Numerical Kinematic Analysis of the Standard Macpherson Motor-Vehicle Suspension System

Attia, Hazem-Ali The Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers 2003 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.17 No.12

In this paper, an efficient numerical algorithm for the kinematic analysis of the standard MacPherson suspension system is presented. The kinematic analysis of the suspension mechanism is carried out in terms of the rectangular Cartesian coordinates of some defined points in the links and at the kinematic joints. Geometric constraints that fix the distances between the points belonging to the same rigid link are introduced. The nonlinear constraint equations are solved by iterative numerical methods. The corresponding linear equations of the velocity and acceleration are solved to yield the velocities and accelerations of the unknown points. The velocities and accelerations of other points of interest as well as the angular velocity and acceleration of any link in the mechanism can be calculated.

Protective effects of cardamom aqueous extract against tamoxifen-induced pancreatic injury in female rats

        Attia Hala,Alzoubi Afraa,Al-anazi Nour,Alshanwani Aliah,El-Orabi Naglaa,Alanteet Alaa,Mohamad Raeesa,Ali Rehab 한국독성학회 2023 Toxicological Research Vol.39 No.4

Tamoxifen (TAM) is a commonly used drug for breast cancer treatment. Although effective, TAM has deleterious effects on many organs. The toxic effects of TAM on the pancreas and the underlying mechanisms however, have not fully investigated. In the present study, we investigated the effects of TAM on the pancreatic tissue in female rats. We also examined whether cardamom aqueous extract (CAE) protects against TAM-induced pancreatic injury. TAM-intoxicated rats were injected with 45 mg/kg of TAM for 10 days, whereas rats in the CAE-treated group were administered 10 mL/kg of CAE for 20 days, starting 10 days prior to TAM administration. Treatment with TAM resulted in severe degeneration of the pancreatic acini and marked increases in the serum levels of pancreatic lipase, α-amylase, glucose, fatty acids and triglycerides along with decreased insulin serum levels. TAM led to oxidative stress as evident from a significant increase in the pancreatic levels of lipid peroxides and nitric oxide along with the depletion of reduced glutathione, glutathione peroxidase, and superoxide dismutase. Moreover, inflammation was indicated by a significant increase in tumor necrosis factor–α and interleukin-6 levels, enhanced expression of the macrophage recruitment marker; CD68 as well as up-regulated protein levels of toll-like receptor 4 and nuclear factor kappa B and increased p-p38/MAPK ratio; which are important signals in the production of inflammatory cytokines. TAM also markedly increased the pancreatic levels of caspase-3 and BAX reflecting its apoptotic effects. The CAE treatment ameliorated all the biochemical and histological changes induced by TAM. The present study revealed, for the first time, that TAM has toxic effects on the pancreatic tissue through oxidative stress, inflammation and apoptotic effects. The present study also provides evidence that CAE exerts cytoprotective effects against these deleterious effects induced by TAM in the pancreatic tissue.

A Computer Method for the Dynamic Analysis of a System of Rigid Bodies in Plane Motion

Attia, Hazem-Ali The Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers 2004 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.18 No.2

This paper presents a computer method for the dynamic analysis of a system of rigid bodies in plane motion. The formulation rests upon the idea of replacing a rigid body by a dynamically equivalent constrained system of particles. Newton's second law is applied to study the motion of the resulting system of particles without introducing any rotational coordinates. A velocity transformation is used to transform the equations of motion to a reduced set. For an open-chain, this process automatically eliminates all of the non-working constraint forces and leads to an efficient integration of the equations of motion. For a closed-chain, suitable joints should be cut and few cut-joints constraint equations should be included. An example of a closed-chain is used to demonstrate the generality and efficiency of the proposed method.

NOTE ON THE MULTIFRACTAL MEASURES OF CARTESIAN PRODUCT SETS

        Attia, Najmeddine,Guedri, Rihab,Guizani, Omrane Korean Mathematical Society 2022 대한수학회논문집 Vol.37 No.4

In this paper, we shall be concerned with evaluation of multifractal Hausdorff measure 𝓗q,t𝜇 and multifractal packing measure 𝓟q,t𝜇 of Cartesian product sets by means of the measure of their components. This is done by investigating the density result introduced in [34]. As a consequence, we get the inequalities related to the multifractal dimension functions, proved in [35], by using a unified method for all the inequalities. Finally, we discuss the extension of our approach to studying the multifractal Hewitt-Stromberg measures of Cartesian product sets.

