        Flow field characteristics of an agitator system of a large diameter slurry-water shield machine

        A numerical model was established for calculation in this study on the basis of the standard k-epsilon turbulence model and the discrete phase model of the Euler-Lagrange equation. Results of the particle image velocimetry experiment were used to verify the reliability of the numerical model. The effects of the rotation speeds, slurry densities, and impeller structures on the flow field characteristics, including velocity distribution, ballast fluidity, and power loss, were also investigated. The results indicate that the increase of rotation speed has little influence on the flow field near the wall and bottom of the agitator, and the agitator performs well when the speed is set between 30 rpm and 40 rpm. The increase of the slurry density will increase the pressure loss between the inlet and the outlet, and it will also increase the load of the agitator. Hence, the slurry density must be less than 1400 kg/m 3 . The baffle can improve the velocity distribution of the flow field and the slag discharge capacity of the agitator.

      • Structural Conservation and Food Habit-related Liver Expression of Uncoupling Protein 2 Gene in Five Major Chinese Carps

        The full-length cDNA of grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idellus) and silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) uncoupling protein 2 (UCP2) was obtained from liver. The grass carp UCP2 cDNA was determined to be 1152 bp in length with an open reading frame that encodes 310 amino acids. Five introns (Intron 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7) in the translated region, and partial sequence of Intron 2 in the untranslated region of grass carp UCP2 gene were also obtained. Gene structure comparison between grass carp and mammalian (human and mouse) UCP2 gene shows that, the UCP2 gene structure of grass carp is much similar to that of human and mouse. Partial UCP2 cDNA sequences of bighead carp (Aristichthys nobilis) and mud carp (Cirrhinus molitorella), were further determined. Together with the common carp (Cyprinus carpio) UCP2 sequence from GenBank (AJ243486), multiple alignment result shows that the nucleotide and amino acid sequences of the UCP2 gene, were highly conserved among the five major Chinese carps that belong to four subfamilies. Using beta-actin as control, the ratio UCP2/beta-actin mRNA (%) was determined to be $149.4{\pm}15.6$ (common carp), $127.4{\pm}22.1$ (mud carp), $96.7{\pm}12.7$ (silver carp), $94.1{\pm}26.8$ (bighead carp) and $63.7{\pm}16.2$ (grass carp). The relative liver UCP2 expression of the five major Chinese carps, shows a close relationship with their food habit: benthos and detrituseating fish (common carp and mud carp) > planktivorious fish (silver carp and bighead carp) > herbivorious fish (grass carp). We suggest that liver UCP2 might be important for Chinese carps to detoxify cyanotoxins and bacteria in debris and plankton food.

        Experimental Study and Statistical Theory of Creep Behavior of Warm Frozen Silt

        To investigate the soil parameters and stochastic mechanical characteristics of warm frozen silt, a series of triaxial compression tests were conducted on frozen silt at the temperature of -1.5°C under confining pressures of 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 MPa. The results indicate that the creep properties of warm frozen silt are affected considerably by stress levels. The creep show present primary and secondary creep stages under low stress level and indicate that the specimen is destroyed quickly under high stress levels. Based on phenomenological theory, a unified creep constitutive model of warm frozen silt was proposed. The results predicted by the proposed model agree well with corresponding experimental data. Investigation of the random distribution has revealed that the parameters of the proposed creep model could be better described by a normal distribution. Based on the dynamic theory of frozen soil strength, the long-term strength of warm frozen silt was obtained, and was found to exhibit nonlinear behavior with increasing confining pressure. The Weibull function can represent the random distribution well, and the reliabilities of long-term strength were given under different confining pressures.

        Standardized Treatment and Shortened Depression Course can Reduce Cognitive Impairment in Adolescents With Depression

        Objectives: This study aimed to explore the influence of depression severity, disease course, treatment status, and other factors on cognitive function in adolescents with depressive disorders. Methods: Participants who met the inclusion criteria were enrolled in the study. Sociodemographic data of each participant were recorded, including age, sex, and family history of mental disorders. Zung’s Self-Rating Depression Scale was used to assess depression status in adolescents. Moreover, P300 and mismatch negativity (MMN) were used to objectively evaluate the participants’ cognitive function. Results: Only 26.8% of the adolescents with depression received standard antidepressant treatment. The latencies of N2 (267.80±23.34 ms), P3 (357.71±32.09 ms), and MMN (212.10±15.61 ms) in the adolescent depression group were longer than those in the healthy control group (p<0.01). Further analysis revealed that the latency of MMN was extended with increased levels of depression in adolescents. The MMN latency was short in participants with depression receiving standardized treatment. Furthermore, the latency of MMN was positively correlated with the severity and duration of depression (correlation coefficients were 0.465 and 0.479, respectively) (p<0.01). Conclusion: Receiving standardized treatment and shortening the course of depression can reduce cognitive impairment in adolescents with depression.

        A Tower-Shaped Three-Dimensional Piezoelectric Energy Harvester for Low-Level and Low-Frequency Vibration

        The multiple forms of vibration exist in an ambient environment diffusely and already become a considerable object for energy harvesting. However, how to effectively extract low-level, low-frequency, and multi-directional vibration from the ambient environment is becoming a key issue in the field of energy harvesting. To solve this issue, a tower-shaped piezoelectric vibration energy harvester (TS-PVEH) is reported. Finite element simulation indicates that TS-PVEH works in two fundamental modes, i.e., its in-plane and out-of-plane vibration modes. Meanwhile, simulation results show that the natural frequency of TS-PVEH is 3.39 Hz, 3.40 Hz, and 11.50 Hz, respectively; and the experiments also verified that. By virtue of the tower structure of TS-PVEH, the device is pretty sensitive to three-dimensional vibration. At a low level of acceleration 1 m/s 2 , the maximum load power of TS-PVEH is 65.8 μW in out-of-plane mode and 17.2 μW in in-plane mode, respectively. Furthermore, the effects of the PVDF connection mode on the output performance of TS-PVEH were studied in detail, and comparative experimental results show that a reasonable connection of PVDF can improve energy harvesting efficiency. The proposed TS-PVEH is expected to be used to scavenge energy from multi-dimensional, low-level, and low-frequency vibrations that present in an ambient environment.
