Microwave Absorption and Magnetic Properties of Cobalt Ferrites/Carbon Nanotubes Nanocomposites

        B. B. Zhang,P. F. Wang,J. C. Xu,Y. B. Han,H. X. Jin,D. F. Jin,X. L. Peng,B. Hong,J. Li,J. Gong,H. L. Ge,Z. W. Zhu,X. Q. Wang 성균관대학교(자연과학캠퍼스) 성균나노과학기술원 2015 NANO Vol.10 No.5

Owing to the unique microstructure and the excellent dielectric properties, carbon nanotubes(CNTs) were decorated with CoFe2O4 nanoparticles to synthesize the CoFe2O4/CNTs nanocomposites by the solvothermal method. The phase structure, morphology, magnetic properties and microwave absorption performance of the as-prepared CoFe2O4/CNTs were characterized and discussed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermal gravity analysis (TGA), transmission electron microscope (TEM), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) and vector network analyzer (VNA). All results indicated that the diameter of CoFe2O4 nanoparticles decorating on the surface of CNTs increased with the solvothermal temperature. CoFe2O4/CNTs prepared at 180℃, 200℃ and 220℃ exhibited superparamagnetism, while the other samples presented ferromagnetism at room temperature. And with the increasing solvothermal temperature, the saturation magnetization and coercivity increased up to 72 emu/g and 2000 Oe for the sample prepared at 260℃ (S-26). And the reflection loss of CoFe2O4/CNTs nanocomposites increased with the solvothermal temperature up to -15.7 dB for S-26 with the bandwidth of 2.5 GHz.

Effects of Forage:Concentrate Ratio on Growth Performance, Ruminal Fermentation and Blood Metabolites in Housing-feeding Yaks

        Chen, G.J.,Song, S.D.,Wang, B.X.,Zhang, Z.F.,Peng, Z.L.,Guo, C.H.,Zhong, J.C.,Wang, Y. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2015 Animal Bioscience Vol.28 No.12

The objective of this study was to determine the effect of forage: concentrate ratio (F:C) on growth performance, ruminal fermentation and blood metabolites of housing-feeding yaks. Thirty-two Maiwa male yaks (initial body weight = $207.99{\pm}3.31kg$) were randomly assigned to four dietary treatments (8 yaks per treatment). Experimental diets were: A, B, C, D which contained 70:30, 60:40, 50:50 and 40:60 F:C ratios, respectively. Dry matter intake and average daily gain in yaks fed the C and D diets were greater (p<0.05) than yaks fed the A and B diets. No differences were found in ruminal $NH_3-N$, total volatile fatty acids, acetate, butyrate, valerate, and isovalerate concentrations. The propionate concentration was increased (p<0.05) in the C and D groups compared with the A and B diets. In contrast, the acetate to propionate ratio was decreased and was lowest (p<0.05) in the C group relative to the A and B diets, but was similar with the D group. For blood metabolites, no differences were found in serum concentrations of urea-N, albumin, triglyceride, cholesterol, low density lipoprotein, alanine aminotransferase, and aspartate aminotransferase (p>0.05) among treatments. Treatment C had a higher concentration of total protein and high density lipoprotein (p<0.05) than A and B groups. In addition, there was a trend that the globulin concentration of A group was lower than other treatments (p = 0.079). Results from this study suggest that increasing the level of concentrate from 30% to 50% exerted a positive effect on growth performance, rumen fermentation and blood metabolites in yaks.

Intramuscular Administration of Zinc Metallothionein to Preslaughter Stressed Pigs Improves Anti-oxidative Status and Pork Quality

        Li, L.L.,Hou, Z.P.,Yin, Y.L.,Liu, Y.H.,Hou, D.X.,Zhang, B.,Wu, G.Y.,Kim, S.W.,Fan, M.Z.,Yang, C.B.,Kong, X.F.,Tang, Z.R.,Peng, H.Z.,Deng, D.,Deng, Z.Y.,Xie, M.Y.,Xiong, H.,Kang, P.,Wang, S.X. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2007 Animal Bioscience Vol.20 No.5

