      • TP53 Codon 72 Polymorphism and Risk of Acute Leukemia

        Dunna, Nageswara Rao,Vure, Sugunakar,Sailaja, K.,Surekha, D.,Raghunadharao, D.,Rajappa, Senthil,Vishnupriya, S. Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.1

TP53 is the mostly commonly mutated gene in many cancers and the P53 tumor suppressor protein is involved in multiple cellular processes, including transcription, DNA repair, genomic stability, senescence, cell cycle control and apoptosis. A common single nucleotide polymorphism located within the proline rich region of TP53 gene at codon 72 in exon 4 encodes either proline or arginine. TP53 Arg 72 is more active than TP53 Pro 72 in inducing apoptosis. The aim of this study was to understand the association of the 72 codon polymorphism with acute leukemia development and prognosis. A total of 288 acute leukemia cases comprising 147 acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) and 141 acute myeloid leukemia (AML), as well as 245 controls were recruited for analysis of the TP53 72 polymorphism using PCR-RFLP method. Significant association of homozygous arginine genotype with AML was observed (${\chi}^2$- 133.53; df-2, p < 0.001. When data were analyzed with respect to clinical variables, elevation in mean WBC, blast %, LDH levels and slight reduction in DFS in ALL cases with the arginine genotype was observed. In contrast, AML patients with Pro/Pro had elevated WBC, Blast%, LDH levels with slightly reduced DFS. Our study indicates that Arg/Arg genotype might confer increased risk to development of acute myeloid leukemia.

      • Deletion of GSTM1 and T1 Genes as a Risk Factor for Development of Acute Leukemia

        Dunna, Nageswara Rao,Vure, Sugunakar,Sailaja, K.,Surekha, D.,Raghunadharao, D.,Rajappa, Senthil,Vishnupriya, S. Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.4

The glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) are a family of enzymes involved in the detoxification of a wide range of chemicals, including important environmental carcinogens, as well as chemotherapeutic agents. In the present study 294 acute leukemia cases, comprising 152 of acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) and 142 of acute myeloid leukemia, and 251 control samples were analyzed for GSTM1 and GSTT1 polymorphisms through multiplex PCR methods. Significantly increased frequencies of GSTM1 null genotype (M0), GSTT1 null genotype (T0) and GST double null genotype (T0M0) were observed in the both ALL and AML cases as compared to controls. When data were analyzed with respect to clinical variables, increased mean levels of WBC, Blast %, LDH and significant reduction in DFS were observed in both ALL and AML cases with T0 genotype. In conclusion, absence of both GST M & GST T might confer increased risk of developing ALL or AML. The absence of GST enzyme might lead to oxidative stress and subsequent DNA damage resulting in genomic instability, a hallmark of acute leukemia. The GST enzyme deficiency might also exert impact on clinical prognosis leading to poorer DFS. Hence GST genotyping can be made mandatory in management of acute leukemia so that more aggressive therapy such as allogenic stem cell transplantation may be planned in the case of patients with a null genotype.

Implications of Five Laws of Library Science on Dr. S R Ranganathan’s Colon Classification: An Explorative Study

        S. K Asok Kumar,B. Ramesh Babu,P. Nageswara Rao 한국문헌정보학회 2011 한국문헌정보학회지 Vol.45 No.4

There have been several milestones in the history of library classification but most of the schemes failed to meet the new challenges in the organisation of information. Dr S R Ranganathan tried to revolutionise the whole thinking on classificatory approach, when he devised the Colon Classification (CC) in 1933. He developed the Colon Classification scheme with a sound theoretical background based on normative principles, Five laws of Library science, canons, etc. One important feature of CC is that, its use is not confined to information storage and retrieval alone. This paper presents an over view of different editions of the CC highlighting the salient features of the editions. Further the implication of Five Laws of Library Science has been described. The authors stressed that the features of such as greater hospitality, specificity and mixed notation has paved the way to design and develop the depth schedules on various micro level subjects and so far about 130 micro schedules have been published. The impressions by the leading LIS professionals during and after Ranganathan’s time have been highlighted. The authors expressed the fear that when the library world would see the complete version of the seventh edition of CC? It may be due to lack of institutional support engaging in the research or financial constraints. The authors are of the opinion that any scheme to flourish needs a sound research body to bring out the revised editions as done in the case of Dewey Decimal Classification. The relevance of the CC in the contemporary world of Librarianship is discussed. Finally concludes that CC needs to be resuscitated as it is a precious national heritage; and still a force for the management of libraries.

