        An Analysis of Acoustic Features Caused by Articulatory Changes for Korean Distant-Talking Speech

        Compared to normal speech, distant-talking speech is characterized by the acoustic effect due to interfering sound and echoes as well as articulatory changes resulting from the speaker's effort to be more intelligible. In this paper, the acoustic features for distant-talking speech due to the articulatory changes will be analyzed and compared with those of the Lombard effect. In order to examine the effect of different distances and articulatory changes, speech recognition experiments were conducted for normal speech as well as distant-talking speech at different distances using HTK. The speech data used in this study consist of 4500 distant-talking utterances and 4500 normal utterances of 90 speakers (56 males and 34 females). Acoustic features selected for the analysis were duration, formants (F1 and F2), fundamental frequency, total energy and energy distribution. The results show that the acoustic-phonetic features for distant-talking speech correspond mostly to those of Lombard speech, in that the main resulting acoustic changes between normal and distant-talking speech are the increase in vowel duration, the shift in first and second formant, the increase in fundamental frequency, the increase in total energy and the shift in energy from low frequency band to middle or high bands.

      • 태향유를 활성화하기 위한 소통형태에 대한 연구

        After multimedia was getting popular, Story-telling media created huge digital technology based entertainment. I’d like to find a strategy, which would be the combinational method of entertainment factors to be able to maximize enjoyment for audience, through this study. Telling method is moving forward form how to deliver a story to how efficiently to deliver a story through visual story telling which will be pump up the method form the original storytelling. In this paper, methods, which can maximize entertainment of enjoyment, will be found and studied. First of all, through, analyzing characters of story and animation, and categorizing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd communication method from “Character’s Movement”, research the process of activated connection among them. Finally, discuss how to implement to ““Neighbor Totoro”” with animation example. Based on assigning differentiation of animation characters, we will discuss communication methods. 1. The two-dimensional visual communication of the 1st method using face expression, position, gesture. 2. The derivative communication of the 2nd method for creating the expectation of audience. 3. The unprecedented communication of the 3rd method. I focused on the relation between a character and an audience through the above three communication methods, and analyzed how to implement specific cases to ““Neighbor Totoro””. 멀티미디어시대가 도입된 이래 스토리텔링 매체는 디지털 테크놀로지를 기반으로 거대한 엔터테인먼트를 만들었다, 상상력으로 가능했던 세상은 영화, 애니메이션, 게임 등의 분야에서 직접적이며 구체적인 스토리를 보여주며, 비주얼에 주목하는 세상이 되었다. 그리고 비주얼의 발전은 애니메이션의 발전에 막대한 영향을 주었다. 시각적인 화려함은 보는 즐거움을 선사하고, 애니메이션은 재미와 즐거움까지 더해 애니메이션을 더욱 발전시킬 수 있는 계기로 작용되었다. 사람의 상상력과 손끝에서 나오는 창의적인 표현과 발전된 기술은 함께 작용하여 조화를 이루었다. 나아가 현실의 장벽이 없으며 표현력의 제한이 없다는 애니메이션의 큰 장점으로 부각되었다. 애니메이션은 작품성과 대중성이 함께 지향된다. 작품성은 예술력과 기술력으로 잘 구현하는 창작의 의미를 담고 있는 반면 대중성은 대중이 좋아하고 즐길 수 있는 향유의 의미를 담고 있다. 창작이 새로운 것을 만드는 것을 목표로 한다면 향유란 즐기는 것을 목적으로 한다. “향유란 참여적 수행 과정을 통해서 텍스트를 주체적으로 즐기는 것을 말한다. 이것은 텍스트와의 적극적인 대화과정을 의미하며, 동시에 텍스트에 직접 참여함으로써 텍스트 의미 지평을 확장하고, 취향에 따라 텍스트에 내재하거나 혹은 텍스트가 생산해내는 다양한 구성요소를 참여적 수행을 통하여 즐기는 과정을 말한다.” 향유의 과정은 일반적으로 스토리의 컨셉 및 전개구도, 캐릭터에 따라 영향을 받는다. 하지만 어떤 구성 요소들이 향유를 활성화시킬 수 있는 가하는 모색은 중요한 연구과제로 남아있다.

