Weighting objectives strategy in multicriterion fuzzy mechanical and structural optimization

The weighting strategy has received a great attention and has been widely applied to multicriterion optimization. This gaper examines a global criterion method (GCM) with the weighting objectives strategy in fuzzy structural engineering problems. Fuzziness of those problems are in their design goals, constraints and variables. Most of the constraints are originated from analysis of engineering mechanics. The GCM is verified to be equivalent to fuzzy goal programming via a truss design. Continued and mixed discrete variable spaces are presented and examined using a fuzzy global criterion method (FGCM). In the design process a weighting parameter with fuzzy information is introduced into the design and decision making. We use a uniform machine-tool spindle as an illustrative example in continuous design space. Fuzzy multicriterion optimization in mixed design space is illustrated by the design of mechanical spring stacks. Results show that weighting strategy in FGCM can generate both the best compromise solution and a set of Pareto solutions in fuzzy environment. Weighting technique with fuzziness provides a more relaxed design domain, which increases the satisfying degree of a compromise solution or improves the final design.

The method of pairwise comparison inherently contains information of ambiguity, fuzziness and conflict in design goals for a multiobjective structural design. This paper applies the principle of paired comparison so that the vaguely formulated problem can be modified and a set of numerically acceptable weight would reflect the relatively important degree of multiple objectives. This paper also presents a fuzzy global criterion method ($FGCM_{\lambda}$) included fuzzy constraints that coupled with the objective weighting rank obtained from the modified pairwise comparisons for fuzzy multiobjective optimization problems. Descriptions in sequence of this combined method and problem solving experiences are given in the current article. Multiobjective design examples of truss and mechanical spring structures illustrate this optimization process containing the revising judgement techniques.

Self-assembled CdTe/ZnSe Stranski-Krastanow quantum-dot (QD) structures, which have a CdSe-like precursor-layer (PCL) between CdTe quantum dots and ZnSe matrix, were grown by molecular beam epitaxy. The carrier dynamics of the structures was studied by photoluminescence (PL) and time-resolved photoluminescence (TRPL) measurements. The temperature-dependent PL spectra revealed that there is a carrier transformation from small dots to larger dots via the precursor layer. Temperature-dependent PL measurements verify the existence of the QD excited excitonic state in 5.0 mono-layer (ML) coverage. In 0.6 ML coverage, the TRPL spectra exhibited a double-exponential decay process, as the detection energy at PCL emission energy. The faster decay time is corresponded to the carrier lifetime in PCL, the slower decay time exhibits the carrier in small QD. However, in 5.0 ML coverage, a faster and slower decay time represents the carrier lifetime in QD excited state for larger QD and the carrier lifetime in QD ground state for smaller QD.

We study a radial basis function collocation method (RBFCM) to discretize a coupled nonlinear Schr$\ddot{o}$dinger equation (CNLSE) that governs a two dimensional rotating Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) with an angular momentum rotation term. We exploit a RBFCM-continuation method (RBFCM-CM) to trace the solution curve of the CNLSE. We compare the performance of the RBFCM-CM with the FEM-CM. We observe that the RBFCM-CM is very robust in a coarse grid for resolving the ground state solution with many vortices when the angular momentum rotation is close to the limit. Numerical results demonstrate the efficiency and accuracy of the RBFCM-CM for computing the superfluid density of the ground level of the BEC.
A Personal Tutoring Mechanism Based on the Cloud Environment

With the advent of the age of the Knowledge Economy, the desire for knowledge has been growing gradually. E-learning not only escapes from the limitations of time and space but allows researchers to develop related services via an open and powerful environment (i.e. cloud computing) through the development of information communication techniques and the popularity of portable devices. In this paper, we will introduce the two core mechanisms, asynchronous caching and adaptive delivery that integrate in the cloud environment. The first mechanism takes advantage of background scheduling to allow partial content processing and downloading in parallel. The second pays more attention to personalization service provision in accordance with situations such as location, time, and external information. The system optimizes the pervasive learning environment through the processing of the mechanisms mentioned above in the cloudbased environment.
A grid-based dynamic load balancing approach for data-centric storage in wireless sensor networks

In many data-centric storage techniques, each event corresponds to a hashing location by event type. However, most of them fail to deal with storage memory space due to high percentage of the load is assigned to a relatively small portion of the sensor nodes. Hence, these nodes may fail to deal with the storage of the sensor nodes effectively. To solve the problem, we propose a grid-based dynamic load balancing approach for data-centric storage in sensor networks that relies on two schemes: (1) a cover-up scheme to deal with a problem of a storage node whose memory space is depleted. This scheme can adjust the number of storage nodes dynamically; (2) the multi-threshold levels to achieve load balancing in each grid and all nodes get load balancing. Simulations have shown that our scheme can enhance the quality of data and avoid hotspot of the storage while there are a vast number of the events in a sensor network.

<P>In addition to their critical roles in folliculogenesis and ovarian granulosa cell steroidogenesis, gonadotropins have been implicated as potential risk factors in ovarian epithelial carcinomas, most of which are derived from ovarian surface epithelium (OSE). However, the molecular mechanism underlying the effects of FSH and LH in OSE and its neoplastic counterpart is not well understood. We previously demonstrated that gonadotropins promote the growth of OSE cells by regulating the levels of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) via the activation of ERK1/2 and PI3K pathways in immortalized human OSE (IOSE) cells. In this study, we investigated whether cAMP and its novel binding target, named exchange protein activated by cAMP (Epac), are involved in the gonadotropin-induced EGFR expression in OSE cells. Gonadotropins elevated intracellular cAMP levels in both IOSE and granulosa cells, and this increase was attenuated by SQ22536, an inhibitor of adenylyl cyclase (AC). The activation of the ERK1/2 and Akt pathways as well as the expression of EGFR was stimulated by reagents that elevate intracellular cAMP levels, via cAMP analog 8-bromo-cAMP and AC activator forskolin. A similar increase was observed when the cells were treated with a novel cAMP analog, 8-(4-chlorophenylthio)-2'-O-methyl adenosine-3',5'-cyclic monophosphate (8-CPT-2ME-cAMP), which activates Epac specifically but not PKA. Moreover, the gonadotropin-induced EGFR expression and ERK1/2 and Akt activation were abolished by overexpression of dominant negative Epac. Taken together, these results indicate that the AC/cAMP/Epac signaling pathway may mediate the up-regulation of EGFR by gonadotropins via ERK1/2 and Akt activation.</P>
