The strength of material is scattered owing to the inhomogenity of microstructure, in spite of the same material. Therefore, in order to design the mechanical structure with the reliability engineering, it is important to grasp the statistical nature of material strength. In this paper, effects of grain sezes for the statistical nature of the fatigue crack growth was discussed. And the statistical nature of mechanical properties was compared with the statistical nature of the fatigue crack growth rate.

Marine propeller is one of the most important element of ship, it must be taken care of design and maintenance of it. It is inevitable that corrosion pits have occurred on the marine propeller. If corrosion pits have occurred on the blades, they have been repaired ordinary by simple welding methods in shipyards. It must be that the strength is degraded in this process. In this paper, we represent the improvement method of fatigue strength degraded after repairing pits.

Engineering materials have been studied and developed remarkably for a long time. But, few reports about marine propeller materials are presented. Recently, some researchers have studied the material strength of marine propellers. However, studies on parametric sensitivity and probabilistic distribution of fatigue life of propeller materials have not been made yet. In this study, a method to predict the probabilistic distributions of fatigue life of propeller materials is presented, and the influence of several parameters on the life distribution is discussed.

Put Many researchers have made much progress in studying an estimate for fracture probability of brittle materials. However, studies of the fracture probability for the elastic-plasticity have not been made yet. An estimate method for fracture probability which is grafted onto 2-parameter criterion and statistical probability analysis is not only introduced in this study, but also applied to the simple 2-dimensional model and carbon steel piping to evaluate the effect of random variable.

To simulate the real molding conditions, the effects of phase change and compressibility of the resin were considered in the present investigation. A modified Cross model with either an Arrhenius-type or WLF-type functional form was used for modeling viscosity of the resin. A double-domain Tait equation of state was employed to describe the compressibility of the resin during molding. The energy balance equation including latent-heat dissipation for semi-crystalline materials was solved in order to predict the solidified layer and temperature profile. Injection molding experiments were carried out using polypropylene(PP) in the present study. Based on the comparison between experiments and simulations, it was found out the predicted pressure distributions and melt front propagations were accurate. Thus it was concluded that the program developed in this study was proved to be useful in simulations of injection molding process.
