      • A Study on Developing Methodology of Evaluating an Accessibility of Home Appliances

Vol.2013 No.10

Concerns about the quality of life and accessibility for people with disability have surfaced as a serious issue from early 2000 in Korea. Although, the laws has been established as a result, they are biased to information technologies and architectures. It rarely concerns about house appliances for everyday use. Therefore, the countermeasure that evaluates the level of accessibility of house appliances is urgently required. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to offer accessibility checklist, which can be used as a specific guidelines to improve the accessibility of home appliances, and to derive the quantitative score for service providers and designers. The laws relevant to accessibility and guidelines for the disabled are used to the evaluation items in checklist. However, the checklist have limitation that can"t address the level of accessibility in quantitative way. The AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) and QFD(Quality Function Deployment) methods are used to give weight on each group in checklist. This method can show the actual level of accessibility of house appliances. Moreover, service providers and product designers can inspect the level of accessibility of their product by themselves.

      • A Study on Methodology for Evaluating Accessibility of Home Appliances in Quantification way

Vol.2013 No.5

Concerns on the quality of life for the people with disabilities have surfaced as a serious issue from early 2000 in Korea. Although related laws requiring the accessibility in facilities, products, services, and information in public domains have been established as a result, little efforts have been made on the accessibility in electronic appliances. Studies on methodology to provide and evaluate the accessibility of electronic appliances such as the washers and the refrigerators are needed for the manufacturers to design and produce more accessible electronic appliances for people with disabilities. This study focuses on developing methodologies to examine the level of accessibility of various electronic appliances and establishing countermeasures to enhance the accessibility. A modified HTA(Hierarchical Task Analysis) was used to compare the user experiences components with user activities between the nondisabled users and users with disabilities. The HTA provided an evaluation scheme for quantitatively measuring the level of accessibility of each electronic appliance by calculating the rate of inaccessible tasks for the people with disabilities based on the tasks listed on the user manuals provided by the manufacturers.

      • Reliable Network Design for Ethernet Ring Mesh Networks

        Kyusang Lee,Dujeong Lee,Hyang-Won Lee,No-Gil Myoung,Younghyun Kim,Rhee, J-K K. IEEE 2013 Journal of lightwave technology Vol.31 No.1

<P>A Novel Design Optimization For Reliable Networking Is Investigated In Ethernet Ring Mesh Networks With The Itu-T G.8032 Ethernet Ring Protection Recommendation. Designing An Ethernet Ring Mesh Consisting Of Multiple Rings To Achieve The Maximum Network Availability Is An Np-Complete Problem. We Show That A Graph With Vertex Connectivity Equal To Or Greater Than Two Is A Sufficient Condition For Designing An Ethernet Ring Mesh. A Novel Design Rule With An Efficient Heuristic Algorithm Is Proposed To Find A Design Close To An Optimal Ethernet Ring Mesh In Terms Of Maximum Network Availability. Compared With An Optimal Network Design Algorithm With An Exponential Enumeration Search Cost, The Heuristic Algorithm Achieves Network Availability Nearly As High As That Of An Optimal Design At A Polynomial Cost.</P>

Vol.2013 No.1

이에 본 연구에서는 가전제품의 접근성 평가를 위한 방법으로 HTA(Hierarchical Task Analysis, 계층적 과업 분석)를 제시하며 작성법과 작성예시를 함께 기술하였다. Nowadays, The people with disability are increasing, and the concept of accessibility is perceived more important than before. However, there are few studies and methodologies to evaluate the accessibility for house appliances and cases that are regarded as properly evaluated. In this paper, we suggest a methodology, HTA(Hierarchical Task Analysis), describe how to make it and the results from accessibility test, based on it. We expect this can be used to quantify accessibility evaluation for house appliances.

      • Multipath Video Real-Time Streaming by Field-Based Anycast Routing

        Kserawi, Malaz,Sangsu Jung,Dujeong Lee,Jihoon Sung,Rhee, June-Koo Kevin IEEE 2014 IEEE transactions on multimedia Vol.16 No.2

<P>Wireless mesh networking (WMN) for video surveillance provides a strong potential for rapid deployment in a large community, for which reliability and survivability for real-time streaming are the key performance measure. However, current routing protocols do not provide a robust solution to meet video transmission requirements such as providing load balancing for the high data rate and delay requirements. We propose an application of field-based anycast routing (FAR) protocol, which utilizes rapid routing dynamics inspired by an electrostatic potential field model governed by Poisson's equation. This routing metric takes into account geometric proximity and congestion degree in order to increase delivery ratio and decrease end-to-end delay, which determine the quality of the delivered video. In addition, FAR protects node failure with an on-the-fly rerouting process that guarantees the continuity of video streaming. Simulation results show 100% delivery ratio in congestion situations and it shows tolerance to different delay requirements compared with AODV and FDMR protocols in terms of delivering real-time and non real-time video surveillance which verifies FAR as a strong candidate for video transmission over WMN.</P>

