        Task-Related Motivational Strategies in EFL Classrooms : A Glimpse into Teachers’ and Students’ Perceptions

        This mixed-method study investigated teacher and student perceptions of the importance of taskrelated motivational strategies (TRMS) in English as a foreign language (EFL) classroom instruction. A 48-item Likert scale questionnaire covering seven domains of TRMS were electronically delivered to teachers (N = 96) at different institutions in a large city in southern Vietnam and their students (N = 220). Concurrently, thirty-four written reflections were obtained from the teachers (N = 17) and the students (N = 17) to shed further light on their perceptions. Examining the participants’ central tendencies showed that they agreed on the motivational value of task nature, task relevance, task materials, task-related feedback, and during-task teacher behavior, but not on task presentation and task level. Item analyses further revealed statistically significant differences in the participants’ perceptions of as much as 23 percent of the TRMS. Recursive content analysis of the journal data corroborated a substantial part of the quantitative results and offered explanations for why each specific difference occurred. These perceptual mismatches provide important pedagogical implications for how teachers can design and implement tasks in the way that is motivating to students whose English learning is entirely confined within classroom walls.

        Synchronization Controller for a 3-RRR Parallel Manipulator

        A 3-RRR parallel manipulator has been well-known as a closed-loop kinematic chain mechanism in which the end-effector generally a moving platform is connected to the base by several independent actuators. Performance of the robot is decided by performances of the component actuators which are independently driven by tracking controllers without acknowledging information from each other. The platform performance is degraded if any actuator could not be driven well. Therefore, this paper aims to develop an advanced synchronization (SYNC) controller for position tracking of a 3-RRR parallel robot using three DC motor-driven actuators. The proposed control scheme consists of three sliding mode controllers (SMC) to drive the actuators and a supervisory controller named PID-neural network controller (PIDNNC) to compensate the synchronization errors due to system nonlinearities, uncertainties and external disturbances. A Lyapunov stability condition is added to the PIDNNC training mechanism to ensure the robust tracking performance of the manipulator. Numerical simulations have been performed under different working conditions to demonstrate the effectiveness of the suggested control approach.

        Passenger satisfaction with flights is an essential factor that affects their loyalty and enables air-carriers to stabilize their market share, enhance sales efficiency in a highly competitive airline marketplace nowadays. This research aims to analyze the factors affecting passenger satisfaction towards short distance flights carried out by Vietnam Airlines. The research findings will lay the foundation for shaping up the business strategies for air carriers, especially for Vietnam Airlines to enhance passenger satisfaction level with their flights.

        Elasticity of Market Demand between Modes of Transport in Vietnam by Price and Income

        This study aims to determine the demand elasticity of passenger and freight transport market between different modes of transport in Vietnam by income, by price and by the price of substitute mode of transport (cross price). Upon consideration of the theoretical basis and inheriting the results of previous studies, this study applies a non-linear model to estimate the elasticity coefficients of demand. The analysis of the data for a 16-year period from 2001 to 2016 in Vietnam shows that as a general rule, the average per capita income is a factor that positively influences the transport market demand of different modes of transport. Freight rates, as a general rule, have an opposite effect on passenger transportation by waterway, freight transportation by road, by waterway and by air. Demand is greatly affected by the cross price in the freight transportation by air. The outcome of the research serves as a basis to propose business implications for executive management to make appropriate policies for each mode of transport and to create harmonization of all modes of transport.

        Copper Tolerance of Novel Rhodotorula sp. Yeast Isolated from Gold Mining Ore in Gia Lai, Vietnam

        In this study, twenty-five yeast strains were isolated from soil samples collected in the goldmining ore in Gia Lai, Vietnam. Among them, one isolate named GL1T could highly tolerateCu2þ up to 10 mM, and the isolates could also grow in a wide range of pH (3–7), and temperature(10–40 �C). Dried biomass of GL1 was able to remove Cu2þ effectively up to 90.49%with a maximal biosorption capacity of 18.1 mg/g at pH 6, temperature 30 �C, and incubationtime 60 min. Sequence analysis of rDNA indicated this strain was closely related toRhodotorula mucilaginosa but with 1.53 and 3.46% nucleotide differences in the D1/D2domain of the 28S rRNA gene and the ITS1-5.8S rRNA gene-ITS2 region sequence, respectively. Based on phylogenetic tree analysis and the biochemical characteristics, the strainappears to be a novel Rhodotorula species, and the name Rhodotorula aurum sp. nov. is proposed. This study provides us with more information about heavy metal-tolerant yeasts andit may produce a new tool for environmental control and metal recovery operations.
