Level crossing between the QCD axion and an axionlike particle
Daido, Ryuji,Kitajima, Naoya,Takahashi, Fuminobu American Physical Society 2016 Physical Review D Vol.93 No.7

We study a level crossing between the QCD axion and an axionlike particle, focusing on the recently found phenomenon, the axion roulette, where the axionlike particle runs along the potential, passing through many crests and troughs, until it gets trapped in one of the potential minima. We perform detailed numerical calculations to determine the parameter space where the axion roulette takes place, and as a result domain walls are likely formed. The domain wall network without cosmic strings is practically stable, and it is nothing but a cosmological disaster. In a certain case, one can make domain walls unstable and decay quickly by introducing an energy bias without spoiling the Peccei-Quinn solution to the strong charge parity problem.

A probe method for the inverse boundary value problem of non-stationary heat equations
Daido, Yuki,Kang, Hyeonbae,Nakamura, Gen Institute of Physics 2007 Inverse problems Vol.23 No.5

An inverse problem for identifying an inclusion inside an isotropic homogeneous heat conductive medium is considered. The shape of the inclusion may vary depending on time. For the one space dimensional case, we develop an analogue of the probe method known for inverse boundary value problems for elliptic equations and give a reconstruction procedure for identifying the inclusion from the Neumann to Dirichlet map.

An application of doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG), which is one of adjustable speed generators, to a gas engine cogeneration system has been investigated. To operate during a blackout as an emergency power supply is one of important roles for the gas engine cogeneration system. However, the DFIG requires initial excitation for startup during a blackout because the DFIG has no excitation source. In this paper, we propose the "blackout start" as a new excitation method to generate a rated voltage at the primary side during a blackout. In addition, a stand-alone operation following a blackout has been investigated by using experimental setup with a real gas engine. Power flows in the generating set with the DFIG at the stand-alone operation have been investigated experimentally. Experimental investigation of the power flow suggests that the generating set with DFIG has optimal speed in minimizing whole system losses.

A doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG), which is one of the variable speed generator, applied to a gas engine cogeneration system has been investigated. To operate during a blackout as an emergency power supply is one of important roles for the gas engine cogeneration system. However, the DFIG requires the initial excitation for startup during a blackout because DFIG has no excitation source. In this paper, the excitation method to generate a rated voltage at the primary side during a blackout, which is called “blackout start” has been proposed. In addition, a stand-alone operation following the blackout start has been investigated using both computer simulation and experiments with a gas engine simulator. Moreover, the proposed blackout start and stand-alone operation method has been verified through experiments using a real gas engine.

We observe the proton signals produced by laser interaction with thin-foil targets of polyimide and of copper. We change the thickness of the polyimide target to 7.5 μm, 12.5 μm, and 50 μm. High-energy protons with the maximum energy of ~2.3 MeV from 7.5 μm thick polyimide are observed. This proton beam with the maximum energy of multi-MeV has various applications such as a proton shadowgraphy.
Soft X-ray sources with a narrow spectral bandwidth
I. W. Choi,H. Daido,M. Suzuki 한국물리학회 2003 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.42 No.III
Soft X-ray spectra emitted from the laser-plasma sources produced by focusing a nanosecond Nd:YAG laser pulse onto targets made of pure Sn and its oxides (SnO and SnO2) were investigated by means of a space-resolved technique for the soft X-ray emission areas. When using targets made of Sn oxides instead of pure Sn, especially SnO2 thin lm, much narrower spectral bandwidth of the characteristic transition array peaked near 13.5 nm wavelength has been achieved. The narrow spectral bandwidth feature with great suppression of soft X-ray emissions outside the bandwidth shows various applications, such as a source of the soft X-ray projection lithography system.
The IEEE 1904.1 standard: SIEPON architecture and model
Kramer, G.,Khermosh, L.,Daido, F.,Brown, A.,Hosung Yoon,Suzuki, K-I,Wang Bo Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers 2012 IEEE communications magazine Vol.50 No.9

In a short time, IEEE EPON has progressed from initial trials to a market-leading optical access technology that supports business and residential services, including IPTV, VoIP, commercial- grade data services, and cellular backhaul. Due to EPON's simplicity and flexibility, various standards development organizations have embarked on standardization projects aimed at integrating EPON with existing network architectures. Also, several network operators have developed EPON solutions that address their specific deployment environments or relevant regulations. The IEEE P1904.1 SIEPON project is creating an open international system-level specification that provides for multivendor interoperability of EPON equipment while accommodating the rich and varied nature of the existing deployments and standards. The development of a unified EPON data path architecture is one of the key achievements of the SIEPON project. This flexible architecture supports multiple service models, multiple provisioning and management concepts, and diversity of deployment environments and regulatory requirements.
