Obesity and lipid metabolism studies using SD-rats were carried out on an edible Nigerian mushroom, namely, Lentinus tuber-regium (Fries) Singer. Experimental diets prepared with Lentinus tuber-regium (LTR) instead of carbohydrates were fed to SD rats for 6 weeks. Body weights gain were meaningfully decreased (3.2% and 29.3%, respectively) In LTR-50 and LTR-100 groups, whereas food intakes were significantly increased (24.5% and 40.7%, respectively) compared with control group. Feed efficiencies were significantly decreased (22.2% and 49.8%, respectively) in these two LTR groups, whereas gross efficiencies (GE) were meaningfully increased (9.9% and 10.4%, respectively) compared with control group. The ratios of diet intake (DI)/metabolic body size (MBS) were remarkably increased (50.3% and 136.1%, respectively) in these groups. Triglyceride and LDL-cholesterol levels were significantly decreased (22.4% and 32.6%, 8.3% and 12.7%, respectively) in these two groups, but HDL-cholesterol levels were desirably increased about 3-10% in LTR-added groups. Atherogenic indices (AIs) were significantly decreased about 8-13% in LTR-added groups compared with control group. These results suggest that an edible mushroom, Lentinus tuber-regium may be inhibit obesity in above 50%-LTR by increasing a diet intake, GE and DI/MBS ratio, but may also effectively modulate a chronic degenerative diseases by improving a lipid metabolism.

A severe ginseng root rot disease was occurred and became widespraed in 1973 affecting the ginseng cultivating plot around Kangwha and Gimpo-Gun of Kyunggi province. Soil samples were collected from the area of Wolgot-Myun, Gimpo-Gun, Kuunggi-Do, 1974. We examined general fungi and Fusarium sp. in soil layers and also in different kinds of soil of respective diseased, uncultivated and healthy areas, and found the following results. 1. In the diseased and uncultivated area, the content of moisture, organic matter arid silt was greater than in the healthy area. 2. Contray to the above, the healthy area contained a greater amount of inorganic elements such as P₂O_5, K,Ca and of soil particle such as C₃ and F₃. The degree of pH and content of Mg were even in the three types of soils. 3. General fungi were found in abundance in the diseased and uncultivated soils. It was observed that in all types of areas, general fungi reside in abundance in the rhizosphere, i.e., 10-15 ㎝ layers and that the closer the surface, the greater the numbers of fungi. 4, A great number of Fusarium sp. was found in the uncultivated area, and followed diseased ana healthy area. It was observed that in all types of areas, Fusarium sp. distributed in abundance in rhizosphere and that the closer the surface, the greater the numbers of Fusarium sp., with the numbers decreasing as the soil layers increase.

The new strains of Mycogone perniciosa which could attack cream colored mushroom were collected and tested to find out their characteristics is comparison with the original strains. The optimum temperature for mycelial growth was 25℃, showing no difference between strains, bat optimum pH was 6.0 for the original strains and pH 7.0 for the new ones. New strains did not survive at 50℃ for 60 minutes while original ones 40 minutes. Delan and Homai were effective for controlling new strains and the mushroom strains which have scales showed resistance to the new strains of M. perniciosa regardless of the mushroom colors.

Prochloraz of fungicide was applied on Mycogone perniciosa causing wet bubble in cultivated mushroom, Agaricus bisporus. In vitro, Prochloraz was an excellent fungicide on two strains of Mycogone, tolerant and non-tolerant to Benomyl, respectively. At the low dosage, Prochloraz more inhibited mycelial growth of mushrooms than Benomyl. At the higher dosage, Benomyl more inhibited the mycelial growth than prochloraz. The higher yield of sporophore of the mushroom with low inferction rate was abtained from several trial of Prochloraz. Prochloroz was concluded to be effective fungicide on Mycogone perniciosa on Agaricus cultivation.

Germination of the single-basidiospore of Agaricus bisporus, mycelial characteristics of the single spore culture and its fruit body formation were studied. Germination of the single basidiospore was the best on water agar. Of 6372 spores isolated, 1622 spore were germinated and the germination rate was 26 percent. Cultures from single basidiospores showed two distinct mycelial types on the compost eztract sucrose agar one was the strandy type and the other was the fluffy. The strandy type culture produced mare sporophores than the fluffy. Of 778 strandy isolates screened, nine cultures yielded 5 percent higher than the origine. No. 1567 and 1708 were selected for the commercial cultivation.
