Preparation of IrO2 Thin Films by MOCVD Using Ir(EtCp)(CHD)

We report on MOCVD of IrO2 thin lms by using liquid Ir precursor, Ir(EtCp)(CHD). IrO2 lms were successfully grown on SiO2/Si, Ti/SiO2/Si and Pb(Zr,Ti)O3/Pt/SiO2/Si at 400C and oxygen concentration of as high as 77 %. IrO2 lms prepared on SiO2/Si with and without surfaceoxidizedIr seeds exhibited an electrical resistivity of 103 cm, and a root-mean-square surface roughness of 5 nm. IrO2 lms showed step coverages of 40-50%on SiO2-stepped substrate with L/S (line and space) of 0.7/3.6 and 1.4/2.9 m.

<P>To identify transcriptional profiles predictive of the clinical benefit of cisplatin and fluorouracil (CF) chemotherapy to gastric cancer patients, endoscopic biopsy samples from 96 CF-treated metastatic gastric cancer patients were prospectively collected before therapy and analyzed using high-throughput transcriptional profiling and array comparative genomic hybridization. Transcriptional profiling identified 917 genes that are correlated with poor patient survival after CF at <I>P</I><0.05 (poor prognosis signature), in which protein synthesis and DNA replication/recombination/repair functional categories are enriched. A survival risk predictor was then constructed using genes, which are included in the <I>poor prognosis signature</I> and are contained within identified genomic amplicons. The combined expression of three genes—<I>MYC</I>, <I>EGFR</I> and <I>FGFR2</I>—was an independent predictor for overall survival of 27 CF-treated patients in the validation set (adjusted <I>P</I>=0.017), and also for survival of 40 chemotherapy-treated gastric cancer patients in a published data set (adjusted <I>P</I>=0.026). Thus, combined expression of <I>MYC</I>, <I>EGFR</I> and <I>FGFR2</I> is predictive of poor survival in CF-treated metastatic gastric cancer patients.</P>
Study of Neutron Capture Reactions Using the 4π Ge Spectrometer

The 4π Ge spectrometer composed of 22-30 Ge detectors was developed, and it has been used to study neutron capture reactions with a neutron time-of-flight (TOF) technique. Since the distances between the sample position and the Ge detectors are variable, it can be used as a multifunctional spectrometer. At first, it was used as a sum energy spectrometer, and resonances in ^(nat)Ag were identified as those of ^(1070Ag or ^(109)Ag. In second, it was used to deduce γ-ray intensity distribution for each resonance, and the results for ^(238)U were presented. In third, it was used to measure neutron capture cross sections of minor actinides and fission products at the electron linear accerelator facility of KURRI and at the accurate neutron-nucleus reaction measurement instrument (ANNRI) in MLF of J-PARC The preliminary results are discussed mainly based on measurements of neutron capture cross section for ^(241)Am, together with related techniques.

Background/Aims Gastroparesis is identified as a subject that is understudied in Asia. The scientific committee of the Asian Neurogastroenterology and Motility Association performed a Knowledge, Attitude, and Practices survey on gastroparesis among doctors in Asia. Methods The questionnaire was created and developed through a literature review of current gastroparesis works of literature by the scientific committee of Asian Neurogastroenterology and Motility Association. Results A total of 490 doctors from across Asia (including Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam) participated in the survey. Gastroparesis is a significant gastrointestinal condition. However, a substantial proportion of respondents was unable to give the correct definition and accurate diagnostic test. The main reason for lack of interest in diagnosing gastroparesis was “the lack of reliable diagnostic tests” (46.8%) or “a lack of effective treatment” (41.5%). Only 41.7% of respondents had access to gastric emptying scintigraphy. Most doctors had never diagnosed gastroparesis at all (25.2%) or diagnosed fewer than 5 patients a year (52.1%). Conclusions Gastroparesis can be challenging to diagnose due to the lack of instrument, standardized method, and paucity of research data on normative value, risk factors, and treatment studies in Asian patients. Future strategies should concentrate on how to disseminate the latest knowledge of gastroparesis in Asia. In particular, there is an urgent need to estimate the magnitude of the problems in high risk and idiopathic patients as well as a standardized diagnostic procedure in Asia. A 4πLaBr_3(Ce) spectrometer was designed for the measurements of neutron capture cross sections using a prompt γ-ray spectroscopic method with a time-of-flight technique. An optimum configuration for the 4πLaBr_3(Ce) spectrometer was chosen from four possible configurations based on comparison of simulated performance and cost of construction. Further simulations were performed to demonstrate performance of the 4πLaBr_3(Ce) spectrometer.

We study the subway network system for four cities, i.e., Seoul, Tokyo, Boston and Beijing, by using the global and local efficiencies. It is found that the Seoul subway network has a smaller global and local efficiencies than that of Tokyo. We suggest that the Tokyo subway system is better for an overall distance trip but is not weaker regarding incidents of disconnection. It is also validated for the four subway networks that the global efficiency is inversely proportional to the characteristic length. The Boston and Beijing local efficiencies, that depend on the number of triangular-formed topographic units, are very low and zero, respectively, and this means that these are somewhat deficiently round about routes. Especially, on comparing the characteristic length and the clustering coefficient, the global and local efficiencies seem to be more useful when both the concept of connectivity and length are needed.

During the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, practices of gastrointestinal procedures within the digestive tract require special precautions due to the risk of contraction of severe acute respiratoy syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. Many procedures in the gastrointestinal motility laboratory may be considered moderate to high-risk for viral transmission. Healthcare staff working in gastrointestinal motility laboratories are frequently exposed to splashes, air droplets, mucus, or saliva during the procedures. Moreover, some are aerosol-generating and thus have a high risk of viral transmission. There are multiple guidelines on the practices of gastrointestinal endoscopy during this pandemic. However, such guidelines are still lacking and urgently needed for the practice of gastrointestinal motility laboratories. Hence, the Asian Neurogastroenterology and Motility Association had organized a group of gastrointestinal motility experts and infectious disease specialists to produce a position statement paper based-on current available evidence and consensus opinion with aims to provide a clear guidance on the practices of gastrointestinal motility laboratories during the COVID-19 pandemic. This guideline covers a wide range of topics on gastrointestinal motility activities from scheduling a motility test, the precautions at different steps of the procedure to disinfection for the safety and well-being of the patients and the healthcare workers. These practices may vary in different countries depending on the stages of the pandemic, local or institutional policy, and the availability of healthcare resources. This guideline is useful when the transmission rate of SARS-CoV-2 is high. It may change rapidly depending on the situation of the epidemic and when new evidence becomes available.
