<P>As the analog of carbon allotropes, new three-dimensional (3D) boron nitride (BN) allotropes have attracted much attention of researchers due to their great importance in fundamental sciences and wide practical applications. Here, based on first-principles density-functional theory calculations, we predict two new stable BN allotropes: One is H-18-BN with the P (6) over bar m2 (D-3h(1)) symmetry containing eighteen atoms in the hexagonal unit cell and the other is Rh6-BN with the R (3) over barm (C-3v(5)) symmetry containing six atoms in the rhombohedral primitive unit cell. The dynamic stabilities of the two structures are examined through the phonon spectrum analysis as well as molecular dynamics simulations, whereas the mechanical properties are analyzed by elastic constants, bulk modulus and shear modulus. From the analysis of the enthalpy evolution with respect to pressure, we find that h-BN can be transformed into either H-18-BN or RH6-BN structure under a higher pressure of similar to 15 GPa. We also find that both the H-18-BN and Rh6-BN allotropes are brittle materials with indirect band gaps of 2.31 and 4.48 eV, respectively. The simulated XRD spectra provide detailed structural information of H-18-BN and Rh6-BN for future experimental examinations. Oviduct-specific Glycoprotein 1 Locus is Associated with Litter Size and Weight of Ovaries in Pigs

Oviduct-specific glycoprotein 1 (OVGP1) is implicated in playing a role in fertilization and early embryo development. In this study, we have obtained the sequence of intron 9 of OVGP1 gene in swine. Comparative sequencing of Meishan (a native Chinese breed) and Large White pig breeds revealed an A/T substitution at position 943. A PCR-EcoRI-RFLP assay was developed to detect this mutation. Polymorphism analysis in Qingping animals showed that pigs with BB genotype had lower number of piglets born alive (NBA) in multiple parities than pigs with AA (p<0.05) and AB genotype (p<0.01). In Large $White{\times}Meishan$ ($LW{\times}M$) $F_2$ offspring, the weight of both ovaries (OW) of the BB genotype was significantly lighter than that of AB (p = 0.05) and AA (p<0.01) genotypes. Analysis of the data also revealed that the mutation locus affected these two traits mostly by additive effects. These studies indicated that the polymorphism was associated with NBA and OW in two distinct populations and further investigations in more purebreds or crossbreds are needed to confirm these results.
Preparation of IrO2 Thin Films by MOCVD Using Ir(EtCp)(CHD)

We report on MOCVD of IrO2 thin lms by using liquid Ir precursor, Ir(EtCp)(CHD). IrO2 lms were successfully grown on SiO2/Si, Ti/SiO2/Si and Pb(Zr,Ti)O3/Pt/SiO2/Si at 400C and oxygen concentration of as high as 77 %. IrO2 lms prepared on SiO2/Si with and without surfaceoxidizedIr seeds exhibited an electrical resistivity of 103 cm, and a root-mean-square surface roughness of 5 nm. IrO2 lms showed step coverages of 40-50%on SiO2-stepped substrate with L/S (line and space) of 0.7/3.6 and 1.4/2.9 m.

We demonstrated deep level transient spectroscopy (DLTS) and isothermal capacitance transient spectroscopy (ICTS) measurements for metal/insulator/semiconductor (MIS) and metal/ferroelectric/insulator/semiconductor (MFIS) structures using insulating TiO2, ZrO2 and ferroelectric Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 (PZT) layers grown by metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD). Interface trap densities of MIS diodes with ZrO2 and TiO2 layers measured by the DLTS method were 1:5 3:9 1011 and 5:2 5:5 1011 eV..1cm..2, respectively. By the ICTS method, interface trap densities were successfully measured as 5:4 1011 and 1:5 1012 eV..1cm..2 for Au/PZT/ZrO2/Si diodes with and without plasma nitridation of Si surface.

