We make use of ab initio density functional theory calculation to explore the electronic and transport properties of zigzag-edged graphene nanoribbon (ZGNR) with peculiar designed electronic transport channels by tailoring the atomic configuration of the nanostructure. Tailoring the atomic structure has significant influences on the electronic transport of the defective nanostructure, and eventually the metal-semiconducting transition are identified with the increasing number of missing atoms. Our results demonstrate that pre-designed graphene nanoribbon by selective tailoring with high precision is expected to be served as the basic component for nanoelectronic device.

We prepared and optimized Ulex europaeus agglutinin I (UEAI)-modified Bovine serum albumin (BSA)-encapsulating liposomes (UEAI-LIP) as oral vaccine carriers and examined the feasibility of inducing systemic and mucosal immune responses by oral administration of UEAILIP. The prepared systems were characterized in vitro for their average size, zeta potential, encapsulation efficiency (EE%) and conjugation efficiency (CE%). In vitro release studies indicated that the presence of UEAI around the optimized liposomes was able to prevent a burst release of loaded BSA and provide sustained release of the encapsulated protein. In vivo immune-stimulating results in KM mice showed that BSA given intramuscularly generated systemic response only but both systemic and mucosal immune responses could be induced simultaneously in the groups in which BSA-loaded liposomes (LIP) and UEAI-LIP were administered intragastrically. Furthermore, the modification of UEAI on the surface of liposomes could further enhance the IgA and IgG levels obviously. In conclusion, this study demonstrated the high potential of lectin-modified liposomes containing the antigen as carriers for oral vaccine.

For the first time, the finite Fourier integral transform approach is extended to analytically solve the free vibration problem of rectangular thin plates with two adjacent edges rotationally-restrained and others free. Based on the fundamental transform theory, the governing partial differential equations (PDEs) of the plate is converted to ordinary linear algebraic simultaneous equations without assuming trial function for deflection, which reduces the mathematical complexity caused by both the free corner and rotationally-restrained edges. By coupling with mathematical manipulation, the analytical solutions are elegantly achieved in a straightforward procedure. In addition, the vibration characteristics of plates under classical boundary conditions are also studied by choosing different rotating fixed coefficients. Finally, more than 400 comprehensive analytical solutions were well validated by finite element method (FEM) results, which can be served as reference data for further studies. The advantages of the present method are that it does not need to preselect the deformation function, and it has general applicability to various boundary conditions. The presented approach is promising to be further extended to solve the static and dynamic problems of moderately thick plates and thick plates.