COMMON FIXED POINTS OF TWO PAIRS OF GENERALIZED WEAKLY CONTRACTIVE MAPS

        G. V. R. BABU,K. NAGESWARA RAO,G. N. ALEMAYEHU 장전수학회 2010 Advanced Studies in Contemporary Mathematics Vol.20 No.4

We define generalized weakly contractive condition for two pairs of selfmaps and prove the existence of common fixed points of these maps under the assumptions that these two pairs of maps are weakly compatible in a complete metric space. The same is extended to a sequence of selfmaps. Also, we prove the same for four such selfmaps in which one pair is compatible, reciprocal continuous and the other one is weakly compatible.

Effect of Cr$^{3+}$ Substitution on the Structural, Electrical and Magnetic Properties of Ni$_{0.7}$Zn$_{0.2}$Cu$_{0.1}$Fe$_{2-x}$Cr$_x$O$_4$ Ferrites

        G. Satyanarayana,G. Nageswara Rao,K. Vijaya Babu,G. V. Santosh Kumar,G. Dinesh Reddy 한국물리학회 2019 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.74 No.7

In this work, Ni$_{0.7}$Zn$_{0.2}$Cu$_{0.1}$Fe$_{2-x}$Cr$_x$O$_4$ ($x$ = 0.02, 0.04, 0.06, 0.08 and 0.1) ferrites were synthesized by using the solid state reaction method and how relevant properties of the samples were modified accordingly. The structural, morphological, magnetic and electrical features of the ferrites were evaluated by using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transmission infrared (FTIR) spectra, vibrating sample magnetometry, electron spin resonance and network analyser. The lattice constant decreases with increasing chromium concentration and the decrease in the lattice constant is attributed to the ionic radius of chromium being smaller than that of iron. The distribution of metal cations in the spinel structure was estimated from the X-ray diffraction data and showed that along with Ni$^{2+}$ ions, most of the Zn$^{2+}$ and the Cu$^{2+}$ ions additionally occupied the octahedral [B] sites. The FTIR spectra revealed two prominent frequency bands in the wave number range 400--600 cm$^{-1}$ which confirm the cubic spinel structure. The magnetic properties, such as the initial permeability, saturation magnetization and coercivity, were investigated at room temperature. The frequency-dependent dielectric constant was observed to decrease with increasing chromium concentration. This behavior was using Koop’s phenomenological theory.

Cavitation studies on axi-symmetric underwater body with pumpjet propulsor in cavitation tunnel

Ch. Suryanarayana,B. Satyanarayana,K. Ramji,M. Nageswara Rao 대한조선학회 2010 International Journal of Naval Architecture and Oc Vol.2 No.4

A pumpjet propulsor (PJP) was designed for an underwater body (UWB) with axi-symmetric configuration. Its performance was predicted through CFD study and models were manufactured. The propulsor design was evaluated for its propulsion characteristics through model tests conducted in a Wind Tunnel (WT). In the concluding part of the study, evaluation of the cavitation performance of the pumpjet was undertaken in a cavitation tunnel (CT). In order to assess the cavitation free operation speeds and depths of the body, cavitation tests of the PJP were carried out in behind condition to determine the inception cavitation numbers for rotor, stator and cowl. The model test results obtained were corrected for full scale Reynolds number and subsequently analyzed for cavitation inception speeds at different operating depths. From model tests it was also found that the cavitation inception of the rotor takes place on the tip face side at higher advance ratios and cavitation shifts towards the suction side as the RPS increases whereas the stator and cowl are free from cavitation.
