The Miocene aged Shanwang Formation from the Shanwang National Geopark in China represents a succession of lacustrine diatomaceous shales containing an abundant and diverse biota with lagerstätte fossilization of soft tissues. To date, the Shanwang Formation has not been investigated for cyclostratigraphy nor has it been dated with high precision methods. Now we use thorium data as a paleoenvironmental and paleoclimatic proxy to conduct a detailed cyclostratigraphic analysis. A new and simple cyclostratigraphic method, Wavelet Scale Series Analysis (WSSA) is developed to recognize Milankovitch cycles. A total of three short eccentricity and fifteen precession cycles are identified; obliquity cycles are not apparent. In the sedimentary succession, the corresponding precession and short eccentricity cycles are 1.17 m and 4.98 m thick respectively, with this verified by Correlation Coefficient (COCO) analysis and Multitaper-Method (MTM) spectral analysis. We estimate the studied interval was deposited over a duration of 0.3 Myr with a depositional rate of c. 5.7 cm/kyr. Paleomagnetic and radio isotope dating data shows that the diatomaceous shale was deposited during Chron C5En, which places it at approximately 18.5 Ma during the Burdigalian stage of the Early Miocene, rather than in the Middle Miocene as previously thought. The Shanwang lagerstätte biota therefore predates the Middle Miocene Climate Optimum (MMCO) and did not form within it. The geological time scale with a high resolution of 20 kyr was set accordingly.
Refinement of Kinect Sensor’s Depth Maps Based on GMM and CS Theory
Qian Zhang,ShaoMin Li,Wenfeng Guo,Pei Wang,Jifeng Huang 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Signal Processing, Image Vol.8 No.5
As the Microsoft’s Kinect sensor can generate a real-time dense depth map with relatively commercial available, it is widely used in depth map capturing. However, there are some artifacts like holes, instability of the raw input data, which seriously affect the application. To solve this problem, in this paper, we propose a novel depth map refinement method based on by GMM and CS theory which enable the kinect sensor generate a dense depth map, the background large holes are filled without blurring, and the edges of the objects are sharpened, median filter is used to remove noise. Experiments on captured indoor data demonstrate the effectiveness of the method especially in the edge area and occlusion area that our method can obtain better results.
Function identification of bovine Nramp1 promoter and intron 1
Hao, Linlin,Zhang, Libo,Li, Mingtang,Nan, Wang,Liu, Songcai,Zhong, Jifeng The Korean Society for Integrative Biology 2011 Animal cells and systems Vol.15 No.3
The Nramp1/Slc11a1 locus encodes a proton-coupled divalent cation transporter, expressed in late endosomes/lysosomes of macrophages, that constitutes a component of the innate immune response to combat intracellular pathogens and it was shown to play an important role in regulating inherent immunity. The previously identified Z-DNA forming polymorphic repeat(GT)n in the promoter region of the human Nramp1 gene does act as a functional polymorphism influencing gene expression. Research has shown that INF-${\gamma}$, TNF-${\alpha}$, IL-$1{\beta}$ and bacteria LPS increase the level of Nramp1 expression. However, the molecular mechanism for Nramp1 gene regulation is unclear. In this research, bovine Nramp1 5'-flanking region (-1748~+769) was cloned and analyzed by bioinformatics. Then to find the core promoter and the cis-acting elements, deletion analysis of promoter was performed using a set of luciferase reporter gene constructs containing successive deletions of the bovine Nramp1 5'-flanking regions. Promoter activity analysis by the dual luciferase reporter assay system showed that the core promoter of Nramp1 was located at +58~-89 bp. Some positive regulatory elements are located at -89~-205 bp and -278~-1495 bp. And the repressor elements were in region -205~-278 bp, intron1 and -1495~-1748 bp. LPS-responsive regions were located at -1495~-1748 bp and -278~-205 bp. The present study provides an initial effort to explore the molecular mechanism of transcriptional activation of the bovine Nramp1 gene and should facilitate further studies to decode the complex regulatory process and for molecular breeding for disease resistance in bovines.
Few Samples Face Recognition Based on Generative Score Space
Wang, Bin,Wang, Cungang,Zhang, Qian,Huang, Jifeng Korean Society for Internet Information 2016 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.10 No.12
Few samples face recognition has become a highly challenging task due to the limitation of available labeled samples. As two popular paradigms in face image representation, sparse component analysis is highly robust while parts-based paradigm is particularly flexible. In this paper, we propose a probabilistic generative model to incorporate the strengths of the two paradigms for face representation. This model finds a common spatial partition for given images and simultaneously learns a sparse component analysis model for each part of the partition. The two procedures are built into a probabilistic generative model. Then we derive the score function (i.e. feature mapping) from the generative score space. A similarity measure is defined over the derived score function for few samples face recognition. This model is driven by data and specifically good at representing face images. The derived generative score function and similarity measure encode information hidden in the data distribution. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed method, we perform few samples face recognition on two face datasets. The results show its advantages.
