Vol.74 No.-

“Who am I?”-an essential question that everyone would ask sometime in life; so does Jackie Chan, now a global celebrity who even shouted out this question openly in his film Who Am I? (1998). The paper aims to solve Jackie Chan’s identity dilemma as a global celebrity throughout his transnational crossing from local Hong Kong cinema to global Hollywood. Through Who Am I?(1998), it explores how Chan’s offscreen identity and onscreen personae can be linked together via celebrity mechanism, modern and postmodern identity theories. The paper further argues that Chan’s celebrity is primarily produced by mass media in entertainment industries, such as Hong Kong cinema and Hollywood, and consumed by transnational audiences, thus subject to their authorities as well. Despite early identity crisis, Chan can eventually utilize his ambiguous identity as a survival strategy to stand out from numerous opponents, thereby winning the “celebrity game.” Further studies are needed when it comes to “Who is Jackie Chan?” now, especially with emerging “celebrity logics” on SNSs like Facebook where an online “Jackie Chan” with over 63 million of followers among other top “celebrities,” that is, an online “Jackie Chan”-dominant celebrity.

      • A Network Intrusion Detection Model Based on K-means Algorithm and Information Entropy

        Gao Meng,Li Dan,Wang Ni-hong,Liu Li-chen 보안공학연구지원센터 2014 International Journal of Security and Its Applicat Vol.8 No.6

Many factors could influence the clustering performance of K-means algorithm, selection of initial cluster centers was an important one, traditional method had a certain degree of randomness in dealing with this problem, for this purpose, information entropy was introduced into the process of cluster centers selection, and a fusion algorithm combining with information entropy and K-means algorithm was proposed, in which, information entropy value was used to measure the similarity degree among records, the least similar record would be regarded as a cluster center. In addition, a network intrusion detection model was built, it could make cluster centers change dynamically along with the network changes, and the model could real-time update the cluster centers according to actual needs. Experiment results show that the improved algorithm proposed is better than the traditional K-means algorithm in detection ratio and false alarm ratio, and the network intrusion detection model is proved to be feasible.

      • ANXA2 Regulates the Behavior of SGC-7901 Cells

        Sun, Meng-Yao,Xing, Rui-Huan,Gao, Xiao-Jie,Yu, Xiang,He, Hui-Min,Gao, Ning,Shi, Hong-Yan,Hu, Yan-Yan,Wang, Qi-Xuan,Xu, Jin-Hui,Hou, Ying-Chun Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.10

ANXA2, a member of the annexin family, is overexpressed and plays important roles in tumor development. However, the significance of ANXA2 expression in gastric carcinoma has not been clarified. To elucidate its roles in growth of gastric cancer, ANXA2 expression in SGC-7901 cells was inhibited with a designated siRNA, then cell proliferation, cell cycling, apoptosis and motility were determined by MTT assay, flow cytometry, Hoechst 33342 staining and wound healing assay, respectively. To further assess the behavior of ANXA2 deleted SGC-7901 cells, changes of microstructures were observed under fluorescence microscopy, laser scanning confocal microscopy and electron microscopy. We found that inhibition of ANXA2 expression caused cell proliferation to decrease significantly with G1 arrest, motility to be reduced with changes in pseudopodia/filopodia structure and F-actin and ${\beta}$-tubulin expression, and apoptosis to be enhanced albeit without significance. At the same time, ANXA2 deletion resulted in fewer pseudopodia/filopodia, non-stained areas were increased, contact inhibition among cells reappeared, and expression of F-actin and ${\beta}$-tubulin was decreased, with induction of polymerized disassembled forms. Taken together, these data suggest that ANXA2 overexpression is important to maintain the malignancy of cancer cells, and this member of the annexin family has potential to be considered as a target for the gene therapy of gastric carcinoma.

