A smart hollow cylinder consisting of a host functionally graded elastic core layer and two surface homogeneous piezoelectric layers is presented in this paper. The bonding between the layers can be perfect or imperfect, depending on the parameters taken in the general linear spring-layer interface model. The effect of such weak interfaces on free vibration and steady-state response is then investigated. Piezoelectric layers at inner and outer surfaces are polarized axially or radially and act as a sensor and an actuator respectively. For a simply supported condition, the state equations with non-constant coefficients are obtained directly from the formulations of elasticity/piezoelasticity. An approximate laminated model is then introduced for the sake of solving the state equations conveniently. It is further assumed that the hollow cylinder is embedded in an elastic medium and is simultaneously filled with compressible fluid. The interaction between the structure and its surrounding media is taken into account. Numerical examples are finally given with discussions on the effect of some related parameters.
Speed Sensorless Control of a Bearingless Induction Motor Based on Modified Robust Kalman Filter
Bian Yifan,Yang Zebin,Sun Xiaodong,Wang Xiang 대한전기학회 2024 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.19 No.3
To enhance the speed identifcation accuracy in speed sensorless control of a bearingless induction motor (BIM), a speed sensorless control strategy based on modifed robust Kalman flter is proposed. Firstly, the suboptimal principle of the H∞ control method is introduced into the extended Kalman flter to construct the robust Kalman flter. Secondly, the rotor fux linkage of the BIM in the α-β coordinate system is discretized, which is used as a reference model and adjustable model in the model reference adaptive system. At the same time, the modifed robust Kalman flter is obtained by combining the robust Kalman flter with the model reference adaptive system. Finally, the simulation and experimental results show that the proposed BIM speed sensorless control system based on modifed robust Kalman flter has higher accuracy of speed identifcation than the extended Kalman flter control under diferent operation conditions of no-load, sudden load, speed change, and motor parameter mismatch. The motor also has a good suspension performance.
Fatigue Strength and Fracture Behaviour of CHS-to-RHS T-Joints Subjected to Out-of-Plane Bending
Bian, Li-Chun,Lim, Jae-Kyoo,Kim, Yon-Jig The Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers 2003 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.17 No.2
The fatigue behaviour of six different hollow section T-joints subjected to out-of-plane bending moment was investigated experimentally using scaled steel models. The joints had circular brace members and rectangular chord members. Hot spot stresses and the stress concentration factors. (SCFs) were determined experimentally. Fatigue testing was carried out under constant amplitude loading in air. The test results have been statistically evaluated, and show that the experimental SCF values for circular-to-rectangular (CHS-to-RHS) hollow section joints were found to be below those of circular-to-circular (CHS-to-CHS) hollow section joints. The fatigue strength, referred to experimental hot spot stress, was in reasonably good agreement with referred fatigue design codes for tubular joints.

Abstract

Ginseng and its active gradient, ginsenoside Rg3 (Rg3), are widely used for a variety of health benefits, but concerns over their misuses are increasing. Previously, it has been reported that Rg3 can cause hemolysis, but its health outcome remains unknown. Here, we demonstrated that Rg3 could promote the procoagulant activity of erythrocytes through the process of hemolysis, ultimately leading to increased thrombosis. In freshly isolated human erythrocytes, Rg3 caused pore formation and fragmentation of the erythrocyte membrane. Confocal microscopy observation and flow cytometric analysis revealed that remnant erythrocyte fragments after the exposure to Rg3 expressed phosphatidylserine (PS), which can promote blood coagulation through providing assembly sites for coagulation complexes. Rat in vivo experiments further confirmed that intravenous administration of Rg3 produced PS-bearing erythrocyte debris and increased thrombosis. Collectively, we demonstrated that Rg3 could induce the procoagulant activity of erythrocytes by generating PS-bearing erythrocyte debris through hemolysis, which might provoke thrombosis.

Highlights

Ginsenoside Rg3, an active ingredient of ginseng, can induce PS bearing erythrocyte fragments through hemolysis.

PS-bearing erythrocyte fragments resulting from Rg3 exposure can accelerate thrombin generation and increase adherence of erythrocytes to endothelial cells.

Rg3 administration potentiated thrombus formation rat in vivo.

Graphical abstract

[DISPLAY OMISSION]

Future prospects of mass-degenerate Higgs bosons in the CP -conserving two-Higgs-doublet model
Bian, Ligong,Chen, Ning,Su, Wei,Wu, Yongcheng,Zhang, Yu American Physical Society 2018 Physical Review D Vol.97 No.11

The scenario of two mass-degenerate Higgs bosons within the general two-Higgs-doublet model (2HDM) is revisited. We focus on the global picture when two CP-even Higgs bosons of h and H are nearly mass-degenerate. A global fit to the signal strength of the 125 GeV Higgs measured at the LHC is performed. Based on the best-fit result of the 2HDM mixing angles (alpha, beta), theoretical constraints, charged and CP-odd Higgs boson direct search constraints and the electroweak precision constraints are imposed to the 2HDM parameter space. We present the signal predictions of the (4b, 2b2 gamma) channels for the benchmark models at the LHC 14 TeV runs. We also study the direct Higgs boson pair productions at the LHC, and the Z-associated Higgs boson pair production search at the ILC 500 GeV runs, as well as the indirect probes at the CEPC 250 GeV run. We find that the massdegenerate Higgs boson scenario in the Type-II 2HDM can be fully probed by these future experimental searches.

The impact of single and dual hydrothermal treatments on the molecular structure, crystalline structure, in vitro digestibility, and physicochemical properties of starches isolated from hydrothermally treated brown rice flour was investigated. Annealed rice starch (ANN) exhibited no significant change in molecular structure, whereas heat-moisture treated rice starch (HMT) showed decreased apparent amylose content, molecular weight of amylopectin, average chain length of amylopectin, and long amylopectin branch chains (DP >=> 37). The relative crystallinity, intensity ratio of 1045 cm(-1)-1015 cm(-1), and gelatinization enthalpy remained unchanged in ANN, but significantly decreased in HMT. In dually modified starches, the HMT-ANN had higher gelatinization temperatures, gelatinization enthalpy, relative crystallinity and ratio of 1045 cm(-1)-1015 cm(-1) than the ANN-HMT. Hydrothermal treatment substantially increased starch digestibility in the granular state, showing increased rapidly digestible starch (RDS) content and decreased resistant starch (RS) content. However, in the gelatinized starches, ANN and HMT showed decreased RDS level and increased slowly digestible starch (SDS) and RS levels. The changes in amounts of RDS, SDS, and RS in ANN, HMT and dually modified starches could be attributed to the alteration of crystalline and molecular structures. (C) 2016 Elsevier Ltd.
