Analysis of Break in Presence During Game Play Using a Linear Mixed Model

Breaks in presence (BIP) are those moments during virtual environment (VE) exposure in which participants become aware of their real world setting and their sense of presence in the VE becomes disrupted. In this study, we investigate participants’ experience when they encounter technical anomalies during game play. We induced four technical anomalies and compared the BIP responses of a navigation mode game to that of a combat mode game. In our analysis, we applied a linear mixed model (LMM) and compared the results with those of a conventional regression model. Results indicate that participants felt varied levels of impact and recovery when experiencing the various technical anomalies. The impact of BIPs was clearly affected by the game mode, whereas recovery appears to be independent of game mode. The results obtained using the LMM did not differ significantly from those obtained using the general regression model; however, it was shown that treatment effects could be improved by consideration of random effects in the regression model.

We evaluated the influence of sampling technique (cannulation vs. stomach tube) and site (dorsal sac vs. ventral sac) on the rumen microbiome and fermentation parameters in Hanwoo steers. Rumen samples were collected from three cannulated Hanwoo steers via both a stomach tube and cannulation, and 16S rRNA gene amplicons were sequenced on the MiSeq platform to investigate the rumen microbiome composition among samples obtained via 1) the stomach tube, 2) dorsal sac via rumen cannulation, and 3) ventral sac via rumen cannulation. A total of 722,001 high-quality 16S rRNA gene sequences were obtained from the three groups and subjected to phylogenetic analysis. There was no significant difference in the composition of the major taxa or alpha diversity among the three groups (p> 0.05). Bacteroidetes and Firmicutes represented the first and second most dominant phyla, respectively, and their abundances did not differ among the three groups (p> 0.05). Beta diversity principal coordinate analysis also did not separate the rumen microbiome based on the three sample groups. Moreover, there was no effect of sampling site or method on fermentation parameters, including pH and volatile fatty acids (p > 0.05). Overall, this study demonstrates that the rumen microbiome and fermentation parameters are not affected by different sampling techniques and sampling sites. Therefore, a stomach tube can be a feasible alternative method to collect representative rumen samples rather than the standard and more invasive method of rumen cannulation in Hanwoo steers.

Two-dimensional (2-D) time-space diagram have been widely used to analyze the flow of the traffic. However, it has limitations to make a plan that guarantees the collision avoidance of vehicles at the intersections. In this paper, we introduce the three-dimensional (3-D) time-space diagram and demonstrate its effectiveness in describing the movements of vehicles at the intersections. We also propose an algorithm based on the grid allocation of 3-D time-space diagram to avoid collision between vehicles to achieve the autonomous intersection.
Diversity Census of Fungi in the Ruminal Microbiome

