Peri-implantitis is the inflammatory process, such as edema, bleeding, pus, of the mucosa surrounding dental implants. As the symptoms become severe, the surrounding bone is absorbed causing the implant surface to be exposed. Clinicians treat periimplantitis in various ways since a gold standard for the treatment of peri-implantitis has not been established. Various treatment methods include mechanical, chemical surface treatment and surgical excision, and recently decontamination of the implant surface using various types of lasers has been proposed. Thus, this study reviews the types of lasers and its effects that can be used for the treatment of peri-implantitis.

Kole's Anterior segmental osteotomy of the mandible is commonly used to close an anterior open bite, to depress an elevated anterior dentoalveolar segment, or to retrude or advance a dentoalveolar segment. The procedure is often combined with an anterior maxillary segmental osteotomy to correct bimaxillary protrusion. We report 53-year-old woman who the extruded state of mandibular anterior alveolar segment was corrected using an mandibular anterior alveolar segmental osteotomy and dental implantation of the anterior maxilla. We planned to remove the old prosthesis, and then perform an anterior mandibular segmental osteotomy and implant restoration of the anterior maxilla. We suggest that anterior segmental osteotomy is very useful for rehabilitating edentulous patients with malaligned alveolar segment.
Prognosis of Maxillary Sinus Augmentation in the Presence of Antral Pseudocyst

Purpose: Antral pseudocyst is a common benign lesion that exists in the maxillary sinus. Because of this possible complication, controversy remains with respect to sinus floor elevation operations. The purpose of this study was to analyze the antral pseudocyst related to maxillary sinus augmentation. Patients and Methods: The radiographs of 268 patients who visited Chosun University Dental Hospital from 2008 to 2010 and underwent the maxillary bone grafting procedure were examined. Results: Of the 268 patients who underwent the maxillary bone grafting procedure, 5 patients (1.86%) were diagnosed with antral pseudocysts. In all cases, maxillary sinus floor elevation was performed without aspiration, biopsy or extraction of the antral pseudocyst. Conclusion: Antral pseudocysts are not considered a contraindication for maxillary sinus bone grafting procedure.

The purpose of the present study was to review the retromandibular approach for surgical treatment of condylar fractures.Indications, advantages and disadvantages, surgical anatomy, complications, and various modifications of the retromandibular approach for treatment of condylar fractures were investigated through an article review. The retromandibular approach is useful when endoscopic-assisted intraoral open reduction or internal fixation is not possible due to the fracture site or degree of displacement. The retromandibular approach also permits direct exposure of the ramus since it is closer and does not cause remarkable scars. Complications related to the retromandibular approach include facial nerve injury, sialocele, salivary fistula, scar, and preauricular hypoesthesia. However, the morbidity of complications is low compared to other extraoral approaches. There are various modifications of the retromandibular approach such as the anteroparotid transmasseteric approach, the retroparotid approach, the mini-retromandibular approach, which minimizes potential injury to facial nerves and salivary complications, as well as the transparotid approach. The retromandibular approach provides good access with low morbidity. Open reduction and internal fixation of condylar fractures using the retromandibular approach is a recommended procedure

The aim of the present study was to review bisphosphonate osteonecrosis of the jaws (BRONJ). Bisphosphonate, pathophysiology, risk factors, staging, clinical manifestation, treatments, and prevention of BRONJ were investigated through a literature search. Bisphosphonates are a group of drugs that treat diseases related to bone resorption such as Paget`s disease, osteoporosis, and osseous metastases. BRONJ is defined as exposure and necrosis of bone in the oral cavity for at least 8 weeks in patients receiving bisphosphonate and with no history of radiotherapy of the jaws. Many articles have reported risk factors associated with BRONJ such as systemic diseases, oral infection, poor oral hygiene, and intraoral trauma. The objectives of BRONJ treatment are to minimize necrosis and relieve symptoms. Many treatments are suggested from conservative treatment to radical intervention, but this remains controversial. BRONJ remains a difficult condition to treat although many studies are being carried out.

Several methods for sinus lifting have been developed for implant installation on the maxillary posterior edentulous area with an alveolar bony defect. The major complication for sinus lifting is sinus membrane perforation, and the crestal approach technique has drawbacks that make it impossible to directly ascertain membrane perforation. Lately, the hydraulic pressure technique was developed for prevention of sinus membrane perforation as well as to obtain an ideal shape of the bone graft material. For sinus lifting, this method reveals a lower part of the membrane using a specially designed drill that elevates the membrane using hydraulic pressure. This method enables the operator to elevate the sinus membrane and bone graft regularly. In this study, morphologic analysis was performed with computed tomography to evaluate the peri-implant bony shape after sinus lifting with a sinus lift drill using hydraulic pressure.

Objective: The aim is to evaluate the potential of the mesiodens through the comparative inorganic analysis of 3rd molar teeth prior to clinical study. Material and methods: The extracted mesiodens and the 3rd molar teeth were prepared. The teeth are prepared as in the process of the autogenous tooth bone graft. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis was performed for inorganic analysis. Results: Rough and porous surfaces were observed in all materials in SEM analysis. Ca/P ratio of mesiodens was 1.55 and the 3rd molar was 1.22 in EDS analysis. XRD analysis shows that the 3 main peaks position were similar. This means that the graft materials are very similar to that of the crystallinity. Conclusions: The mesiodens and the 3rd molar teeth are very similar to the inorganic component. These results provide the reasonable rationale that mesiodens can be used as autogenous tooth bone graft in a clinic.

BSSRO (bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy) is frequently performed to correct dentofacial deformity and malocclusion. Among its complications the incidence of post-operative facial nerve palsy is very rare, but it is one of the most serious complications. The case of a 21-year-old male patient who underwent facial nerve palsy after BSSRO is described. After surgical intervention and conservative therapy, the patient recovered his facial nerve function successfully.