<P><I>Eucommia ulmoides</I> leaves have been used as a functional food and drink in China. The purpose of this study was to identify the bioactive constituents with soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH) inhibitory activity and anti-inflammatory properties. Twenty-seven known compounds (<B>1</B>–<B>27</B>) were isolated from the leaves of <I>E. ulmoides</I> Oliver, and their structures were identified by NMR and ESIMS analysis; three of these, 2,5-dimethoxy-3-glucopyranosyl cinnamic alcohol (<B>11</B>), foliasalacioside E2 (<B>26</B>), and icariside F2 (<B>27</B>), were obtained from this plant for the first time. Compounds <B>1</B>–<B>7</B> exhibited soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH) inhibitory activity at 100 μM; among them, quercetin (<B>1</B>) and kaempferol (<B>5</B>) displayed potential activities with IC50 values of 22.5 ± 0.9 and 31.3 ± 2.6 μM, respectively, with noncompetitive inhibition mode. Nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) inhibitory activity of the isolated compounds was evaluated by the NF-κB liciferase assay in HepG2 cells. Compounds <B>1</B>, <B>9</B>, <B>20</B>, and <B>27</B> displayed potent NF-κB inhibitory effects, with IC50 values of 15.14 ± 2.29, 15.23 ± 2.34, 16.88 ± 2.17, and 16.25 ± 2.19 μM, respectively, whereas other compounds showed weak inhibition of NF-κB transcriptional activity ranging from 17.54 to 92.6 μM. A structure–activity relationship of flavonoids <B>1</B>–<B>9</B> was also discussed. The results obtained in this work might contribute to the understanding of pharmacological activities of <I>E. ulmoides</I> leaves and further investigation on its potential application values for food and drug.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/jafcau/2015/jafcau.2015.63.issue-8/acs.jafc.5b00055/production/images/medium/jf-2015-00055j_0004.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/jf5b00055'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>

Genomic diversity of the Avian leukosis virus subgroup J gp85 gene in different organs of an infected chicken

        Fanfeng Meng,Xue Li,Jian Fang,Yalong Gao,Lilong Zhu,Guiju Xing,Fu Tian,Yali Gao,Xuan Dong,Shuang Chang,Peng Zhao,Zhizhong Cui,Zhihao Liu 대한수의학회 2016 Journal of Veterinary Science Vol.17 No.4

The genomic diversity of Avian leukosis virus subgroup J (ALV-J) was investigated in an experimentally infected chicken. ALV-J variantsin tissues from four different organs of the same bird were re-isolated in DF-1 cells, and their gp85 gene was amplified and cloned. Ten clonesfrom each organ were sequenced and compared with the original inoculum strain, NX0101. The minimum homology of each organ rangedfrom 96.7 to 97.6%, and the lowest homology between organs was only 94.9%, which was much lower than the 99.1% homology of inoculumNX0101, indicating high diversity of ALV-J, even within the same bird. The gp85 mutations from the left kidney, which contained tumors, and the right kidney, which was tumor-free, had higher non-synonymous to synonymous mutation ratios than those in the tumor-bearing liverand lungs. Additionally, the mutational sites of gp85 gene in the kidney were similar, and they differed from those in the liver and lung, implyingthat organ- or tissue-specific selective pressure had a greater influence on the evolution of ALV-J diversity. These results suggest that moreALV-J clones from different organs and tissues should be sequenced and compared to better understand viral evolution and molecularepidemiology in the field.

Field Load Testing Study of Vertical Bearing Behavior of a Large Diameter Belled Cast-in-Place Pile

        Guangyun Gao,Meng Gao,Qingsheng Chen,Jun Yang 대한토목학회 2019 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.23 No.5

To investigate the vertical bearing behavior of manually excavated large diameter belled concrete piles (LDBCPs), field loading tests were performed on a total of 16 LDBCPs, ranging from 0.8 to 3.5 m in base diameter from 6.1 to 18.0 m in embedment length. The end bearing stratum is sand and gravel. The influence of pile dimensions (i.e., size of enlarged base D, embedment length L, and length-to-diameter ratio L/D) on the vertical bearing behavior of a belled pile is presented and discussed. Comparison is also made of the vertical bearing behavior of a belled pile and of a conventional straight pile under otherwise similar conditions. The results indicate that: 1) The vertical bearing capacity of a belled pile is significantly greater than that of a conventional straight pile provided the debris at the bottom of a belled pile is properly removed; 2) over 65% of the vertical bearing capacity for a belled pile is attributed to the tip resistance (Qe); 3) compared to the contribution of pile length L, increasing enlarged base D is a more effective way to increase the vertical ultimate bearing capacity of a belled pile (Qu); 4) the optimum length-to-enlarged base ratio (L/D) for belled piles to achieve maximum vertical bearing capacity is around 3.2.

