Two new species, Stericta jaeshini Kim & Bae, sp. nov. and S. atroaurantiaca Kim & Bae, sp. nov. are described from Laos and Cambodia. About 50 species of the genus Stericta have been recorded from Southeast Asia, but it has not been recorded to occur in Laos and Cambodia previously. We record the presence of this genus in these two countries for the first time in this study. Illustrations of adults and genitalia of examined species are provided.
Intense Walking Exercise Affects Serum IGF-1 and IGFBP3
Kim, TaeHo,Chang, Jae Seung,Kim, Hanul,Lee, Kwang Ho,Kong, In Deok Yonsei University Wonju College of Medicine 2015 Journal of lifestyle medicine Vol.5 No.1

Background

Insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1) is associated with chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and hypertension, as well as muscle dysfunction. Previous studies of exercise interventions yield controversial results regarding plasma IGF-1, IGFBP3, and IGF-1/IGFBP3 ratio. In this study, we examined whether 100 km walking exercise affects serum levels of IGF-1 and IGFBP3 and IGF-1/IGFBP3 ratio. We also investigated several metabolic-related blood parameters before and after walking.

Methods

Participants were 14 healthy middle aged men (41.0 ± 6.78 years of age). We assessed body composition and measured metabolic-related blood indicators, such as such as lipid profiles, glucose, renal and hepatic metabolic bio-markers before and after a 100 km walking race. Blood samples from all participants were taken before and immediately after the walkathon. We also analyzed serum levels of IGF-1 and IGFBP3, and calculated the IGF-1/IGFBP3 ratio.

Results

After participants completed a 100 km walking race, some of their metabolic profiles were markedly changed. Serum levels of IGF-1 and IGFBP3 were significantly decreased, and therefore the IGF-1/IGFBP3 ratio also decreased before and after 100 km of walking.

Conclusion

Our results indicate that intense walking exercise affects serum levels of IGF-1 and IGFBP3 as well as metabolic bio-markers including high density cholesterol, glucose and triglycerides.

We report spatially resolved Raman scattering from Si-doped epitaxial laterally overgrown GaN structures to investigate spatial variations in stress and free electron concentration. The doping-induced increase in the free electron concentration is relatively higher in the laterally overgrown regions than in the coherently grown regions due to the increased contribution of the high-energy A1 longitudinal optical phononeplasmon coupled mode. In addition, the E2(high) [E2(low)] phonon energy shifts downward (upward) more significantly in the laterally overgrown regions than in the coherently grown regions. The doping-induced Raman shifts of the E2(high) and E2(low) phonons in the laterally overgrown regions are approximately 0.6 and 0.11 cm1, respectively, corresponding to the in-plane stress of w0.22 GPa.
Taxonomic study of subfamily Epipaschiinae (Lepidoptera, Pyralidae) in Korea
Hanul Kim,Ulziijargal Bayarsaikhan,Chang-Moon Jang,Jeong-Nam Kim,Seokhoon Choi,Yang-Seop Bae 한국응용곤충학회 2023 한국응용곤충학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2023 No.10
The subfamily Epipaschiinae belongs to the family Pyralidae in the superfamily Pyraloidea. Moths of the epipaschiine are mostly medium-sized, and around 705 species have been described worldwide, with most of them distributed in Tropical and Temperate Regions (Nuss et al., 2023). In this study, 24 species of 10 genera of the subfamily Epipaschiinae are identified. All of the species are accompanied by distributions, host plants, and collection site information. Illustrations of adults, male and female genitalia are provided.
