      • Bag Carrying Method during Level Walking Affects Perceived Exertion Ratings without Altering Energy Cost, Oxygen Consumption, and Heart Rate in Healthy Adults: A Randomized Crossover Trial

        Objectives: Little is known regarding the associations between Borg’s rating of perceived exertion (RPE), cardiopulmonary responses, and carrying bags while level walking. We investigated the changes in RPE and cardiopulmonary responses, including energy cost (EC), oxygen consumption (VdotO₂), and heart rate (HR), when walking with a bag. Methods: This randomized crossover study included 10 healthy adults (aged 21–22 years). Four days of experiments were performed at intervals of 1–2 weeks. The participants walked on a level treadmill while carrying a bag with a strap weighting 5 kg, placed diagonally on their shoulders (DS), vertically on their shoulders (VS), vertically in one hand (VH), and on their backs using both shoulders (BS) for 20 min. Walking speed was stable among all experiments, and was set to the participants’ preferred speed. Results: No significant differences between bag carrying methods regarding EC, VdotO₂, and %HRreserve (based on HR) were observed, whereas RPE respiratory (RPE-resp) and RPE leg muscle (RPE-leg) scores varied based on bag carrying method used. RPE-resp score was significantly lower for DS and BS than VH (both p < 0.0083); however, no significant difference was observed when each RPE-leg score was compared. Conclusions: We found that RPE-resp score varied, whereas no changes in EC, VdotO₂, and HR were observed in healthy adults while walking with different bag carrying methods. Additionally, of all bag carrying methods assessed, the highest RPE-resp score was observed when individuals carried a bag with one-hand at their side.

      • Application Examples of CFD at the Planning Stage of High-Rise Buildings

        Application examples of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) in the planning stage of high-rise buildings are introduced. First, we introduce examples of applications in the environmental field. The pedestrian wind environment was one of the earliest practical examples of CFD. CFD was also employed to validate the heat island mitigation measures proposed as part of the new construction plan. Second, application examples of wind-force evaluations are introduced. Prediction examples are presented for the peak wind pressure around a complex-shaped building and the wind force evaluation for a base-isolated building. The results prove that the results of the proper execution of CFD are equivalent to those of the wind tunnel experiment. As examples of CFD applications of other issues related to high-rise building planning, we introduce snow accretion on outer walls and high-temperature exhaust from emergency generators. Finally, the future prospects for the use of CFD are discussed.

