Branding a City as a Sports Town: A Conceptual Model Based on ‘Track Town USA’

Governments, municipalities, and communities see potential in sports as a way to improve their image as a tourism destination, create tangible and intangible legacies, and achieve foreign policy goals. The purpose of the study is to portray a model for cities to brand themselves as sports towns and to differentiate from others by enhancing their sporting image. The study uses secondary sources from different media outlets, search engines, press releases, and libraries, to explore and analyze the case of Eugene, Oregon, which despite being smaller than 150 other cities in the United States, has been labeled ‘Track Town USA’. Building on the conceptual literature on country image, place branding, mega-events, and related fields, the study develops a model for strategically branding a city as a sports town. The model suggests strategies for cities considering to brand themselves through sports on local, regional, national, international, and global levels.

The notion of equity, or fairness, has been applied in several areas of human conduct, including business. In fact, prior research has found that employee's perceived equity is associated with several job-related responses, such as worker job satisfaction, absenteeism, and turnover. Preliminary evidence suggests that perceived equity may be culturally based. This paper reports the results of a study that examined industrial salespeople's perceptions of organizational fairness in Korea, the United States, and Japan. Findings of the investigation indicate that salesperson perceptions vary across the three countries. Implications are also offered.
[+Agent] conditioned Case assignment to nominalized VPs in Korean LFN constructions

The aim of the current paper is to investigate how Case is assigned to non-canonical nominal expressions which are distinct from Case-marking on canonical subject and object arguments. More specifically, we focus on Case marking to nominalized verbs in Korean Long-Form negation constructions. As other nominal expressions get Case in Korean, the nominalized verbs with the -ci marker in Long-Form negation constructions can also get either NOM or ACC. However, the distributions of Case marking in this paper show that Case markers attached to the nominalized verbs are not randomly assigned, but it is systematically given depending on syntactic and semantic properties of the nominalized verbs. This paper proposes two distinct conditions as follows: the negated auxiliary verb anh (i) assigns only ACC Case to its nominalized verb complement or (ii) assigns either NOM or ACC Case allowing free Case alternation. To solve the puzzle of distinct Case assignment, this paper argues that agentivity is the important factor in deciding Case marking on the nominalized verb. Evidence from the data further proves that if nominalized verbs have +Agent feature, then the feature can percolate up to the Case assigner anh, and it eventually forces to assign only ACC Case back onto the nominalized verb. If not, the auxiliary verb anh cannot have +Agent feature and assigns either NOM or ACC.
The Response of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers to the Provisions of the ACA

The provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (the ACA) engendered a number of effects on pharmaceutical manufacturers, including the annual fee, mandated Medicaid drugs rebates, and Medicare prescription drug coverage “donut hole” relief. The authors conduct theoretical and empirical analyses to assess the consequences of the provisions. Both theoretical and empirical analyses show that the provisions have positive correlations with increased prices for branded prescription drugs. These findings reveal that pharmaceutical manufacturers shift drug costs to patients.
Determinants of Dispatching Sales Personnel in Manufacturer-Retailer Relationship

본 연구는 제조업체에서 유통업체로 판촉사원을 파견하는 원인을 크게 힘-의존 관점(power-dependence perspective)과 마케팅효과성 관점 (marketing effectiveness)에서 설명하고, 실제로 어떠한 세부 변수들이 각각의 관점에 영향을 마치는지에 대해 규명하고자 하였다. 15개 제조업체(가전, 식음료, 생활용품 등)에서 판매사원 파견을 담당하고 있는 지역/채널별 마케팅 담당자 172명을 대상으로 설문을 시행한 결과는 다음과 같이 나타났다. 첫째, 힘-의존 관점에서, 수요의 변동성(demand volatility), 제조업체의 경쟁강도(competition intensity), 제조업체의 경로집중도(channel concentration) 및 브랜드자산(brand equity)과 같은 변수들은 제조업체의 유통업체에 대한 의존성에 형향을 미치고 결과적으로, 이러한 유통업체 의존도의 증가는 판촉사원 파견 정도에 있어 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 마케팅효과성 관점에서, 고객유대감(customer linking) 및 채널결속(channel bonding)은 마케팅 효과성에 영향을 미치고, 이는 결국 판촉사원 파견 정도에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 본 연구의 시사점과 한계점에 대해 서술하였다.
A common missense variant in NUDT15 confers susceptibility to thiopurine-induced leukopenia

Thiopurine therapy, commonly used in autoimmune conditions, can be complicated by life-threatening leukopenia. This leukopenia is associated with genetic variation in TPMT (encoding thiopurine S-methyltransferase). Despite a lower frequency of TPMT mutations in Asians, the incidence of thiopurine-induced leukopenia is higher in Asians than in individuals of European descent. Here we performed an Immunochip-based 2-stage association study in 978 Korean subjects with Crohn's disease treated with thiopurines. We identified a nonsynonymous SNP in NUDT15 (encoding p.Arg139Cys) that was strongly associated with thiopurine-induced early leukopenia (odds ratio (OR) = 35.6; P<SUB>combined</SUB> = 4.88 × 10<SUP>−94</SUP>). In Koreans, this variant demonstrated sensitivity and specificity of 89.4% and 93.2%, respectively, for thiopurine-induced early leukopenia (in comparison to 12.1% and 97.6% for TPMT variants). Although rare, this SNP was also strongly associated with thiopurine-induced leukopenia in subjects with inflammatory bowel disease of European descent (OR = 9.50; P = 4.64 × 10<SUP>−4</SUP>). Thus, NUDT15 is a pharmacogenetic determinant for thiopurine-induced leukopenia in diverse populations.