      • Cost-effective topology design for HSR resilient mesh networks

        Allawi, Yazan M.,Dujeong Lee,Kyusang Lee,Rhee, June-Koo Kevin IEEE 2015 Journal of optical communications and networking Vol.7 No.1

<P>High-availability seamless redundancy (HSR) protocol provides a zero failover time protection applicable to any Ethernet topology. HSR is also capable of tolerating multiple simultaneous failures, which further promotes the application of packet-based Ethernet protection. Deploying HSR in mesh networks may incur a significant unnecessary cost if not designed carefully. This paper addresses the problem of minimizing the cost of HSR mesh networks given a network availability constraint. We first develop an enumeration-based method to find the optimal design. However, due to the NP-hard complexity of the problem, this is limited to only small networks. Hence, a novel two-step heuristic algorithm is proposed. The algorithm first searches a design of an initial mesh topology compliant with HSR survivability conditions, and then an evolution process takes place to find a modification of the initial topology that satisfies the required availability. The simulation results show that our heuristic algorithm achieves a comparable performance close to optimal while being computationally scalable.</P>

A Wireless Link-Up Augmentation Design for Disaster-Resilient Optical Networks

        Allawi, Yazan M.,Dujeong Lee,Rhee, June-Koo Kevin IEEE 2015 Journal of Lightwave Technology Vol.33 No.17

<P>In view of the increasing frequency and damage severity of disasters, network operators have become more concerned with providing disaster-resiliency measures for their optical network infrastructure, whereas mitigating network service interruption due to the disaster region failures in the optical physical medium merely by increasing network redundancy is deemed spatially inefficient and very costly, with recent advancements, wireless technology is a potential candidate solution for efficient medium diversification. This paper addresses the challenge of efficiently designing disaster-resilient wireless-link-augmented optical network infrastructure. We formulate this problem as an optimization model of finding the subset of links in an optical network topology whose wireless augmentation maximizes postdisaster recovery of overall network availability for a given budget constraint. To overcome the computational complexity of finding the optimal design solution, a novel greedy heuristic algorithm is proposed. Performance comparisons with an exhaustive enumeration search and simple heuristics demonstrate the efficiency and scalability of our heuristic algorithm.</P>

A Study on the Difference of Total Grip Strength and Individual Finger Force between Dominant and Non-dominant Hands in Various Grip Spans of Pliers

        Yong-Ku Kong,Hyunjoon Park,Dujeong Kim,Taemoon Lee,Eunyoung Roh,Seulki Lee,Wenbin Zhao,Dae-Min Kim,Hyun-Sung Kang 대한인간공학회 2013 大韓人間工學會誌 Vol.32 No.6

Objective: The purpose of this study is to analyze the individual finger force between dominant hand and non-dominant hand and to investigate an effect of the individual finger on the total grip strength depending on dominant hand and non-dominant hand. Background: Many studies on the ratio of the grip force between dominant hand and non-dominant hand has been researched. While a 10% rule which is a ratio of the grip force between dominant hand and non-dominant hand has been applied in most studies, studies on the rate of the individual finger force between dominant hand and non-dominant hand have been insufficiently researched. Method: The experiment was preceded with 17 subjects (male, mean 25.8 ages). The individual finger force and total grip strength were measured using pliers being able to change the grip span from 45 to 80mm. Results: The difference of total grip strength between dominant hand and non-dominant hand is following 10% rule. However, the difference of individual finger force between dominant hand and non-dominant hand are not same as the difference of total grip strength. Especially in the case of grip span with 50mm, the differences between total grip strength, index finger, middle finger, ring finger, and little finger were 9.87±14.80%, 8.95±37.17%, 13.71±28.27%, 6.77±24.35%, 39.29±42.46%, respectively, with p=0.018 of statistical significance. Additionally, the results of regression analysis in 50 and 60mm of grip span showed that the difference in ring finger affected the most to the total grip strength; and the effects followed in order of index finger, middle finger, and little finger. Conclusion: Our study suggests that an effect of individual finger and grip span of pliers have to be considered when explaining the difference of the total grip strength between dominant hand and non-dominant hand. Application: This result is expected to be used for designing ergonomic hand tool.
