재미 한국계 어머니들과 백인 어머니들의 영유아 교육과 관련된 신념

본 연구에서는 재미 한국계 어머니와 백인 어머니 241명을 교육신념에 따라 비교하고, 교육신념과 교육 실제 간의 관계를 조사하였다. 연구 결과, 한국계 어머니들보다 백인 어머니들이 운동과 순응성 영역을 중요시하는 반면, 학업이나 사회성 영역의 중요성에 대해서는 집단 간의 차이가 없었다. 둘째, 백인 어머니들보다 한국계 어머니들은 영유아의 학업 성공에 있어서 어머니의 도움이 덜 중요한 것으로 생각하고 있었다. 셋째, 교육영역별 중요성에 대한 신념과 영유아?환경 요인에 대한 신념 중 교육실제와 관련성이 더 높은 신념은 한국계 어머니의 경우에는 교육영역별 중요성에 대한 신념이었고, 백인 어머니는 영유아ㆍ환경 요인에 대한 신념으로 발견되었다. The purpose of study is to compare Korean-American mothers with European-American Mothers in terms of the belief on education. Total 241 mothers of 3-5 year-olds in San Diego responded to Educational Attitude Scale, Importance of Effort/Ability Scale, Activities Subscales and reported all the extra-curricular activities their child was participating in. Main results were as follows: First, Korean-American mothers had lower scores on the importance of sports and compliance than European-American mothers. Second, Korean-American mothers thought mother's help was less important while two groups did not differ regarding the importance of child's ability, effort and teacher's instruction. Also, they considered mothers's help was more important in reading. Third, the relationship between mother's belief and their behavior had different pattern depending on the culture.
