Based on our previous studies on antiplatelet hydrazone derivatives, some new indole-based derivatives were designed and synthesized as potential antiplatelet agents. Synthesis of the derivatives was accomplished by substitution at the N – 1 position of indole-3-carboxaldehyde and reacting the resulting intermediates with either phenylhydrazine of benzoylhydrazide. The structure of the synthesized compounds was confirmed by different spectral methods such as mass spectrometry,1H-NMR, and IR spectroscopy. The derivatives were tested for their ability to inhibit human platelet aggregation, where arachidonic acid (AA), adenosine diphosphate ADP, and collagen were used as aggregation inducers. Compounds (2a–2f) showed considerable activity against AA-induced platelet aggregation. Among them, compounds 2a, 2b, and 2f were the most potent derivatives with IC50 values comparable to that of aspirin as standard drug. Analysis of structure–activity relationship shows that with increased bulk of the substituents at indole N – 1, the antiplatelet activity is reduced, thus suggesting that steric hindrance at this position plays a major role in the activity of the tested compounds.
Optimum design of retaining structures under seismic loading using adaptive sperm swarm optimization

The optimum design of reinforced concrete cantilever retaining walls subjected to seismic loads is an extremely important challenge in structural and geotechnical engineering, especially in seismic zones. This study proposes an adaptive sperm swarm optimization algorithm (ASSO) for economic design of retaining structure under static and seismic loading. The proposed ASSO algorithm utilizes a time-varying velocity damping factor to provide a fine balance between the explorative and exploitative behavior of the original method. In addition, the new method considers a reasonable velocity limitation to avoid the divergence of the sperm movement. The proposed algorithm is benchmarked with a set of test functions and the results are compared with the standard sperm swarm optimization (SSO) and some other robust metaheuristic from the literature. For seismic optimization of retaining structures, Mononobe-Okabe method is employed for dynamic loading conditions and total construction cost of the structure is considered as the single objective function. The optimization constraints include both geotechnical and structural restrictions and the design variables are the geometrical dimensions of the wall and the amount of steel reinforcement. Finally, optimization of two benchmark retaining structures under static and seismic loads using the ASSO algorithm is presented. According to the numerical results, the ASSO may provide better optimal solutions, and the designs obtained by ASSO have a lower cost by up to 20% compared with some other methods from the literature.

The yolk-shell Fe3O4-polyaniline for decoration of Pd-Ni nanoparticles (yolk-shell Fe3O4-PANI/ Pd-Ni) were synthesized and used as a new electrocatalyst for oxidation of formic acid. The yolkshell Fe3O4-PANI/Pd-Ni catalyst provided superior catalyst performance for formic acid oxidation in H2SO4 aqueous solution. These yolk-shell Fe3O4-PANI/Pd-Ni catalysts were found to be more resistant to deactivation in the oxidation of formic acid than yolk-shell Fe3O4-PANI/Pd and Pd/C and to consistently show better long-term performances. The enhanced catalytic performance may arise from the unique structure and surface properties of the yolk-shell Fe3O4- PANI and bi-functional effect, which process extraordinary promotional effect on Pd catalyst.
Autonomous System Identification and Control Using Deep Neural Network

This paper aims to develop a parametric identification design for stable minimum-phase linear time-invariant (LTI) systems using Deep Learning. The proposed method employs Deep Learning and cosine similarity to identify the system’s type and parameters, which are then passed to a Sliding Mode Controller (SMC) to control the system. The presented approach achieves high performance in the identification and control process, only requiring a few samples of system stimulation response to infer the system’s parameters. The results show our method can identify the type of systems with high accuracy and control them robustly independent of the slight error in system estimation.

In cancer patients, chemo/radio therapy may cause infertility by damaging the spermatogenesis affecting the selfrenewal and differentiation of spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs). In vitro differentiation of stem cells especially mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) into germ cells has recently been proposed as a new strategy for infertility treatment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the proliferation and differentiation of SSCs using their co-culture with Sertoli cells and conditioned medium (CM) from adipose tissue-derived MSCs (AD-MSCs). Testicular tissues were separated from 2-7 days old neonate Wistar Rats and after mechanical and enzymatic digestion, the SSCs and Sertoli cells were isolated and cultured in Dulbecco’s modified eagle medium with 10% fetal bovine serum, 1X antibiotic, basic fibroblast growth factor, and glial cell linederived neurotrophic factor. The cells were treated with the CM from AD-MSCs for 12 days and then the expression level of differentiation-related genes were measured. Also, the expression level of two major spermatogenic markers of DAZL and DDX4 was calculated. Scp3, Dazl, and Prm1 were significantly increased after treatment compared to the control group, whereas no significant difference was observed in Stra8 expression. The immunocytochemistry images showed that DAZL and DDX4 were positive in experimental group comparing with control. Also, western blotting revealed that both DAZL and DDX4 had higher expression in the treated group than the control group, however, no significant difference was observed. In this study, we concluded that the CM obtained from AD-MSCs can be considered as a suitable biological material to induce the differentiation in SSCs.