연구의 목적은 곰팡이 28S rDNA 염기서열의 메타분석을 통하여 반추위 곰팡이의 다양성을 조사하는데 있다. ‘rumen’과 ‘ruminal’이 반추위 곰팡이 유래 염기서열들을 회수하기 위한 검색어로 사용되었다. 2016년 9월부로 모든 28S rDNA 염기서열이 보관되어 있는 Ribosomal Database Project(RDP, http://rdp.cme.msu.edu) 데이터베이스에서 반추위 곰팡이 유래 28S rDNA 유전자 염기서열(n=165)을 획득하였다. 총 165개의 염기서열은 분류학상의 ‘문(phylum)’인 Ascomycota, Neocallimastigomycota 및 Basidiomycota로 분류되었고, 165개의 염기서열 중에서 각각 109개, 48개, 8개의 염기서열을 차지하였다. Ascomycota 염기서열은 식물병원성곰팡이나 마이코톡신을 생성하는 곰팡이를 포함하고 있는 ‘속 (genus)’ Pseudonectria, Magnaporthe, Alternaria, Cochliobolus, Cladosporium 및 Davidiella로 분류되었다. 또한, Basidiomycota 염기서열은 식물병원성곰팡이를 포함하고 있는 ‘속(genus)’ Thanatephorus와 Cryptococcus로 분류되었다. 뿐만 아니라, Neocallimastigomycota 염기서열의 경우 섭취된 조사료의 주요 구조탄수화물을 분해하는 ‘속(genus)’ Cyllamyces, Neocallimastix, Anaeromyces, Caecomyces, Orpinomyces, Piromyces로 분류되었다. 본 연구는 처음으로 28S rDNA 염기서열의 메타분석을 통해 반추위 곰팡이 다양성에 대한 정보를 통합적으로 제공하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 향후 반추위 곰팡이 연구에 대한 방향을 제공할 것이고, 새로운 분석도구 개발에 응용될 수 있을 것이다. This study was designed to examine the diversity census of fungi in rumen microbiome via meta-analysis of fungal 28S rDNA sequences. Both terms, "rumen" and "ruminal," were searched to retrieve the sequences of rumen fungi. As of September 2016, these sequences (n=165) of ruminal origin were retrieved from the Ribosomal Database Project (RDP; http://rdp.cme.msu.edu), an archive of all 28S rDNA sequences and were assigned to the phyla Ascomycota, Neocallimastigomycota, and Basidiomycota, which accounted for 109, 48, and 8 of the 165 sequences, respectively. Ascomycota sequences were assigned to the genera Pseudonectria, Magnaporthe, Alternaria, Cochliobolus, Cladosporium, and Davidiella, including fungal plant pathogens or mycotoxigenic species. Moreover, Basidiomycota sequences were assigned to the genera Thanatephorus and Cryptococcus, including fungal plant pathogens. Furthermore, Neocallimastigomycota sequences were assigned to the genera Cyllamyces, Neocallimastix, Anaeromyces, Caecomyces, Orpinomyces, and Piromyces, which may degrade the major structural carbohydrates of the ingested plant material. This study provided a collective view of the rumen fungal diversity using a meta-analysis of 28S rDNA sequences. The present results will provide a direction for further studies on ruminal fungi and be applicable to the development of new analytic tools.
Characteristics of Scattered Rays Depending on the Use of a Flattening Filter

본 연구는 선형가속기를 이용한 방사선 조사에서 선속평탄 여과판 사용 유무에 따른 산란선을 측정하고자 한다. 산란선 측정은 전리함을 사용하였으며, 조사한 방사선의 에너지는 6 MV와 10 MV이다. 갠트리 회전 중심에서 전리함을 15, 25, 35, 45 cm 거리에 위치시키고 선속평탄 여과판 사용 유무와 거리에 따른 산란선을 측정하였다. 각각의 에너지에 대하여 100 cGy 조사한 결과 6 MV에서 선속평탄 여과판을 사용하지 않은 것에서 65% 정도로 낮게 발생되었고, 10 MV 에서는 55% 정도로 낮게 발생되었다. 즉, 방사선 치료에서 결정 장기 주변의 선량은 선속평탄 여과판을 사용하지 않을 때 산란선이 적게 발생되어 방사선에 대한 확률적인 영향을 줄이기 위한 유용한 방법으로 판단되어진다. This Study aims at measuring scattered rays depending on the use of a flattening filter when radiation is irradiated using a linear accelerator. measurement of the scattered rays, an ionization chamber was used, and the energy of the irradiated radiation was 6 MV and 10 MV. The ionization chamber was located at the spot 15 cm, 25 cm, 35 cm and 45 cm far away from the center of gantry rotation, and the scattered rays were measured according to whether a flattening filter was used or not and to the distance. As the result of investigation of 100cGy about each energy, when the flattening filter was not used with 6 MV, it occurred at a low level of 65%, and with 10 MV at that of 55%. In other words, it's been concluded that when a flattening filter is not used for radiation dose of the parts around the critical organ, scattered rays generate in a small quantity, and it's a useful way to decrease the stochastic effect of radiation.
