic genes by $CCl_4$. Similarly, RGE also prevented transforming growth factor ${\beta}1$-mediated induction of fibrogenic genes in human hepatic stellate cell lines. More importantly, RGE markedly reduced the number of ${\alpha}$-smooth muscle actin-positive cells in liver tissue. This study implies that RGE efficaciously protects against the liver fibrosis induced by chronic $CCl_4$ treatment, and may therefore have potential to treat liver disease.
Identification of Chinese cabbage genes up-regulated by prolonged cold by using microarray analysis

Vernalization is induced by prolonged cold and accelerates flowering. To monitor the genome-wide trascriptome change that identifies the genes that are differently up-regulated depending on the duration of cold exposure, we fabricated a Chinese cabbage cDNA microarray and used it to identify genes that are up-regulated by short-term (1-week) and long-term (4-week) cold. The overall expression patterns between 1- and 4-week cold treated seedlings were very similar but some genes in the cell growth/division/DNA synthesis functional category were regulated differently. Prolonged cold specifically up-regulated several heat shock proteins (HSPs), and small HSPs were more significant. Among the up-regulated sHSPs, we chose the small HSP 17.6-Ⅱ and confirmed its up-regulation in response to long-but not short-term cold exposure by Northern analysis. And its constitutive overexpression moderately accelerated flowering.
