Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) has been widely used for treatment of various rheumatic and dermatologic diseases. However, under a high cumulative dose, HCQ may cause retinal toxicity. In this review, we summarize the underlying mechanisms, prevalence, risk factors, clinical characteristics, screening tests, treatments, and prognosis of HCQ retinopathy. Because HCQ retinopathy is rarely reversible, screening tests to determine the retinal toxicity prior to its development are important. The American Academy of Ophthalmology screening protocols for early detection were updated in 2013. However, as a different clinical type is found in Asian patients, predominantly the pericentral type of photoreceptor damage, rather than the traditional parafoveal type, we propose a modified screening protocol for detection of HCQ retinopathy in Korean and other Asian patients. <P>Copy number variants and point mutations of <I>NEPH2</I> (also called <I>KIRREL3</I>) gene encoding an immunoglobulin (Ig) superfamily adhesion molecule have been linked to autism spectrum disorders, intellectual disability and neurocognitive delay associated with Jacobsen syndrome, but the physiological roles of Neph2 in the mammalian brain remain largely unknown. Neph2 is highly expressed in the dentate granule (DG) neurons of the hippocampus and is localized in both dendrites and axons. It was recently shown that Neph2 is required for the formation of mossy fiber filopodia, the axon terminal structure of DG neurons forming synapses with GABAergic neurons of CA3. In contrast, however, it is unknown whether Neph2 also has any roles in the postsynaptic compartments of DG neurons. We here report that, through its C-terminal PDZ domain-binding motif, Neph2 directly interacts with postsynaptic density (PSD)-95, an abundant excitatory postsynaptic scaffolding protein. Moreover, Neph2 protein is detected in the brain PSD fraction and interacts with PSD-95 in synaptosomal lysates. Functionally, loss of Neph2 in mice leads to age-specific defects in the synaptic connectivity of DG neurons. Specifically, <I>Neph2<SUP>−/−</SUP></I> mice show significantly increased spontaneous excitatory synaptic events in DG neurons at postnatal week 2 when the endogenous Neph2 protein expression peaks, but show normal excitatory synaptic transmission at postnatal week 3. The evoked excitatory synaptic transmission and synaptic plasticity of medial perforant pathway (MPP)-DG synapses are also normal in <I>Neph2<SUP>−/−</SUP></I> mice at postnatal week 3, further confirming the age-specific synaptic defects. Together, our results provide some evidence for the postsynaptic function of Neph2 in DG neurons during the early postnatal period, which might be implicated in neurodevelopmental and cognitive disorders caused by <I>NEPH2</I> mutations.</P>

In this study, the colorimetric sensor, polyester (PET) fabric dyed with lead (II) acetate (Pb(C<sub>2</sub>H<sub>3</sub>O<sub>2</sub>)<sub>2</sub>), was fabricated and characterized for the detection of the hydrogen sulfide (H<sub>2</sub>S). The surface morphology of the fabric was determined using scanning electron microscope and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The optical properties of the fabric were evaluated by measuring the variation in the blue value of an RGB sensor. The fabric showed a significant color change, high linearity (R<sup>2</sup>: 0.98256), and fast response time (< 1.0 s) when exposed to H<sub>2</sub>S. This is because the sensor is highly porous and permeable to the gas. The fabric can not only be used as a hydrogen sulfide sensor but also be used to detect and prevent H<sub>2</sub>S influx using sticky tape on pipelines.
글로벌생산네트워크의 변화추세 분석 -사회망분석기법을 활용한 자동차 및 반도체 산업을 중심으로

본 논문은 한국의 주요 수출품목인 자동차와 반도체 산업을 대상으로 하여, 글로벌생산네트워크의 최근 변화 추이를 분석한다. 생산네트워크의 변화를 관찰하기 위해서는 사회망분석기법의 군집구조 및 중심성 분석을 활용한다. 특히 본 논문에서는 기존 연구의 광의품목 분류보다 세분화한 HS6단위의 상품분류를 이용하여 반도체 및 자동차 세부 품목 무역데이터를 기초데이터로 사용하였다. 주요분석결과와 시사점은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 자동차와 반도체 모두에서 글로벌생산네트워크의 군집구조가 약화되는 추세가 관찰된다. 둘째, 미국과 그 외 주요 국가간의 내향 및 외향중심성은 2019년 전후로 반대 방향으로의 변화가 관찰된다. 이는 미국의 보호무역으로 각국의 수출네트워크가 축소되는 영향 및 수입네트워크 확대의 노력이 동시에 작용한 결과라고 판단된다. 셋째, 글로벌생산네트워크에의 영향은 상대적으로 중국 및 반도체 품목에서 큰 변화가 나타난 것으로 관찰된다. This paper analyzes changing patterns of the global production network focusing on the automobile and semiconductor industries. The main methodologies are the community modularity and centrality analysis based on HS 6digit classification. The main findings are as follows. First, cohesion and centrality analysis reveals that the global production networks has been weakening in both automobile and semiconductor industries. Second, Indegree and outdegree centrality in U.S. and other major countries is observed to change in the opposite direction around 2019. This would be the results of the U.S. initiated trade policy and reponses in other countiries. Third, the impact on the production network is observed relatively large in China and semicomductor industries.

In this paper, the TiO<sub>2</sub>/glucose oxidase (GOD) mixture has synthesized through simple and low-cost fabrication methods. The physical properties of the mixture were proved using an FT-IR/NIR spectrometer, an X-Ray diffractometer, and a Raman spectrometer. GOD maintained its bioactivity during all fabrication process. The current characteristics of the glucose biosensor were proportional to the glucose concentration and effective surface area of square pyramid on a silicon substrate. The maximum current change was measured in a pH 7.0 buffer solution. The simple and low-cost fabrication process and surface treatment can be used widely in previous research for improvements in effective surface area.
Incidence and Risk Factors of Ocular Infection Caused by <i>Staphylococcus aureus</i> Bacteremia

<P>Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia (SAB) often leads to ocular infections, including endophthalmitis and chorioretinitis. However, the incidence, risk factors, and outcomes of ocular infections complicated by SAB are largely unknown. We retrospectively analyzed the incidence and risk factors of ocular involvement in a prospective cohort of patients with SAB at a tertiary-care hospital. Ophthalmologists reviewed the fundoscopic findings and classified the ocular infections as endophthalmitis or chorioretinitis. During the 5-year study period, 1,109 patients had SAB, and data for 612 (55%) who underwent ophthalmic examinations within 14 days after SAB onset were analyzed. Of those 612 patients, 56 (9% [95% confidence interval [CI], 7 to 12%]) had ocular involvement, including 15 (2.5%) with endophthalmitis and 41 (6.7%) with chorioretinitis. In a multivariate analysis, infective endocarditis (adjusted odds ratio [aOR], 5.74 [95% CI, 2.25 to 14.64]) and metastatic infection (aOR, 2.38 [95% CI, 1.29 to 4.39]) were independent risk factors for ocular involvement. Of the 47 patients with ocular involvement who could communicate, only 17 (36%) had visual disturbances. Two-thirds of the patients with endophthalmitis (10/15 patients) were treated with intravitreal antibiotics combined with parenteral antibiotics, whereas all of the patients with chorioretinitis were treated only with systemic antibiotics. No patients became blind. Among 42 patients for whom follow-up assessments were available, the ocular lesions improved in 29 (69%) but remained the same in the others. Ocular involvement was independently associated with death within 30 days after SAB onset. Ocular involvement is not uncommon among patients with SAB. Routine ophthalmic examinations should be considered for patients with infective endocarditis or metastatic infections caused by SAB.</P>
