Magnetism of Asymmetrically Terminated FeRh(001) Thin Films: A First-Principle Study

<P>Rh-terminated FeRh(001) film is known to be stable in a ferromagnetic (FM) state different from a G-type antiferromagnetic (G-AFM) bulk ground state, while an Fe-terminated FeRh(001) film has the same ground state as the bulk. In this paper, we investigate the magnetic properties of asymmetrically terminated FeRh(001) films: one surface is Fe-terminated and the other is Rh-terminated. We found that the films thicker than eight monolayers (MLs) have more or less complicated magnetic configuration: the topmost three layers from the Rh-terminated surface are FM while the rest are G-AFM. In particular, the magnetic configuration of the 8-ML FeRh(001) film has lower energy than the whole-layer G-AFM and FM states by 10.2 and 0.2 meV/Fe, respectively. The magnetic configuration of the asymmetrically terminated films is explained by the magnetic energy gain due to the magnetization of the Rh atoms.</P>

<P>A bulk d(0) NaN of rocksalt or zinc-blende structure was predicted to be a ferromagnetic half metal and furthermore the half-metallicity would be retained in thin films. Such half metallicity of d(0) ferromagnetic NaN is attractive for possible application in a spintronics device, such as a spin transfer torque magnetic random access memory. In this study, we carried out first-principles calculations on magnetocrystalline anisotropy rocksalt structured NaN thin films with different thicknesses, using Vienna Ab-initio Simulation Package code. It was found that the NaN(001) thin films have perpendicular magnetization with quite low magnetocrystalline anisotropy energies of order of 10 mu eV, but capping of a 5d-transition metal Ta monolayer over the NaN(001) thin films enhances the perpendicular magnetocrystalline anisotropy energies significantly, more than 10 times. Furthermore, the 1(Ta)/NaN(001) systems retain their half-metallicity except the NaN layer just below Ta.</P>

Cyclooxygenase(COX-2) is an inducible enzyme that catalyzes the synthesis of prostaglandins (PGs) from arachidonic acid. Over-expression of COX-2 has been reported to be associated with progressive hepatic fibrosis in chronic hepatic C infection and rat liver fibrosis induced by carbon tetrachloride($CCl_4$). Recently, it is well known that mast cell products can stimulate the proliferation of hepatic stellate cells and key players in liver fibrosis. But little is known regarding their role in $CCl_4$-induced liver fibrosis in rat. Our aim was to investigate the relation between COX-2 expression and mast cells during liver fibrosis after $CCl_4$ treatment. Thirty Wistar rats were divided into five groups (non-treated 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8-week after $CCl_4$-treatment). Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and immunohistochemistry were used to assess the expression of ${\alpha}$-smooth muscle actin (${\alpha}$-SMA), collagen-1 and COX-2 in liver tissue from $CCl_4$-treated rats. The density of collagen and mast cells were determined using a computerized image analysis system in liver sections stained with picrosirius red and toluidine blue, respectively. The expression levels of ${\alpha}$-SMA, collagen-1 and COX-2 mRNA were significantly higher at 2 wk in $CCl_4$-treated groups than non-treated group. The number of mast cells in liver tissues increased gradually from 2 wk to 6 wk depending on the fibrosis severity but decreased abruptly at 8 wk. The significant increase of collagen-1 and ${\alpha}$-SMA mRNA expression in $CCl_4$-treated rats was continued until 6 wk while the COX-2 mRNA was significantly decreased at 8 wk. These results suggest that increased mast cells are closely associated with COX-2 over-expression during hepatic fibrogenesis of $CCl_4$-treated rats.

「ナクテハ」は否定条件形式として「ナケレバ」の代表的な類似表現である。両者は、文法的にあまり相違のない形式とされており、両者の縮約形においても、話し言葉としてほぼ同じような役割を果たしているのが一般的である。だとすれば、両者は全く同じような意味機能を持つ形式であろうか。本調査で確認したように、「ナクテハ」と「ナケレバ」は、基本的な文法機能はあまり相違のない形であるものの、実際言語運用上では用いられる条件や文法機能のばらつきが見られる。特に、非条件的用法においてそのばらつきが観察される。また、両者の縮約形においても、同様な意味機能を持つ形式と見えるが、各形式が集中的に参与する用法があるということから、単に同等な形式とは言えない。今後、用例の調査範囲をより拡大し、再検証する余地はあるが、日本語教育の分野において否定条件形式の「ナケレバ(ナキャ)」と「ナクテハ(ナクチャ)」の相違点を明らかにする一事例として活用できると考えられる。 The negative conditional form nakutewa is a primary example of the nakereba-paradigm. It is widely assumed that the two forms are of little difference in terms of grammatical behaviours, and generally speaking, their contracted forms also play a similar role in spoken language. A question then emerges: Are these forms identical in terms of their semantic functions? As revealed in the present article, nakutewa and nakereba, though quite similar in terms of their grammatical functions, exhibit several differences concerning the conditions on their uses and their grammatical functions in actual language use. In particular, their differences stand out in their non-conditional uses. Their contracted forms display similar semantic functions, but they can not be equated with their non-contracted counterparts because each form is specifically related to different uses.

Two kinds of silver impregnation methods are most widely used in routine histopathological laboratory. that is frozen section which requires careful handling, and processing and produces inconstant result and uncomfortable procedure, in addition the section is easily or frequently detached from the slide due to high alkalinity of silver particles. This may be overcome by carrying out steps of the procedure . by floating the paraffin section on the solutions. The procedure shows simple and no detachment from the slide, also it can get a clear background by deparaffinization.