This study was conducted to determine the effects of exogenous zinc-metallothionein (Zn-MT) on anti-oxidative function and pork quality. After feeding a corn-soybean meal-based diet for two weeks, 48 pigs ($Duroc{\times}Landrace{\times}Chinese\;Black Pig$) were assigned randomly to four groups. Pigs in Group 1 were maintained under non-stress conditions, whereas pigs in Groups 2, 3 and 4 were aggressively handled for 25 min to produce stress. Pigs in Groups 1, 2, 3, and 4 received intramuscular administration of saline (control group; CON), 0 (negative control group; NCON), 0.8 (low dose group; LOW), and 1.6 (high dose group; HIGH) mg rabbit liver Zn-MT per kg body weight, respectively. Pigs were slaughtered at 3 and 6 h post-injection. Zn-MT treatment increased (p<0.05) the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione-peroxidase (GSH-PX) while decreasing the concentration of malondialdehyde (MDA) in liver. These responses were greater (p<0.05) at 6 h than at 3 h post Zn-MT injection. Zn-MT treatment increased (p<0.05) hepatic SOD mRNA levels in a time and dose-dependent manner and decreased (p<0.05) serum glutamate-pyruvate transaminase and lactate dehydrogenase activities (indicators of tissue integrity). Zn-MT administration decreased (p<0.05) lactate concentration and increased (p<0.05) pH and water-holding capacity in the longissimus thorasis meat. Collectively, our results indicate that intramuscular administration of Zn-MT to pre-slaughter stressed pigs improved tissue anti-oxidative ability and meat quality.

METHOD FOR INVESTIGATION OF CHILD OCCUPANT IMPACT DYNAMICS BASED ON REAL-WORLD ACCIDENT

        Y. PENG,R. LI,G. B. LI,X. M. YANG,D. ZHOU 한국자동차공학회 2015 International journal of automotive technology Vol.16 No.5

The objective of the study is to propose a method to investigate child occupant impact dynamics based on realworld accident reconstruction. A real-world child occupant accident was reconstructed by using PC-Crash and finite element (FE) modeling software, with the aim of comparing simulation output with injuries sustained. Firstly, PC-Crash reconstruction was carried out to calculate vehicle impact conditions of vehicle impact velocity, vehicle position and vehicle orientation. The dynamics responses at the head, neck, thorax and pelvis of the child occupant were simulated. Hybird III 6-year-old FE model was employed in FE simulation. The results of two vehicles’ positions agreed well with that in real-world accident case, the dynamics responses at the head, neck and thorax of the child occupant well indicate the injury status of the child occupant. The simulation results showed that booster seat headrest and intrusive door mainly causes head injuries and seat belt mainly causes abdominal bruise of children. This study provides a useful method to investigate the impact dynamic and injury risk of child occupantre.

Vitamin E improves antioxidant status but not lipid metabolism in laying hens fed a aged corn-containing diet

        Ding, X.M.,Mu, Y.D.,Zhang, K.Y.,Wang, J.P.,Bai, S.P.,Zeng, Q.F.,Peng, H.W. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2021 Animal Bioscience Vol.34 No.2

Objective: The objective of this study was to determine whether a dietary vitamin E (VE) supplement could alleviate any detrimental effects of aged corn on lipid metabolism and antioxidant status in laying hens. Methods: The experiment consisted of a 2×3 factorial design with two corn types (normal corn and aged corn (stored for 4 yr) and three concentrations of VE (0, 20, and 100 IU/kg). A total of 216 Lohmann laying hens (50 wk of age) were randomly allocated into six treatment diets for 12 wk. Each treatment had 6 replicates of 6 hens per replicate. Results: The results show that aged corn significantly decreased the content of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (p<0.05), and reduced chemokine-like receptor 1 (CMKLR1) mRNA expression (p<0.05) in the liver compared to controls. Diet with VE did not alter the content of crude fat and cholesterol (p>0.05), or acetyl-CoA carboxylase, lipoprotein lipase, fatty acid synthase or CMKLR1 mRNA expression (p>0.05) in the liver among treatment groups. Aged corn significantly increased the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) (p<0.05) and decreased superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity (p<0.05) in the liver. The VE increased the content of MDA (p<0.05) but decreased glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activity in serum (p<0.01) and in the ovaries (p<0.05). Adding VE at 20 and 100 IU/kg significantly increased GSH-Px activity (p<0.05) in liver and in serum (p<0.01), 100 IU/kg VE significantly increased SOD activity (p<0.05) in serum. Aged corn had no significant effects on GSH-Px mRNA or SOD mRNA expression (p<0.01) in the liver and ovaries. Addition of 100 IU/kg VE could significantly increase SOD mRNA expression (p<0.01) in the liver and ovary. Conclusion: Aged corn affected lipid metabolism and decreased the antioxidant function of laying hens. Dietary VE supplementation was unable to counteract the negative effects of aged corn on lipid metabolism. However, addition of 100 IU/kg VE prevented aged corninduced lipid peroxidation in the organs of laying hens.

