      • How Compliant are Tobacco Vendors to India's Tobacco Control Legislation on Ban of Advertisments at Point of Sale? A Three Jurisdictions Review

Goel, Sonu,Kumar, Ravinder,Lal, Pranay,Tripathi, J.P.,Singh, Rana J.,Rathinam, Arul,Christian, Anant Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.24

Background: Section 5 of India's tobacco control legislation "Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003"comprehensively prohibits all kinds of tobacco advertisement, promotion and sponsorship (TAPS), but permits advertisments at the point-of-sale (POS) under certain conditions. This provision has been exploited by the tobacco companies to promote their products. Objective: To measure compliance with the provisions of Section 5 of Indian tobacco control legislation (COTPA, 2003) at point of sale. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional survey using an observation checklist was conducted in 1860 POS across three jurisdictions (Chennai city, District Vadodara and District Mohali) in India. Results: The most common mode of advertisement of tobacco products was product showcasing (51.1%), followed by dangles (49.6%), stickers (33.8%) and boards (27.1%). More than one fourth of POS were found violating legal provisions for displaying advertisement boards in one or other forms (oversized, extended to full body lenth of POS, displayed brandname/packshot and promotional messages). Advertisement boards (16.3%) without health warnings were also found and wherever found, more than 90% health warning were not as per the specification in respect to size, font and background color. Conclusions: Point of sale advertising is aggressively used by the tobacco industry to promote their products. There is an urgent need of effective implementation of a comprehensive ban on tobacco product advertisement, promotion and sponsorship at point of sale.

The current approach to the diagnosis of vascular anomalies of the head and neck: A pictorial essay

        Goel, Sinny,Gupta, Swati,Singh, Aarti,Prakash, Anjali,Ghosh, Sujoy,Narang, Poonam,Gupta, Sunita Korean Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology 2015 Imaging Science in Dentistry Vol.45 No.2

Throughout the years, various classifications have evolved for the diagnosis of vascular anomalies. However, it remains difficult to classify a number of such lesions. Because all hemangiomas were previously considered to involute, if a lesion with imaging and clinical characteristics of hemangioma does not involute, then there is no subclass in which to classify such a lesion, as reported in one of our cases. The recent classification proposed by the International Society for the Study of Vascular Anomalies (ISSVA, 2014) has solved this problem by including non-involuting and partially involuting hemangioma in the classification. We present here five cases of vascular anomalies and discuss their diagnosis in accordance with the ISSVA (2014) classification. A non-involuting lesion should not always be diagnosed as a vascular malformation. A non-involuting lesion can be either a hemangioma or a vascular malformation depending upon its clinicopathologic and imaging characteristics.

A Review of a New Clinical Entity of ‘Central Atlantoaxial Instability’: Expanding Horizons of Craniovertebral Junction Surgery

        Atul Goel 대한척추신경외과학회 2019 Neurospine Vol.16 No.2

The author discusses the novel form of central or axial atlantoaxial instability and analyses its clinical significance. High degree of clinical and radiological understanding of the region is mandatory to diagnose and then treat such atlantoaxial instability. Evaluation of alignment of facets of atlas and axis and observations on direct manipulation of facets of atlas and axis forms the basis of diagnosis. The treatment of clinical entities like basilar invagination, Chiari formation, syringomyelia and myelopathy related to cervical spinal degeneration, spinal deformities, ossified posterior longitudinal ligament, and Hirayama disease can be influenced by the understanding of central or axial atlantoaxial instability.

      • Performance Analysis of Active Disturbance Rejection Controlled Robotic Manipulator based on Evolutionary Algorithm

Ankur Goel,Akhilesh Swarup 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Hybrid Information Techno Vol.9 No.1

Active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) is a unique control strategy that combines the effectiveness of error driven PID controller, usefulness of state observer and strength of nonlinear feedback. This control algorithm, not only actively (online) estimates but also compensates the effects of unknown internal and external disturbances, present inherently in the plant with the help of a well-tuned extended state observer (ESO). Although, the classical solution to the parameter tuning performed by using parameterization technique provides good solution, it is not optimal for having desired performance specifications. Consequently, it became imperative to have intelligent tuning technique to achieve optimized solution to parameter tuning problem. In this regards, the Evolutionary Algorithms (EA), inspired by natural system and based on swarm intelligence, are proven to be the best tool to find the optimized solution of multi-dimensional problems. This paper presents an application of an EA optimized ADRC controller on an uncertain 2-DoF revolute-prismatic (RP) robotic manipulator for efficient trajectory tracking and parametric robustness. Eventually, the conventional ADRC design problem is converted into a special optimization problem for finding the optimal controller tuning parameters. To accomplish this task, two well-known EA’s viz. Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Bacteria Foraging Optimization (BFO) are implemented and performance of EA based controller-plant configuration is individually analyzed for each algorithm. The results of this note illustrate the benefits and weakness of the EA for implementing ADRC on MIMO systems. The performance of both the optimization techniques is compared in terms of computational time and convergence efficiency. Further, the optimized controllers are tested for the robustness in presence of disturbance and sensor noise to imitate real engineering. MATLAB based simulation results are presented and compared to demonstrate the effectiveness of both the EA's in designing an ADRC controller for improving manipulator tracking ability.

Exergy Analysis of Various Absorption Heat Transformer Systems Using Classical and Modi¯ed Gouy–Stodola Equation

        T. Goel,G. SACHDEVA 대한설비공학회 2015 International Journal Of Air-Conditioning and Refr Vol.23 No.1

In the present study, performance evaluation of three di®erent con¯gurations of absorption heattransformer (AHT) is carried out by supplying the waste heat of same mass and same temperature;and exergy analysis is done using both the classical and modi¯ed Gouy–stodola equation. For this a mathematical model is developed for all the three arrangements in EngineeringEquation Solver. Water–lithium bromide is used as a working pair. The results of exergy destructionwith classical and modi¯ed Gouy–stodola equation are compared for di®erent systems. Further various operating parameters are varied to predict the performance of the systems on thebasis of second law analysis. The result showed that the amount of hot °uid produced in absorberis more for system 3 as compared to other con¯gurations. The irreversibility calculated by themodi¯ed approach comes out to be 25.78%, 23.60%, and 23.45% more than the exergy destructionobtained by the classical approach in the three cases, respectively. Thus, there is a need to employthe modi¯ed approach of Gouy–Stodola equation for calculating the real irreversibility whichhelps in predicting the scope of improvement and the performance of the system more accurately

      • A Fuzzy Based Approach for Denoising of ECG Signal using Wavelet Transform

        Supriya Goel,Pradeep Tomar,Gurjit Kaur 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Bio-Science and Bio-Techn Vol.8 No.2

Electrocardiogram (ECG) is a vital biomedical signal for diagnosing heart diseases, but now it has many other applications like stress recognition, biometric recognition etc. but ECG signal gets noisy from various sources like as muscle noise, electrode artifacts, baseline drift noise and respiration. As wavelet transform shows a good performance in de-noising the ECG signal, however the selection of appropriate mother wavelet functions and number of wavelet decomposition levels is still an issue to remove the various kinds of noises from the input signal. It is essential to denoise the ECG signal to get appropriate features of ECG signal. This research work analyze and compare the removal of noise and distortion in ECG signal using five wavelets(Daubechies, Coiflet, Haar, Biorthogonal and Symmlet) with four thresholding rules(SURE, Hybrid,Universal and Minimax) and various decomposition levels using Fuzzy Inference System .The parameters used for performance analysis are Signal to Noise Ratio,Mean Square Error(MSE) and variance.
