Objectives This study was conducted to derive consensus about physical attributes in pressure pulse waveform and pulse conditions by Delphi study. Methods Delphi research was conducted for 2 rounds via e-mail. 8 Professors who lecture on a diagnostics of K. M. from the society of Korean medicine diagnostics were participated in this survey. They were asked for answering about series of definition for a physical attribute in pressure pulse waveform and combination for physical attributes of pulse conditions. Results 4 survey items were decided to have high validity and 9 survey items were decided to come to consensus about a physical attribute in pressure pulse waveform. 6 pulse condition were decided to come to consensus. Conclusion Using Delphi method, physical attributes in pressure pulse waveform and combinations of physical attribute in pulse condition come to consensus.
Successful mitral repair in dogs by mitral annuloplasty using Hegar dilator: two case reports

Mitral regurgitation (MR) is the most common heart disease in small-breed dogs. Mitral repair, which comprise artificial chorda tendineae implantation and mitral annuloplasty, has become the mainstay of treatment in the veterinary field. We report on two small dogs who underwent mitral repair surgery for MR. A Hegar dilator was used during mitral annuloplasty for accurate and reproducible surgery. In both cases, mitral regurgitant flow almost disappeared after surgery, and clinical signs improved. The treatment regimen was terminated 3 months after the surgery. We concluded that using a Hegar dilator may facilitate mitral valve repair surgery.
Treatment of pancreatic pseudocyst with omentalization in a dog

The pathogenesis of pancreatic pseudocyst is still not understood. A 5-year-old, 24-kg intact female Shetland Sheepdog was presented with anorexia and vomiting. Diagnostic imaging tests revealed that the left limb of the pancreas was thickened and contained two cystic lesions ($6.3{\times}5.6{\times}4cm^3$ and $3.5{\times}4.6{\times}5.5cm^3$). During the laparotomy, lesions were opened with de-roofing of superabundant tissue, and omentalization was performed. The dog recovered uneventfully after surgery and was discharged on postoperative day 12. Histopathologically, it was diagnosed as chronic pancreatic pseudocyst. This case report describes the diagnosis and successful omentalization of pancreatic pseudocysts in a dog.

<P><B>Background</B></P><P> The aims of this study were to investigate the relationships between tongue features and the existence of menstrual pain and to provide basic information regarding the changes in tongue features during a menstrual cycle.</P><P><B> Methods</B></P><P> This study was conducted at the Kyung Hee University Medical Center. Forty-eight eligible participants aged 20 to 29 years were enrolled and assigned to two groups according to their visual analogue scale (VAS) scores. Group A included 24 females suffering from primary dysmenorrhea (PD) caused by qi stagnation and blood stasis syndrome with VAS ≥ 4. In contrast, Group B included 24 females with few premenstrual symptoms and VAS < 4. All participants completed four visits (menses-follicular-luteal-menses phases), and the tongue images were taken by using a computerized tongue image analysis system (CTIS).</P><P><B> Results</B></P><P> The results revealed that the tongue coating color value and the tongue coating thickness in the PD group during the menstrual phase were significantly lower than those of the control group (<I>P</I> = 0.031 and <I>P</I> = 0.029, resp.).</P><P><B> Conclusions</B></P><P> These results suggest that the tongue features obtained from the CTIS may serve as a supplementary means for the differentiation of syndromes and the evaluation of therapeutic effect and prognosis in PD.</P><P><B> Trial Registration</B></P><P> This trial was registered with Clinical Research Information Service, registration number KCT0001604, registered on 27 August 2015.</P>
Pseudohyperkalemia after total splenectomy in a dog: a case report

A 16-year-old, 7.4 kg, castrated male Cocker Spaniel presenting anorexia and weight loss was referred due to a splenic mass, and total splenectomy was performed to resolve clinical signs. Following surgery, the dog developed mild hyperkalemia (6.27 mmol/L) without any clinical symptoms. Further investigations were conducted to determine the cause of hyperkalemia. The serum-plasma potassium difference was measured (1.05 mmol/L), and pseudohyperkalemia was diagnosed. The cause of pseudohyperkalemia was considered as thrombocytosis after splenectomy. The dog did not receive any specific treatment to lower blood potassium. To our knowledge, we report the first case of post-splenectomy pseudohyperkalemia in a dog.

Ten cadavers were studied to compare the accessibility of cervical vertebral canal with conventional standard ventral slot and modified slanted ventral slot. One group performed standard ventral slot procedures at the C3-4, C5-6. The other group performed modified slanted ventral slot with inverted cone technique procedures at the C3-4, C5-6 computed tomography was performed before and after surgery. The accessibility of cervical vertebral canal with conventional standard ventral slot and modified slanted ventral slot using computed tomography in C3-4 and C5-6 intervertebral space was compared. Although smaller ostectomy was performed in the modified slanted ventral slot, some lesions were more accessible but limitations were obvious in C3-4 and C5-6 intervertebral disk space. After the disc material has been identified through accurate preoperative diagnostic imaging, less morbidity and complications can be expected if the appropriate surgical method is selected based on the lesion of compression.

Effect of xenogenic cortical bone on fracture healing in a canine fracture model.

<P>The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of xenogenic cortical bone (XCB) on fracture repair in the canine ulna. The entire group of animals (n = 12) had a transverse resection of 5 mm length at the middle part of the right ulnar diaphysis. In Group A (eight beagles), the fracture was treated with XCB and metal bone screw. In Group B (four beagles), the fracture was treated with metal bone plate and screw. Radiological, micro-computed tomography (micro-CT), histological examination and mechanical testing were employed to evaluate bone healing and reaction of XCB in the host bone. In Group A, bone union was noticed in 6 out of 8 dogs (75%), starting from the 4th week onwards. Micro-CT and histological examinations showed that the XCB was absorbed and incorporated into the host bone. Incorporation of XCB was observed in 7 cases (88%); it started from the 10th week onwards and continued to week 32 after surgery. Biomechanical strength of the bone fracture site was higher in Group A than in Group B, and was similar to that of normal bone. XCB enhances the bone healing process and can be used as absorbable internal fixation for the management of long bone fractures in dogs.</P>
Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica infections in eastern great egrets (Ardea alba modesta)

Five eastern great egrets with a history of ataxia, wry neck, and wet feathers were submitted to the Veterinary Diagnostic Center for pathologic examination. Slightly enlarged livers with diffuse white-grayish nodules were observed. Microscopically, the hepatic and lung parenchyma contained granulomatous lesions consisting of central necrosis. Some hearts showed myofiber necrosis with infiltration of histiocytes and heterophils. Partial 16SrRNA and gyrB gene sequences of all isolates showed high similarities (99-100%) to those of Salmonella (S.) enterica subsp. enterica. Based on pathological and molecular biological results, S. enterica subsp. enterica systemic infections were diagnosed in eastern great egrets of Korea.
