Combustion characteristics of a 16 step grate-firing wood pellet boiler
J. Ahn,J. H. Jang 한국전산유체공학회 2014 한국전산유체공학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2014 No.10
The goal of the present study is to develop a 200,000 kcal/h-class wood pellet boiler. A series of numerical simulations regarding combustion load and heat transfer characteristics inside the combustion chamber of a 16 step grate-firing wood pellet boiler has been conducted. We have considered the load from 56% to 130 %. A high temperature zone is found at the entrance of the 2nd chamber for all combustion load considered. The flame is stretched to the 2nd chamber. The high temperature zone at the end chamber becomes wider and stronger for a higher load. The combustion gas flows following the partition. The high velocity region is at the exit of chamber for all combustion loads. Compared to experimental data, numerical simulations can predict the temperature distribution for partial load operation.
AAPE proliposomes for topical atopic dermatitis treatment
Jahn, Alexander,Song, Chung Kil,Balakrishnan, Prabagar,Hong, Soon-Sun,Lee, Ju-Hee,Chung, Suk-Jae,Kim, Dae-Duk Taylor & Francis 2014 Journal of microencapsulation Vol.31 No.8

Context: Anti-inflammatory effect of advanced adipose stem cell derived protein extract (AAPE) could be improved by minimising protein degradation. Objective: To develop a proliposomal formulation of AAPE for the treatment of topical atopic dermatitis. Materials and methods: Proliposomal powder was manufactured by evaporating a solution of soy phosphatidyl choline, AAPE and Poloxamer 407 in ethanol under vacuum on sorbitol powder. Characterisation of proliposomes (zeta potential, diameter, stability and flowability) as well as in vivo efficacy in a dermatitis mouse model was investigated. Results and discussion: Reconstitution of the proliposomal powder formed liposomes of 589 ± 3.6 nm diameter with zeta potential of −51.33 ± 0.36 mV. Protein stability was maintained up to 90 days at 25 °C as proliposomes. In vivo studies on atopic dermatitis mouse model showed a significant reduction in IgE levels after topical AAPE proliposome treatment. Conclusion: AAPE proliposomes maintained protein stability and showed promising results for atopic dermatitis treatment.

Cocconeis coreana and C. sijunghoensis are described as new based on micromorphological and molecular data. C. coreana is represented by five unialgal cultures from four different freshwater bodies, two from North Korea and three from South Korea. C. sijunghoensis is represented by two unialgal cultures from a brackish water body in North Korea. Except for one, all of the strains auxosporulated and showed an almost quadrupling of size in length and width. Morphologically, these species with their two different elliptical valves belong to the Cocconeis placentula group. The raphe valve has striae with uniseriate areolae continuing across a pronounced submarginal hyaline rim to the edge of the valve. The sternum valve has uniseriate dash-like areolae continuously from the valve face until the valve edge. Micromorphologically, these species possess two different open valvocopulae: only the raphe valvocopula has fimbriae; the sternum valvocopula has none. Based on p-distances of currently available DNA sequence data, i.e., rbcL and 18SV4, both species are pronouncedly different from the epitype strain of C. placentula, with C. coreana closest to the published molecular data of the strain UTEX FD23 named C. placentula from Iowa, USA, while C. sijunghoensis is closest but not the same as the published molecular data of strain D36_012, the epitype strain of C. placentula from Berlin, Germany. Based on scanning electron microscope observations, differentiating features are discussed concerning valvocopula fimbriae, central area, areolation of the sternum valve and on the raphe valve especially between the submarginal hyaline rim and edge.
Optical Interconnection and Clocking Using Planar-Integrated Free-Space Optics
Jahns, Jurgen,Gruber, Matthias,Lunitz, Barbara,Stolzle, Markus Optical Society of Korea 2003 Current Optics and Photonics Vol.7 No.1
Integration and miniaturization at the systems level are key requirements for photonics applications. Here, we describe the concept of planar integration of free-space optical systems and its use as an optical interconnection technology. Two specific applications will be considered, a parallel chip-to-chip interconnect and an optical clock distribution network.