      • A Novel Hybrid Bat Algorithm with Differential Evolution Strategy for Constrained Optimization

Xianbing Meng,X. Z. Gao,Yu Liu 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Hybrid Information Techno Vol.8 No.1

A novel hybrid Bat Algorithm (BA) with the Differential Evolution (DE) strategy using the feasibility-based rules, namely BADE is proposed to deal with the constrained optimization problems. The sound interferences induced by other things are inevitable for the bats which rely on the echolocation to detect and localize the things. Through integration of the DE strategy with BA, the insects’ interferences for the bats can be effectively mimicked by BADE. Moreover, the bats swarm’ mean velocity is simulated as the other bats’ effects on each bat. Having considered the living environments the bats inhabit, the virtual bats can be lifelike. Experiments on some benchmark problems and engineering designs demonstrate that BADE performs more efficient, accurate, and robust than the original BA, DE, and some other optimization methods.

      • Position-based Data Dissemination to Interested Region in VANETs

Shuoping Wang,Meng Kuai,Honghao Gao 보안공학연구지원센터 2014 International Journal of Grid and Distributed Comp Vol.7 No.5

Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs) are expected to provide assistance to various applications, such as accident broadcast or emergency notification. Some kinds of applications need data to be delivered in a certain region by geocast, which means disseminating information in a specific area, instead of using a certain IP address. In this paper, we propose a data dissemination protocol for VANETs, which delivers data to all the vehicles in an interested region. We assume each vehicle is equipped with GPS and DSRC devices. Our simulation results show that this data dissemination protocol can contribute to high delivery ratio. Also, it performs well in adaptability during heavy traffic.

Molecular characterization of duck enteritis virus CHv strain UL49.5 protein and its colocalization with glycoprotein M

        Meng Lin,Renyong Jia,Mingshu Wang,Xinghong Gao,Dekang Zhu,Shun Chen,Mafeng Liu,Zhongqiong Yin,Yin Wang,Xiaoyue Chen,Anchun Cheng 대한수의학회 2014 Journal of Veterinary Science Vol.15 No.3

The UL49.5 gene of most herpesviruses is conserved andencodes glycoprotein N. However, the UL49.5 protein ofduck enteritis virus (DEV) (pUL49.5) has not been reported. In the current study, the DEV pUL49.5 gene was firstsubjected to molecular characterization. To verify thepredicted intracellular localization of gene expression, therecombinant plasmid pEGFP-C1/pUL49.5 was constructedand used to transfect duck embryo fibroblasts. Next, therecombinant plasmid pDsRed1-N1/ glycoprotein M (gM)was produced and used for co-transfection with thepEGFP-C1/pUL49.5 plasmid to determine whether DEVpUL49.5 and gM (a conserved protein in herpesviruses)colocalize. DEV pUL49.5 was thought to be an envelopeglycoprotein with a signal peptide and two transmembranedomains. This protein was also predicted to localize in thecytoplasm and endoplasmic reticulum with a probability of66.7%. Images taken by a fluorescence microscope atdifferent time points revealed that the DEV pUL49.5 andgM proteins were both expressed in the cytoplasm. Overlapof the two different fluorescence signals appeared 12 h aftertransfection and continued to persist until the end of theexperiment. These data indicate a possible interaction between DEV pUL49.5 and gM.

Contributed Mini Review : New paradigms on siRNA local application

( Meng Pan ),( Jin Wen Ni ),( Hui Ming He ),( Shan Gao ),( Xiao Hong Duan ) 생화학분자생물학회(구 한국생화학분자생물학회) 2015 BMB Reports Vol.48 No.3

Small interfering RNA (siRNA) functions through pairing with specific mRNA sequences and results in the mRNA`s degradation. It is a potential therapeutic approach for many diseases caused by altered gene expression. The delivery of siRNA is still a major problem due to its rapid degradation in the circulation. Various strategies have been proposed to help with the cellular uptake of siRNA and short or small hairpin RNA (shRNA). Here, we reviewed recently published data regarding local applications of siRNA. Compared with systemic delivery methods, local delivery of siRNA/shRNA has many advantages, such as targeting the specific tissues or organs, mimicking a gene knockout effect, or developing certain diseases models. The eye, brain, and tumor tissues are ‘hot’ target tissues/ organs for local siRNA delivery. The siRNA can be delivered locally, in naked form, with chemical modifications, or in formulations with viral or non-viral vectors, such as liposomes and nanoparticles. This review provides a comprehensive overview of RNAi local administration and potential future applications in clinical treatment. [BMB Reports 2015; 48(3): 147-152]
