Background: Activities and participation play important roles in the maintenance of healthy aging. The maintenance of these factors optimizes social life to increase the quality of life with aging. However, there is a lack of questionnaires in Turkish to evaluate activity and participation among older people. This study translated and cross-culturally adapted the Oxford Participation and Activities Questionnaire (Ox-PAQ) into Turkish and investigated its psychometric properties in the older adult population. Methods: The Turkish version of the Ox-PAQ was produced after a translation and back-translation process. The Ox-PAQ was administered to 230 and 60 individuals for construct validity and reliability analyses, respectively. To assess the test-retest reliability of the Turkish Ox-PAQ, the questionnaire was reapplied 7 days after the first interview. Cronbach’s alpha (α) was used to evaluate the internal consistency. The Ox-PAQ was compared to the Short Form-12 and the Katz Index of Independence in Activities of Daily Living Scale to determine its validity. Results: The Turkish Ox-PAQ showed excellent internal consistency (α=0.98) and test-retest reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient=0.98, 0.96, and 0.97 for the subscales of routine activity level, social engagement, and emotional well-being, respectively). In the validity analysis, factor analysis demonstrated a probable structure of the three factors that together explained 66.35% of the total variance. The Turkish Ox-PAQ was correlated with the other comparison measures used in this study. Conclusion: The Turkish Ox-PAQ is a reliable and valid questionnaire to evaluate the participation and activity levels of older people (Clinical Trial Number: NCT04368754).
EXISTENCE OF FIXED POINTS OF SET-VALUED MAPPINGS IN b-METRIC SPACES
Afshari, Hojjat,Aydi, Hassen,Karapinar, Erdal The Youngnam Mathematical Society 2016 East Asian mathematical journal Vol.32 No.3
In this paper, we introduce the notion of generalized ${\alpha}-{\psi}$-Geraghty multivalued mappings and investigate the existence of a xed point of such multivalued mappings. We present a concrete example and an application on integral equations illustrating the obtained results.
SIMULATION FUNCTIONS OVER M-METRIC SPACES
Asadi, Mehdi,Azhini, Mahdi,Karapinar, Erdal,Monfared, Hossein The Youngnam Mathematical Society 2017 East Asian mathematical journal Vol.33 No.5
In this paper, existence of fixed point of certain operators imbedded in simulation function has been investigated in context of a complete M-metric spaces.
Severe lupin bean intoxication: an anticholinergic toxidrome
Pinar Yazici Ozkaya,Hatice Feray Ari,Ese Eda Turanli,Gulizar Koc,Bulent Karapinar 대한소아응급의학회 2021 대한소아응급의학회지 Vol.8 No.2
Lupin beans are the yellow legume seeds of the genus Lupinus. They are traditionally eaten as a pickled snack in many countries. Bitter lupin beans have a high amount of alkaloids called lupanine. Because the alkaloid is responsible for anticholinergic toxidrome, the beans should pass a debittering process before consumption. Only few pediatric cases of lupin bean intoxication were reported. We present a 12-year-old boy who visited the emergency department for the unexpected onset of anticholinergic toxidrome.

Background: Different regional anesthesia (RA) techniques have been used for laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC), but there is no consensus on their comparative effectiveness. Our objective was to evaluate the effect of RA techniques on patients undergoing LC using a network meta-analysis approach. Methods: We conducted a systematic review and network meta-analysis. We searched PubMed, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), Scopus, and Web of Science (Science and Social Science Citation Index) using the following PICOS criteria: (P) adult patients undergoing LC; (I) any RA single-shot technique with injection of local anesthetics; (C) placebo or no intervention; (O) postoperative opioid consumption expressed as morphine milligram equivalents (MME), rest pain at 12 h and 24 h post-operation, postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV), length of stay; and (S) randomized controlled trials. Results: A total of 84 studies were included. With the exception of the rectus sheath block (P = 0.301), the RA techniques were superior to placebo at reducing opioid consumption. Regarding postoperative pain, the transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block (−1.80 on an 11-point pain scale) and erector spinae plane (ESP) block (−1.33 on an 11-point pain scale) were the most effective at 12 and 24 h. The TAP block was also associated with the greatest reduction in PONV.Conclusions: RA techniques are effective at reducing intraoperative opioid use, postoperative pain, and PONV in patients undergoing LC. Patients benefit the most from the bilateral paravertebral, ESP, quadratus lumborum, and TAP blocks.
