A Simplified Analytical Solution for the Necking Semi-empirical Stresses based on Aramis System

        Shier Dong,Anjiang Xian,Hazem Samih Mohamed,Yi Chen,Jinghui Yao 대한토목학회 2019 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.23 No.1

To make comparison between classic necking stress solution Bridgman formula and ChenChi formula, the difference of necking surface profile assumptions in these two formulas were discussed theoretically. Then, the uniaxial tension experiment on 16 groups of carbon structural steels Q235 and Q345 were carried out at room temperature. Associate with the necking displacement measured by Aramis optical dynamic 3D strain measurement system, the parameter equation of necking surface profile was determined. The comparison results indicate that ChenChi formula is more accurate than Bridgman formula in calculating the necking stress distribution. Furthermore, to overcome the difficulty of measuring the radius curvature R in these formulas, an empirical formula of the geometric dimensions in the necking section was applied and the parameter was corrected based on the necking strain measured by Aramis system. As a result, the obtained equation in this study can provide an improved calculation method for the analysis of three-dimensional stress in necking and a reference for future research on the necking and ductile fracture of structural steels.

Improved Survival of Cancer Patients Admitted to the Intensive Care Unit between 2002 and 2011 at a U.S. Teaching Hospital

Christopher Martin Sauer,Jinghui Dong,Leo Anthony Celi,Daniele Ramazzotti 대한암학회 2019 Cancer Research and Treatment Vol.51 No.3

Purpose Cancer patients are at increased risk of treatment- or disease-related admission to the intensive care unit. Over the past decades, both critical care and cancer care have improved substantially. Due to increased cancer-specific survival, we hypothesized that the number of cancer patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) and survival have increased. Materials and Methods MIMIC-III was used to study trends and outcomes of cancer patients admitted to the ICU between 2002 and 2011. Multiple logistic regression analysis was performed to adjust for confounders of mortality. Results Among 41,468 patients analyzed, 1,083 were hemato-oncologic, 4,330 were oncologic and 66 patients had both a hematological and solid malignancy. Admission numbers more than doubled and the proportion of cancer patients in the ICU increased steadily from 2002 to 2011. In both the univariate and multivariate analyses, solid cancers and hematologic cancers were strongly associated with 28-day mortality. This association was even stronger for 1-year mortality, with odds ratios of 4.02 (95% confidence interval [CI], 3.69 to 4.38) and 2.25 (95% CI, 1.93 to 2.62), respectively. Over the 10-year study period, both 28-day and 1-year mortality decreased, with hematologic patients showing the strongest annual adjusted decrease in the odds of death. There was considerable heterogeneity among solid cancer types. Conclusion Between 2002 and 2011, the number of cancer patients admitted to the ICU more than doubled, while clinical severity scores remained overall unchanged, suggesting improved treatment. Although cancer patients had higher mortality rates, both 28-day and 1-year mortality of hematologic patients decreased faster than that of non-cancer patients, while mortality rates of cancer patients strongly depended on cancer type.

Anwulignan alleviates D-galactose induced renal damage by regulating Nrf2/ARE signaling pathway in mice

        Chunna Liu,Huijiao Lin,Liu Jiawei,Yao Wang,Chunmei Wang,Jinghui Sun,Chunyan Yu,Ying Dong,Wenyue Zhuang,Shu Jing,JianGuang Chen,He Li 한국식품과학회 2021 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.30 No.8

Free radical accumulation in the body will cause oxidative stress damages including the renal damage. Schisandrae Sphenantherae Fructus (Schisandra), a traditional Chinese herbal medicine, has been used throughout the world. Anwulignan, a monomer extracted from Schisandra, has been shown in our previous studies to possess antioxidant and protective effects on the liver, brain and spleen damages in the aging mice. However, its effect on the renal damage caused by aging is not clear. This study showed that anwulignan could significantly increase the kidney index, the creatinine clearance, the activities of superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione peroxidase; reduce the urinary protein concentration, the serum urea nitrogen and creatinine content, the content of malondialdehyde and 8-hydroxylated deoxyguanosine in the renal tissue; and improve the renal tissue damage. Moreover, anwulignan increased the production of Nrf2, HO-1 and NQO1 proteins and decreased the production level of Keap1 protein in the renal tissue in the D-galactose induced aging mice. These results suggest that anwulignan significantly alleviates the renal damage by its antioxidant effect through regulating the production of Nrf2/ARE pathway-related proteins in the renal tissue in the D-galactose induced aging mice.
