        Babinet-Inverted Optical Yagi–Uda Antenna for Unidirectional Radiation to Free Space

        <P>Nanophotonics capable of directing radiation or enhancing quantum-emitter transition rates rely on plasmonic nanoantennas. We present here a novel Babinet-inverted magnetic-dipole-fed multislot optical Yagi–Uda antenna that exhibits highly unidirectional radiation to free space, achieved by engineering the relative phase of the interacting surface plasmon polaritons between the slot elements.         문화예술교육 효과의 지속성 연구

        본 연구는 초등학교에서 받은 문화예술교육이 졸업 후에도 지속적 영향을 주는지를 확인하려는 목적을 가지고 있다. 이를 위해 1기 예술꽃 씨앗학교로 선정된 10개 초등학교 졸업생 200명을 대상으로 설문과 면접조사를 하였다. 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 학생들은 초등학교 때의 문화예술교육이 문화예술적 영역뿐만 아니라 인성적 영역, 기타 학교 및 가정생활 영역에서 매우 긍정적 영향을 받았다고 인식하고 있었다. 둘째, 학생들은 예술꽃 씨앗학교 졸업 이후에 진학 학교에서의 문화예술경험이 현격하게 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 진학한 중학교가 문화예술을 경험할 기회를 제공하지 않는 것과 문화예술교육을 지원할 수 없는 가정환경 등이 중요한 원인이었다. 셋째, 졸업생들은 세 가지 유형으로 분류되었다. 단절형은 졸업이후 거의 문화예술경험을 하지 않는 경우, 부분지속형은 지역의 문화예술 활동단체에 가입하여 경험하는 경우, 지속형은 진학한 중학교가 문화예술활동을 지원하는 학교이어서 지속적으로 경험하는 경우인데, 이는 매우 드문 경우에 속한다. 초등학교 때 집중적으로 받은 문화예술교육의 효과가 지속적으로 극대화되기 위해서는 학교급의 연계가 필요하며, 진학한 상급학교에 문화예술 프로그램이 없더라도 모교가 '졸업생-재학생간의 멘토링 활동', '졸업생 공연' 등 졸업생의 문화예술적 소양을 발휘할 수 있는 기회를 지속적으로 제공하는 방안 등이 요구된다. The Korean Ministry of Culture, Sport, and Tourism, recognizing the importance of School Arts and Culture Education (SACE), has been supporting selected elementary school students in economically and culturally disadvantaged regions to obtain cultural and artistic experiences. The purpose of this study was to examine the continuous effects of the SACE on the recipients after graduation. In order to achieve this, the first stage SACE alumni of 200, currently middle school students, were contacted for questionnaires and interviews. The results were as follows. Firstly, the first stage alumni strongly perceived the SACE beneficial to their character building, satisfactory school and family life, and cultural and artistic capacity development. Secondly, their in-school cultural and artistic experiences dramatically diminished after graduation, partly due to the insufficient opportunities for cultural and artistic experiences provided by their middle schools and their caregivers at home. Thirdly, the alumni can be categorized in three groups: discontinued, partly continued, and continued. Students in the discontinued group had hardly cultural and artistic experiences after graduation. Those in the partly continued group joined regional cultural and artistic organizations, and thus had some experiences. Those lucky students whose middle schools support cultural and artistic activities were categorized as the continued group, but this cases were quite rare. To maximize the continued effectiveness of the cultural and artistic education, elementary schools and middle schools need to collaborate together. Furthermore, their alma mater could provide opportunities to the alumni such as student-graduate mentoring or graduate performance programs.

        Ergonomic Evaluation of Console Chairs for a Weapon Locating Radar

        Objective:The present study is intended to evaluate the usability of a console chair for a weapon locating radar by comparing with different kinds of chair design. Background: Console chairs need to be ergonomically designed to reduce physical workload of operators and improve mission capability; few studies have been reported which systematically evaluate usability of military console chairs. Method: Ergonomic design of a console chair, a bus seat, and an office chair was evaluated in terms of headrest, seatback, seatpan, armrest, and controller on a 7-point scale. Ten males in their 20s and 30s were recruited considering the demographic characteristics of console operators. Results: The satisfaction scores of the console chair for headrest, seatback, and seatpan were significantly higher than those of the bus seat (mean difference [MD] = 0.9) and office chair (MD = 1.3). Meanwhile, the satisfaction scores of the console chair for armrest and controller were significantly lower than those of the office chair (MD = -1.4) and bus seat (MD = -2.2). Conclusion: The armrest and controller of the console chair needs ergonomic improvements for better comfort. Application: The evaluation results of the console chair would be of use for ergonomic console chair design.

      • 4기통 부분예혼합압축착화 디젤엔진에서의 과급과 EGR의 효과적 적용에 대한 연구

        This study introduced the premixed compression ignition and combustion method and applied turbocharging and EGR to a four-cylinder diesel engine simultaneously in order to improve the NOx and smoke emission performance of the diesel engine. Furthermore, this study examined the exhaust performance improvement and EGR rate limit when a high EGR rate is set up in the HPL (high pressure loop) EGR system to increase the degree of understanding about the turbocharging and EGR in a diesel engine and to provide base data for the performance improvement of turbocharging and the EGR system. For these purposes, this study performed the performance test of a turbocharger, developed a surge limit model, and investigated the correlation between EGR and VGT (variable geometry turbocharger). With the result of this study, the emission performance could be improved by reducing the compression ratio and applying split injection in the four-cylinder diesel engine. In addition, it was found experimentally that the emission performance could be further improved through the application of high boost and high EGR rate. However, this study provided concrete technical requirements on new turbocharging and EGR systemsby presenting the test result that the technical considerations must be made on the surge limit and EGR rate control for the turbocharger when applying high boost and high EGR rate in existing HPL EGR systems.