<B>Differential expression of forkhead box M1 and its downstream cyclin‐dependent kinase inhibitors p27</B><SUP><B>kip1</B></SUP><B> and p21</B><SUP><B>waf1/cip1</B></SUP><B> in the diagnosis of pulmonary neuroendocrine tumours</B></P><P><B>Aims: </B> Pulmonary neuroendocrine (NE) tumours represent a spectrum of phenotypically distinct entities with different biological behaviours. Difficulties in classifying these tumours are frequently encountered in clinical practice. Forkhead box M1 (FoxM1) is essential for the development of various cancers and is a proliferation‐specific transcription factor that regulates transcription of cell cycle genes, including cyclin‐dependent kinase inhibitors p27<SUP>kip1</SUP> and p21<SUP>waf1/cip1</SUP>. This study was performed to determine the utility of FoxM1, p27<SUP>kip1</SUP> and p21<SUP>waf1/cip1</SUP> as immunomarkers for subtyping pulmonary NE tumours.</P><P><B>Methods and results: </B> FoxM1, p27<SUP>kip1</SUP> and p21<SUP>waf1/cip1</SUP> expression was evaluated by immunohistochemistry in 60 pulmonary NE tumours [19 typical carcinoids (TCs), six atypical carcinoids (ACs), 17 large cell neuroendocrine carcinomas (LCNECs) and 18 small cell lung cancers (SCLCs)]. The frequencies of FoxM1 and p21<SUP>waf1/cip1</SUP> expression were significantly different between TCs and ACs (each <I>P</I> = 0.009), and those of FoxM1 and p27<SUP>kip1</SUP> expression were significantly different between LCNECs and SCLCs (<I>P </I>= 0.012 and <I>P </I>= 0.002, respectively). The combined FoxM1<SUP>(−)</SUP>/p21<SUP>waf1/cip1(−)</SUP> and FoxM1<SUP>(+)</SUP>/p27<SUP>kip1(high)</SUP> phenotypes had the best diagnostic accuracy for distinguishing TCs from ACs, and SCLCs from LCNECs, respectively.</P><P><B>Conclusions: </B> FoxM1, p27<SUP>kip1</SUP> and p21<SUP>waf1/cip1</SUP> showed distinct immunoreactivity according to histological subtype, which may be of value as an ancillary test in the differential diagnosis of pulmonary NE tumours.</P>

      • Altered expression of microRNA miR‐21, miR‐155, and let‐7a and their roles in pulmonary neuroendocrine tumors

        <P>MicroRNA (miRNA) has a critical effect on tumorigenesis through post‐transcriptional modification and is considered to be potential biomarkers for cancer diagnosis and treatment monitoring. We evaluated the expression pattern of three selected miRNAs (miR‐21, miR‐155, and let‐7a) to evaluate their potential roles by quantitative reverse transcription‐polymerase chain reaction using formalin‐fixed and paraffin‐embedded tissues of 63 surgically resected pulmonary neuroendocrine (NE) tumors (19 typical carcinoids (TCs), 6 atypical carcinoids (ACs), 19 large cell NE carcinomas (LCNECs), and 19 small cell lung carcinomas (SCLCs). Control amplification for U6 small nuclear RNA (U6) was performed in all samples. Normalized Ct values were calculated (Ct<SUB>Experimental miRNA</SUB>‐Ct<SUB>U6</SUB>) for each case and recorded. The expression levels of miR‐21 and miR‐155 were significantly higher in high‐grade NE carcinomas (LCNECs and SCLCs) than in carcinoid tumors (TCs and ACs) (each <I>P</I> < 0.001). The expression level of miR‐21 in carcinoid tumors with lymph node metastasis was significantly higher than in carcinoid tumors without lymph node metastasis (<I>P</I>= 0.010). To the best of our knowledge, the present study is the first to examine the expression patterns of miR‐21 and miR‐155 as an adjunctive diagnostic tool or clinically relevant biomarkers for pulmonary NE tumors.</P>

      • On the selection of the reference genome in the rice genetic variation study

        Rice is widely dominated by two strain, Indica (Oryza sativa indica) and Japonica (Oryza sativa japonica), and there is a great amount of the genetic diversity between two strain. Understanding the genetic difference and variants between two strain requires high-quality reference genome information. While Nipponbare, a japonica reference sequence, has been mainly used as the rice reference genome, the Indica reference sequences, R93-11 and R498, were recently published. Based on the two reference sequences, in this study, we investigated the effect of the reference genome in the rice genetic study. To this end, we utilized relevant bioinformatic tools and statistical methods to analyze all possible combinations of the reference genome and the variety. In this way, we suggested possible combinations of the reference sequence and the variety suitable for the genetic study of rice.

        Realistic Circuit Model of an Impact-Based Piezoelectric Energy Harvester

        A vibration-based energy harvester and its equivalent circuit models have been reported. Most models predict voltage signals at harmonic excitation. However, vibrations in a natural environment are unpredictable in frequency and amplitude. In this paper, we propose a realistic equivalent circuit model of a frequency-up-converting impact-based piezoelectric energy harvester. It can describe the behavior of the harvester in a real environment where the frequency and the amplitude of the excitation vary arbitrarily. The simulation results of the model were compared with experimental data and showed good agreement. The proposed model can predict both the impact response and long term response in a non-harmonic excitation. The model is also very useful to analyze the performance of energy conversion circuitry with the harvester.

        한반도 미기록 외래식물: 서양쐐기풀

        We found Urtica dioica L., an unrecorded alien plant, in the Han River basin of Korea. U. dioica is considered to be native to Europe, much of temperate Asia and western North Africa. This plant has been introduced to many other parts of the world. In Particularly, it reported as an invasive species from East Asia (Japan), Oceania and South America. This species is distinguished from related Korean taxa of the genus by its unisexual flower and dioecious plant species. In the Neighbor-Joining tree, U. dioica samples from the Han River Park (Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul) and Yangjaecheon Stream (Daechi-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul) clustered into a clade consisting of a U. dioica s.s. Here, we provide a precise description, illustrations, a key to the related taxa, and photographs of its habitat.