        朝鮮文化史論 収録の「沈清傳」研究 - 「ちくふしまのほんし」と 朝鮮童話集 収録の「沈清傳」との比較を通して

        조선문화사론 수록 「심청전」에서는 아버지가 조선동화집 수록 「심청전」의 아버지와 비교하면 결말에서 매우 비참해지는 장면이 존재했다. 또 조선문화사론 수록 「심청전」에서는 아버지와 심청이 결말에 재회했을 때 서로 눈물을 흘리는 장면이 존재했다. 이러한 장면들이 존재함으로써 조선문화사론 수록 「신세이덴」은 결말에서 독자들에게 극적인 느낌을 주는 점과 독자들을 감격하게 하는 점이 조선동화집 수록 「심청전」보다 강화된 작품이라 하겠다. 또한 조선문화사론 수록 「심청전」은 작품 전체를 통해서 <지쿠후시마노혼시>에 비해 효행의 중요성을 강조하지 않았으며 적극적으로 효행의 장려도 하지 않았다. 한편 조선동화집 수록 「심청전」에서는 심청의 효행에 신(神) 적인 존재가 호감을 느끼고 심청을 돕는 내용이 존재함으로써 조선동화집 수록 「심청전」은 효행의 소중함과 위대함을 효과적으로 강조하고 있다. 그러나 조선문화사론 수록 「심청전」에는 이러한 내용이 전혀 존재하지 않으며, 만약 이러한 내용이 있었다면 조선문화사론 수록 「심청전」은 보다 효과적으로 효행의 소중함과 위대함을 강조할 수 있었을 것이다. 실제로 두 작품을 읽고 비교해봐도 조선문화사론 수록 「심청전」은 조선동화집 수록 「심청전」에 비하여 적극적으로 효행의 중요함을 강조하지 않았다. 위와 같이 조선문화사론 수록 「심청전」, 「지쿠후시마노혼시」, 조선동화집 수록 「심청전」 중에서 조선문화사론 수록 「심청전」이 '효행의 소중함'을 가장 강조하지 않았다. 조선문화사론 수록 「심청전」은 효행의 장려(奨励)를 강하게 하지 않은 이유로, 조선문화사론 수록 「심청전」의 번역자가 한국 '심청전 이야기'의 특징을 '효행을 강하게 장려한 작품'으로 인식하지 않았기 때문이다. At the end of the story, There were scenes where the father who appeared in 「Chinseiden」 in the Book of Joseon Cultural History was much more miserable than the father who appeared in 「Chinseiden」 in the Book of The Fairy Tales of Chosŏn . Also, at the end of the story, Chinsei is reunited with his father, who appears in 「Chinseiden」 in the Book of Joseon Cultural History . At that time, there was a scene where both my father and Chinse shed tears. The presence of these scenes at the conclusion makes 「Chinseiden」 in the Book of Joseon Cultural History more dramatic and inspiring to readers than 「Chinseiden」 in the Book of The Fairy Tales of Chosŏn . Also, 「Chinseiden」 in the Book of Joseon Cultural History did not emphasize the importance of filial piety compared to 「chikufushimanohonshi」. Also, 「Chinseiden」 in the Book of Joseon Cultural History did not encourage filial piety more strongly than 「chikufushimanohonshi」. On the other hand, in 「Chinseiden」 in the Book of The Fairy Tales of Chosŏn , divine beings were impressed by Chinsei's filial piety. And a divine person helped Chinsei. The presence of such content effectively emphasizes the importance and greatness of filial piety in 「Chinseiden」 in the Book of The Fairy Tales of Chosŏn . However, 「Chinseiden」 in the Book of Joseon Cultural History has no such content at all. If 「Chinseiden」 in the Book of Joseon Cultural History had such content, it would have effectively emphasized the importance and greatness of filial piety In fact, even if you compare the two works 「Chinseiden」 in the Book of Joseon Cultural History is considered to be a work that has significantly less encouraging filial piety than 「Chinseiden」 in the Book of The Fairy Tales of Chosŏn. As above, Among 「Chinseiden」 in the Book of Joseon Cultural History , 「chikufushimanohonshi」, and 「Chinseiden」 in the Book of The Fairy Tales of Chosŏn , 「Chinseiden」 in the Book of Joseon Cultural History did not emphasize ‘the importance of filial piety’ the most. 「Chinseiden」 in the Book of Joseon Cultural History does not strongly ‘encourage filial piety’. The reason for this is that the translator of 「Chinseiden」 in the Book of Joseon Cultural History did not recognize the characteristics of the Korean ‘Sim Cheongjeon Story’ as ‘a work that strongly encourages filial piety’.

      • The Analysis of characteristics on conventional and novel flyback converter with Leakage-Inductance

        Static and dynamic characteristics of both the novel flyback converter proposed before and the conventional one are analyzed including the effect of transformer leakage inductances, and the results are confirmed experimentally. The leakage inductances make the current-commutation periods increase. As a result, the voltage conversion ratio is decreased from the static viewpoint, and the damping factor in dynamics is increased. Therefore, the existence of leakage inductances deteriorates the energy-transfer process, and on the other hand, makes the converter dynamics more stable.

      • Experimental Study of Wing-Wake Interactions of Insect Flapping Wing

        An experimental study is conducted to investigate wing-wake interactions of a flapping wing of an insect in hovering and forward flight. Unsteady aerodynamic forces acting on a flapping wing are measured using a dynamically scaled mechanical model in a water tunnel, which simulates hovering and forward flapping flight of insects. In addition, flow visualization is made around the scaled flapping wing model using digital particle image velocimetry (DPIV). A flapping wing experiences wing-wake interaction that the wing interacts with the wake induced in the previous stroke, called wake capture. We investigate effects of parameters of a flapping wing on the wake capture. The results indicate that the wake capture is principally dependent on the two parameters: reduced frequency and timing of feathering rotation. And the flow visualization shows that the vortex pair with counter-rotating, which induces a strong jet flow between the two vortices themselves, enhances wake capture effect. The wake capture effect in forward flight appears in a different manner from in hovering flight. While the wake capture is more effective in the stroke reversal from the down- to up-stroke, it is slight effective in the stroke reversal from the up- to down-stroke.