OPTIMAL DESIGN OF THREE-PLANETARY-GEAR POWER-SPLIT HYBRID POWERTRAINS

        W. ZHUANG,X. ZHANG,D. ZHAO,H. PENG,L. WANG 한국자동차공학회 2016 International journal of automotive technology Vol.17 No.2

Many of today’s power-split hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) utilize planetary gears (PGs) to connect the powertrain elements together. Recent power-split HEVs tend to use two PGs and some of them have multiple modes to achieve better fuel economy and driving performance. Looking to the future, hybrid powertrain technologies must be enhanced to design hybrid light trucks. For light trucks, the need for multi-mode and more PGs is stronger, to achieve the required performance. To systematically explore all the possible designs of multi-mode HEVs with three PGs, an efficient searching and optimization methodology is proposed. All possible clutch topology and modes for one existing configuration that uses three PGs were exhaustively searched. The launching performance is first used to screen out designs that fail to satisfy the required launching performance. A near-optimal and computationally efficient energy management strategy was then employed to identify designs that achieve good fuel economy. The proposed design process successfully identify 8 designs that achieve better launching performance and better fuel economy, while using fewer number of clutches than the benchmark and a patented design.

      • A novel lifetime-based phosphor thermography using three-gate scheme and a low frame-rate camera

        Cai, T.,Peng, D.,Liu, Y.Z.,Zhao, X.F.,Kim, K.C. Elsevier 2017 Experimental thermal and fluid science Vol.80 No.-

<P>Lifetime-based method using multiple-frame technique and sophisticated high-speed cameras has been developed for two-dimensional phosphor thermography in recent years, which is however limited due to high cost and long time in data processing. In this study, a novel lifetime-based method using three-gate scheme and a low frame-rate camera was proposed, which is able to significantly reduce equipment cost, simplify data processing, and remarkably increase spatial resolution. Here, Mg4FGeO6:Mn was used as sensor material, which was excited by a pulsed UV LED. A low frame-rate CCD camera at 4 Hz was sufficient to conduct phosphor thermometry using a three-gate scheme: one in fully excited region, one in decay region and one for background subtraction. Calibration was performed with a temperature range from 200 degrees C to 550 degrees C, and the results agreed well with data obtained by a high-speed camera sampling at 40 kHz. The effect of exposure time was investigated to yield an optimum value of 2 ms in this study. Finally, this new method was demonstrated in temperature measurements of the steady and impulsively started impingement jet heat transfer. (C) 2016 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.</P>

THE ELECTRON FRACTION AND THE FERMI ENERGY OF RELATIVISTIC ELECTRONS IN A NEUTRON STAR

        GAO, ZHI FU,LI, X.D.,WANG, N.,PENG, Q.H. The Korean Astronomical Society 2015 天文學論叢 Vol.30 No.2

We first deduce a uniform formula forthe Fermi energy of degenerate and relativistic electrons in the weak-magnetic field approximation. Then we obtain an expression of the special solution for the electron Fermi energy through this formula, and express the electron Fermi energy as a function of electron fraction and matter density. Our method is universally suitable for relativistic electron- matter regions in neutron stars in the weak-magnetic field approximation.

Spontaneous Hepatocellular Carcinoma after the Combined Deletion of Akt Isoforms

        Wang, Q.,Yu, W.N.,Chen, X.,Peng, X.d.,Jeon, S.M.,Birnbaum, M.J.,Guzman, G.,Hay, N. Cell Press 2016 CANCER CELL Vol. No.

Akt is frequently hyperactivated in human cancers and is targeted for cancer therapy. However, the physiological consequences of systemic Akt isoform inhibition were not fully explored. We showed that while combined Akt1 and Akt3 deletion in adult mice is tolerated, combined Akt1 and Akt2 deletion induced rapid mortality. Akt2-/- mice survived hepatic Akt1 deletion but all developed spontaneous hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), which is associated with FoxO-dependent liver injury and inflammation. The gene expression signature of HCC-bearing livers is similar to aggressive human HCC. Consistently, neither Akt1-/- nor Akt2-/- mice are resistant to diethylnitrosamine-induced hepatocarcinogenesis, and Akt2-/- mice display a high incidence of lung metastasis. Thus, in contrast to other cancers, hepatic Akt inhibition induces liver injury that could promote HCC.
