<P>Oxide nanomembrane hybrids with enhanced mechano- and thermo-sensitivity for semitransparent epidermal electronics are developed. The use of nanomaterials (single wall nanotubes and silver nanoparticles) embedded in the oxide nanomembranes significantly enhances mechanical and thermal sensitivities. These mechanical and thermal sensors are utilized in wheelchair control and hypothermia detection, which are useful for patients with strokes.</P>
Electromechanical cardioplasty using a wrapped elasto-conductive epicardial mesh

<P>Heart failure remains a major public health concern with a 5-year mortality rate higher than that of most cancers. Myocardial disease in heart failure is frequently accompanied by impairment of the specialized electrical conduction system and myocardium. We introduce an epicardial mesh made of electrically conductive and mechanically elastic material, to resemble the innate cardiac tissue and confer cardiac conduction system function, to enable electromechanical cardioplasty. Our epicardium-like substrate mechanically integrated with the heart and acted as a structural element of cardiac chambers. The epicardial device was designed with elastic properties nearly identical to the epicardial tissue itself and was able to detect electrical signals reliably on the moving rat heart without impeding diastolic function 8 weeks after induced myocardial infarction. Synchronized electrical stimulation over the ventricles by the epicardial mesh with the high conductivity of 11,210 S/cm shortened total ventricular activation time, reduced inherent wall stress, and improved several measures of systolic function including increases of 51% in fractional shortening, similar to 90% in radial strain, and 42% in contractility. The epicardial mesh was also capable of delivering an electrical shock to terminate a ventricular tachyarrhythmia in rodents. Electromechanical cardioplasty using an epicardial mesh is a new pathway toward reconstruction of the cardiac tissue and its specialized functions.</P>
A Knowledge Structure of Nursing Informatics: A Text Network Analysis and Topic Modeling

Aim(s): With the advent of information age and development of technology, the importance of digitalization and digital health technologies has increased. As digital technology showed up, nursing informatics has developed as well with medical informatics integrating nursing science with information management to manage and communicate data and information. This study aimed to identify the knowledge structure and the research trends on Nursing informatics by conducting quantitative content analysis using text network analysis. Method(s): It analyzed 14,225 studies which published from 1974 to Oct, 2020. Knowledge structure of nursing informatics and the change of it, core keywords of nursing informatics research, and topic analysis and trend of topic (change) were identified. Result(s): Patient, health, system, and information act as a central word connecting core keywords. By time, information, communication, and technology strengthen their connection and with the development of technology, patient safety and quality issue showed up recently. With such change, the importance of nursing education on technology also has increased. Those changes are also appeared on topic analysis which showed increased proportion of system and technology related research and research on nursing education. Conclusion(s): Through the findings in this study, it can be expected that the importance of nursing informatics based on the development of systems and technology is growing in patient safety and nursing education. Furthermore, it can be suggested that further research in this field is necessary in the future.
국제적 품질인증 과정을 통한 의료서비스의 총체적 품질관리

국내 의료서비스 시장의 해외 개방에 대비함과 동시에 세계적인 의료기관으로 도약하기 위해 국내 최대 규모의 새 병원 건립을 마친 세브란스병원의 경영진은, 규모에 못지 않은 높은 수준의 의료서비스를 제공함으로써 국내 의료계에 새로운 표준을 제시하는 병원이 되겠다는 비전을 내세우고, 이의 달성을 위한 구체적 방안을 모색하고 있었다. 의료서비스 품질 차원에서의 국제적 경쟁력 확보를 위해서는 국제적으로 공신력 있는 의료기관 품질 경영 인증을 획득하는 것이 우선이라고 생각한 세브란스병원 경영진은 대표적 의료서비스 품질 인증인 JCI(Joint Commission International)인증 획득에 도전하기로 한다. 총 1000개가 넘는 평가 항목들로 구성되어 있으며 이 가운데 하나라도 표준에 미달될 경우에는 인증을 받지 못하도록 되어 있는 엄격한 JCI 평가 기준을 충족시키기 위해서는 총체적 품질관리(TQM)의 실행은 필수적이었다. TQM은‘고객 요구 품질’내지‘고객 만족 품질’을 목표로 기업 활동 전반에서의 품질 향상을 통해 고객 만족의 목표를 달성하고자 하는 경영 방식이다. 하지만 TQM 활동을 통한 성공적인 성과 달성이 결코 쉬운 일은 아니다. 필수적으로 수행되어야 할 세부 활동들이 매우 다양할 뿐만 아니라 각 세부 활동의 성공적 실행은 조직문화의 혁신적인 변화와 조직 내 모든 구성원들의 적극적인 참여와 협조를 요구한다. 본 사례는 성공적인 JCI인증 획득을 위해 세브란스병원이 실행한 총체적 품질 관리의 단계 및 영역 별 구체적인 실행 내용 및 성과를 소개한다. 즉, 총체적 품질관리를 통한 성과 달성의 결정적 요소인 최고 경영자의 의지, 적절한 조직 구조, 조직 구성원의 적극적 참여, 부서 간 협업, 지속적 개선을 위한 평가 기준의 작성, 훈련 및 평가 차원 별로 세브란스병원이 직면했던 과제들을 소개하고 그러한 이슈들에 대한 세브란스병원의 해결방안들을 제시함으로써 품질 인증 획득 과정을 통한 성공적인 조직변화 전략 및 구체적인 운영 방안들을 제시한다. Getting prepared to successfully compete in the Korean healthcare service industry, which is soon to be open to the global competitors, the top management team at Severance Hospital has been diligently sketching out concrete plans to accomplish its vision to become a world’s premiere healthcare service provider. In the process, the realizes the essential need for Severance to be certified by a globally recognized healthcare service quality certification program and decides to try for JCI(Joint Commission International) certification. In order to be certified by JCI, which issues a certification only when all of its over 1,000 requirements are satisfactorily fulfilled, it was essential for Severance to adopt and implement total quality management(TQM) approaches. TQM is a holistic quality management approach towards the goal of customer satisfaction. Accomplishing the goal of TQM activities is not easy due to its broad scope, fundamental changes it requires in the organizational culture and active participation of and cooperation from every member of the organization. This case introduces and describes the steps and outcomes of the TQM approach Severance Hospital took and accomplished in the process of acquiring the certification from JCI. Specifically, this case suggests possible strategies and tactics that can be used to successfully implement organizational and operational changes by describing the challenges, tasks and solutions Severance faced, handled and tried in each critical TQM area such as top management commitment, organizational structure, employee participation, inter-departmental cooperation, employee training and education, and continuous improvement.