The present study was conducted to compare the supplementation of natural (D-${\alpha}$-tocopherol) and synthetic (DL-${\alpha}$-tocopherol acetate) vitamin E on the growth performance, meat quality, muscular antioxidant capacity and genes expression related to oxidative status of broilers. A total of 144 1 day-old Arbor Acres broiler chicks were randomly allocated into 3 groups with 6 replicates of 8 birds each. Birds were given a basal diet (control group), and basal diet supplemented with either 20 IU D-${\alpha}$-tocopherol or DL-${\alpha}$-tocopherol acetate for 42 days, respectively. The results indicated that treatments did not alter growth performance of broilers (p>0.05). Compared with the control group, concentration of ${\alpha}$-tocopherol in the breast muscle was increased by the supplementation of vitamin E (p<0.05). In the thigh, ${\alpha}$-tocopherol content was also enhanced by vitamin E inclusion, and this effect was more pronounced in the natural vitamin E group (p<0.05). Vitamin E supplementation increased the redness of breast (p<0.05). In the contrast, the inclusion of synthetic vitamin E decreased lightness of thigh (p<0.05). Dietary vitamin E inclusion reduced drip loss at 24 h of thigh muscle (p<0.05), and this effect was maintained for drip loss at 48 h in the natural vitamin E group (p<0.05). Broilers given diet supplemented with vitamin E showed decreased malondialdehyde (MDA) content in the breast (p<0.05). Additionally, natural rather than synthetic vitamin E reduced MDA accumulation in the thigh (p<0.05). Neither natural nor synthetic vitamin E supplementation altered muscular mRNA abundance of genes related to oxidative stress (p>0.05). It was concluded that vitamin E supplementation, especially the natural vitamin E, can enhance the retention of muscular ${\alpha}$-tocopherol, improve meat quality and muscular antioxidant capacity of broilers.

The objective of this study was to assess the association of polymorphisms in MSTN and MYF5 genes with growth traits in three Chinese cattle breeds. Only one homozygous animal with BB genotype at MSTN locus was observed in Jiaxian population which was at Hardy-Weinberg disequilibrium (p<0.05). The frequencies of allele A at MSTN locus and allele B at MYF5 locus in the three Chinese breeds were 0.9550/0.9730/0.9720 and 0.8275/0.7581/0.7523, respectively. Allele A at MSTN locus and allele B at MYF5 locus were dominant in these three populations. No statistically significant differences in growth traits were observed between the genotypes of the Jiaxian breed at MSTN and MYF5 loci and the Nanyang breed at MYF5 locus. However, there were statistically significant differences between the genotypes at MSTN locus of the Nanyang breed for WH, HG, HGI and HGBLR (p<0.05), and of the Qinchuan breed for BLI (p<0.05). The SNP in MYF5 had significant effects on WH and HHC of Qinchuan animals (p<0.05). These results suggest that MSTN and MYF5 are strong candidate genes that influence growth traits in cattle. Other SNPs of MSTN and MYF5 or other linked genes should also be studied, which could lead to the development of selection plans to improve the performance of Chinese cattle and also promote the breeding of genuine beef cattle in China.
The dielectric and electrical modulus properties of Ba(Al0.5Nb0.5)xTi1-xO3 ceramics

In this work, a series of BaTiO3-based ceramic materials, Ba(Al0.5Nb0.5)xTi1-xO3 (x = 0, 0.04, 0.06, 0.08), was synthesized usinga standard solid-state reaction technique. In the temperature range of 100~380 K, the frequency-dependent dielectric andelectrical modulus properties were studied. A colossal dielectric permittivity (>1.5×104) and low dielectric loss (< 0.01) weredemonstrated at the optimal doping concentration x = 0.04. The observed dielectric behavior of Ba(Al0.5Nb0.5)xTi1-xO3 ceramicscan be attributed to the Universal Dielectric Response. The complex electrical modulus spectra indicate a significant decreasein capacitance and permittivity of the grains with increasing co-doping concentration. Our results provide insight into the roleof donor and acceptor co-doping on the properties of BaTiO3-based ceramics, which is important for their use in dielectric andenergy storage applications.
Characterization of PZT Capacitors with Ir Electrodes Prepared Solely by Low-Temperature MOCVD

Low-temperature MOCVD of Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 (PZT) thin lms and Ir lms was achieved. Using seed layer method and appropriate source gas combination method, PZT thin lms were successfully grown at 390-445 C. Ir thin lms as electrodes were also prepared at 280-350 C. Combining low-temperature MOCVD of PZT thin lms as a ferroelectric layer and Ir as an electrode, PZT capacitors with Ir electrodes were prepared solely by MOCVD. Even when PZT was deposited at low temperatures, 395 C and 445 C, PZT capacitors showed good D-E hysteresis loops with 2Pr of 20.0 C/cm2 and 36.9 C/cm2, respectively.
