      • III–V Complementary Metal–Oxide–Semiconductor Electronics on Silicon Substrates

        Nah, Junghyo,Fang, Hui,Wang, Chuan,Takei, Kuniharu,Lee, Min Hyung,Plis, E.,Krishna, Sanjay,Javey, Ali American Chemical Society 2012 Nano letters Vol.12 No.7

<P>One of the major challenges in further advancement of III–V electronics is to integrate high mobility complementary transistors on the same substrate. The difficulty is due to the large lattice mismatch of the optimal <I>p</I>- and <I>n</I>-type III–V semiconductors. In this work, we employ a two-step epitaxial layer transfer process for the heterogeneous assembly of ultrathin membranes of III–V compound semiconductors on Si/SiO2 substrates. In this III–V-on-insulator (XOI) concept, ultrathin-body InAs (thickness, 13 nm) and InGaSb (thickness, 7 nm) layers are used for enhancement-mode <I>n</I>- and <I>p</I>- MOSFETs, respectively. The peak effective mobilities of the complementary devices are ∼1190 and ∼370 cm2/(V s) for electrons and holes, respectively, both of which are higher than the state-of-the-art Si MOSFETs. We demonstrate the first proof-of-concept III–V CMOS logic operation by fabricating NOT and NAND gates, highlighting the utility of the XOI platform.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/nalefd/2012/nalefd.2012.12.issue-7/nl301254z/production/images/medium/nl-2012-01254z_0002.gif'></P>

      • FROM BUSINESS STRATEGY AND SOCIAL CAPITAL PERSPECTIVE TO TRAVEL AGENCIES’ COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE

        Chih-Hsing Liu,Jeou-Shyan Horng,Sheng-Fang Chou,Yung-Chuan Huang,Bernard Gan,Wei-Long Lee 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2018 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2018 No.07

Many firms see organizational learning systems as critical to facilitating competitive advantage. However, until now, few tourism studies have empirically investigated and identified how the different characteristics of highly competitive organizations, such as travel agencies, influence competitive advantage in a dynamic environment. This study uses a mediation-moderation analysis for such an empirical examination. A total of 288 travel agencies from Taiwan were analysed. The authors found that travel agencies’ shared goals may influence competitive advantage through characteristics of dynamic capability development, differential strategy implication and social capital accumulation. Greater levels of organizational learning may positively strengthen the relationships between (a) shared goals and dynamic capability, (b) shared goals and social capital, and (c) social capital and competitive advantage. Implications of these findings for managerial and theoretical frameworks are also discussed.

Improving primary sludge dewaterability by oxidative conditioning process with ferrous ion-activated peroxymonosulfate

        Xu Zhou,Wenbiao Jin,Lan Wang,Wanqing Ding,Chuan Chen,Xijun Xu,Renjie Tu,Song-fang Han,Xiaochi Feng,Duu-Jong Lee 한국화학공학회 2020 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.37 No.9

Enhancement of sludge dewaterability is key for sludge management and disposal of wastewater treatment plants (WWTP). In this study, the Fe2+-peroxymonosulfate (PMS) conditioning approach was first used to oxidize the primary sludge from the primary sedimentation tank of a full scale WWTP. The combination of Fe2+ (0.05-0.5 g/g TSS) and PMS (0.05-0.5 g/g TSS) could significantly improve the dewaterability of primary sludge. The optimal addition amount of Fe2+ and PMS was 0.1 g/g TSS and 0.25 g/g TSS, respectively, under which the capillary suction time (CST) and specific resistance to filtration (SRF) of the sludge was reduced by 79% and 95%. The physicochemical properties (particle size, zeta potential, EPS composition) of the primary sludge before and after oxidative conditioning were measured. Results showed that sulfate radicals generated from Fe2+-PMS system effectively reduced organic matter in different EPS fractions, further destroying sludge floc cells. Then the bound water in the sludge flocs was released, thereby improving the sludge dewaterability. The microscopic morphology also indicated that the sludge flocs have a blocky structure with tight texture before conditioning. After conditioning, the sludge flocs become smaller, and many irregular pores are formed on the surface, which facilitates the passage of internal moisture. Economic analysis showed that Fe2++PMS conditioning is more economical than the traditional Fenton method.

Prevalence, Incidence, and Factor Concentrate Usage Trends of Hemophiliacs in Taiwan

        Tsu-Chiang Tu,Wen-Shyong Liou,Tsui-Yun Chou,Tsung-Kun Lin,Chuan-Fang Lee,Jye-Daa Chen,Thau-Ming Cham,Mei-Ing Chung 연세대학교의과대학 2013 Yonsei medical journal Vol.54 No.1

Purpose: Hemophilia A and B (HA, HB) are the most common X-linked inherited bleeding disorders. The introduction of factor concentrates has allowed for control of the lifelong chronic disease. However, no studies have been published regarding the epidemiology of hemophilia in Taiwan. Our aim was to determine the prevalence, incidence, and mortality rate, as well as trends in the use of factor concentrates,in individuals with hemophilia in Taiwan. Materials and Methods: A retrospective study was conducted using the National Health Insurance Research Database between 1997 and 2007. Results: We identified 988 males with hemophilia (HA : HB ratio=5.4 : 1). The mean prevalence per 100000 males was 6.7±0.1 for HA and 1.2±0.1 for HB. The estimated mean annual incidence per live male birth was 1 in 10752 for HA and 1 in 47619 for HB. Standardized mortality ratios for males with hemophilia (all severities) or severe hemophilia were 1.3- and 2.1-fold higher than that of the general male population, respectively. Mean factor VIII (FVIII) and factor IX (FIX) usage was 1.5003±0.4029 and 0.3126±0.0904 international units (IUs) per capita, respectively. Mean FVIII and FIX usage per patient with hemophilia (all severities) or severe hemophilia was 44027±11532 and 72341±17298, respectively, and 49407±13015 and 74369±18411 IUs per person with HA or HB, respectively. Conclusion: Our data revealed epidemiologic and factor concentrate usage trends in males with hemophilia in Taiwan, highlighting a need for improvements in the mandatory National Health Insurance registry. A better-designed, patient-centered registry system would enable more detailed patient information collection and analysis, improving subsequent care.
