PRACTICAL EVALUATIONS OF PARASITIC RESONANT PWM DC-DC CONVERTERS FOR HIGH-POWER MEDICAL USE

This paper presents a novel non-resonant PWM DC-DC converter for X-ray high-voltage power generator using the parasitic impedances of the high-voltage high-frequency link transformer with its output high-voltage control scheme and steady-state characteristics compared to the conventional series-parallel resonant DC-DC converter The key point of this approach is to evaluate effectiveness of reduction of the turn ratio of the high-voltage high-frequency transformer on improvements in power conversion efficiency and the power factor applying a boost AC-DC converter as DC voltage source, especially in the long exposure term and light output load ranges.

<P><B>Objective:</B></P><P>To evaluate the vascular response at 9 months after zotarolimus-eluting stent (ZES; Endeavor) implantation using optical coherence tomography (OCT). These findings were compared with those after implantation of a sirolimus-eluting stent (SES; Cypher Select).</P><P><B>Design:</B></P><P>Cross-sectional observational study with prospective OCT registry.</P><P><B>Setting:</B></P><P>Nine months after ZES or SES implantation.</P><P><B>Patients and methods:</B></P><P>A total of 68 patients (32 ZES and 36 SES) underwent OCT at 9 months after stent implantation. The neointima hyperplasia (NIH) thickness inside each strut and percentage of NIH area at every 1 mm cross section were measured.</P><P><B>Main outcome measurement:</B></P><P>The degree of neointimal coverage and the prevalence of malapposition at 9 months after ZES and SES implantation using OCT.</P><P><B>Results:</B></P><P>The mean (SD) NIH thickness (251.2 (110.0) μm vs 85.5 (53.3) μm, p<0.001) and percentage of NIH area (27.9 (9.1)% vs 11.2 (7.1)%, p<0.001) were significantly greater in ZES than in SES. The prevalence of uncovered strut as well as malapposed strut was significantly lower in ZES than in SES (0.3% vs 12.3%, p<0.001 and 0.08% vs 2.6%, p<0.001). Thrombus was not observed in ZES (0.0% in ZES vs 27.8% in SES, p = 0.001).</P><P><B>Conclusions:</B></P><P>Neointimal coverage in ZES was almost complete and malapposition was very rare at 9-months’ follow-up.</P>

The anisotropic properties in the magnetization and the magneto-optics of Zn1-xCoxO were investigated. Magnetization and the magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) measurements were performed on Zn1-xCoxO films (x ≤ 0.15) with dierent growth orientations of the c- and the a-axes, which were grown on c- and r-surface sapphire substrates, respectively, by using pulsed laser deposition. In the magnetization measurements, only paramagnetic behaviors were observed down to 2 K, both in the c- and the a-plane films. In the magnetization and the MCD measurements on c- and a-plane films, the magnitudes of the magnetizations and the MCD intensities of the peak due to the d - d transition of Co2+ ions were found to exhibited similar anisotropic properties; those under magnetic fields along the a-axis of the wurtizte crystal were always larger than those under fields along the c-axis. These observations indicate that the paramagnetic behaviors observed both in the magnetization and the MCD are due to the intrinsic nature of the pure diluted phase of Zn1-xCoxO. A Novel Digital Soft-Start Circuit for DC-DC Converter

This paper proposes a novel quick soft-start method for the digital control dc-dc converter. To implement the energy management for energy saving, the power supply that can be operated in start-up and be shuttled down quickly and continually is necessary. It is the power supply added to the soft-start capability. It is important for the soft-start operation to detect the load resistor. In the conventional analog control method, the fixed large time constant of the soft?start circuit must be set corresponding to the worth condition. In the proposed digital control, the optimal time constant of the soft-start circuit can be decided with load resistor with the control processor. Therefore, it doesn’t need to set the large value for the time constant. As a result, the convergence time of output voltage is suppressed. From simulation results, it is confirmed that the digital control method has superior soft-start characteristics compared to the analog one and the convergence time of output voltage is approximately 94% smaller than the analog one.
Generation of monoclonal antibodies specific for ORF68 of koi herpesvirus

Outbreaks of koi herpesvirus (KHV) infection in carp are still a serious problem worldwide. KHV is closely related to other two cyprinid herpesviruses, pox herpesvirus (CHV) and haematopoietic necrosis herpesvirus (CyHV-2) in goldfish. In this study, two major KHV antigenic proteins (ORF62 and ORF68) were identified by immunoscreening using a KHV-specific polyclonal antibody, and then monoclonal antibodies were generated for immunodiagnostic studies. After screening hybridoma cells, one mAb against ORF68 (mAb-7C6) was obtained but no mAbs against ORF62. mAb-7C6 specifically reacted with a lysate of KHV-infected koi fin cells (KF-1 cells) but not with lysates of CHV- or CyHV-2-infected KF-1 cells in an immuno-blotting analysis. Similar results were shown in the following tests: (1) a indirect fluorescent antibody test using infected KF-1 cells and (2) an immunohistochemical investigation by fast red stain (infected liver) or FITC detection (infected spleen). These results suggested that mAb-7C6 specifically reacts with KHV ORF68 protein.