        RELATIVE MULTIFRACTAL SPECTRUM

Attia, Najmeddine Korean Mathematical Society 2018 대한수학회논문집 Vol.33 No.2

We obtain a relation between generalized Hausdorff and packing multifractal premeasures and generalized Hausdorff and packing multifractal measures. As an application, we study a general formalism for the multifractal analysis of one probability measure with respect to an other.

        REGULARITIES OF MULTIFRACTAL HEWITT-STROMBERG MEASURES

Attia, Najmeddine,Selmi, Bilel Korean Mathematical Society 2019 대한수학회논문집 Vol.34 No.1

We construct new metric outer measures (multifractal analogues of the Hewitt-Stromberg measure) $H^{q,t}_{\mu}$ and $P^{q,t}_{\mu}$ lying between the multifractal Hausdorff measure ${\mathcal{H}}^{q,t}_{\mu}$ and the multifractal packing measure ${\mathcal{P}}^{q,t}_{\mu}$. We set up a necessary and sufficient condition for which multifractal Hausdorff and packing measures are equivalent to the new ones. Also, we focus our study on some regularities for these given measures. In particular, we try to formulate a new version of Olsen's density theorem when ${\mu}$ satisfies the doubling condition. As an application, we extend the density theorem given in [3].

Sorption of $Pb^{2+}$ Ions on to Activated Carbons Prepared from Olive Stones

Attia, Amina. A.,Shouman, Mona. A.,El-Nabarawy, Th. Korean Carbon Society 2005 Carbon Letters Vol.6 No.3

The carbon sample "O", phosphoric acid-activated carbon "OP", zinc chloride-activated carbon "OZ", and two steam activated carbons "OS" and "OS2" with different burn-off of 25% and 58% respectively, were prepared from olive stones. The textural properties were determined from the results of nitrogen adsorption at 77 K and by analyzing these results through the application of different adsorption models. The chemistry of the carbon surfaces was determined from the base neutralization capacities, acid neutralization capacity and surface pH. The sorption of $Pb^{2+}$ ions on to the carbons prepared was followed under dynamic and equilibrium conditions. The differences between the values of the textural parameters were attributed to the inapplicability of some adsorption models and to the heterogeneity of the microporous carbons. The sorption of $Pb^{2+}$ ions is favored on carbon and activated carbons. However, chemically activated carbons are more effective compared with steam-activated ones. The sorption of $Pb^{2+}$ ions were related to the chemistry of the surface rather than to the textural properties.

A refined four variable plate theory for thermoelastic analysis of FGM plates resting on variable elastic foundations

        Attia, Amina,Bousahla, Abdelmoumen Anis,Tounsi, Abdelouahed,Mahmoud, S.R.,Alwabli, Afaf S. Techno-Press 2018 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.65 No.4

In this paper, an efficient higher-order shear deformation theory is presented to analyze thermomechanical bending of temperature-dependent functionally graded (FG) plates resting on an elastic foundation. Further simplifying supposition are made to the conventional HSDT so that the number of unknowns is reduced, significantly facilitating engineering analysis. These theory account for hyperbolic distributions of the transverse shear strains and satisfy the zero traction boundary conditions on the surfaces of the plate without using shear correction factors. Power law material properties and linear steady-state thermal loads are assumed to be graded along the thickness. Nonlinear thermal conditions are imposed at the upper and lower surface for simply supported FG plates. Equations of motion are derived from the principle of virtual displacements. Analytical solutions for the thermomechanical bending analysis are obtained based on Fourier series that satisfy the boundary conditions (Navier's method). Non-dimensional results are compared for temperature-dependent FG plates and validated with those of other shear deformation theories. Numerical investigation is conducted to show the effect of material composition, plate geometry, and temperature field on the thermomechanical bending characteristics. It can be concluded that the present theory is not only accurate but also simple in predicting the thermomechanical bending responses of temperature-dependent FG plates.

A Recursive Algorithm for Generating the Equations of Motion of Spatial Mechanical Systems with Application to the Five-Point Suspension

Attia, Hazem-Ali The Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers 2004 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.18 No.4

In this paper, a recursive formulation for generating the equations of motion of spatial mechanical systems is presented. The rigid bodies are replaced by a dynamically equivalent constrained system of particles which avoids introducing any rotational coordinates. For the open-chain system, the equations of motion are generated recursively along the serial chains using the concepts of linear and angular momenta Closed-chain systems are transformed to open-chain systems by cutting suitable kinematic joints and introducing cut-joint constraints. The formulation is used to carry out the dynamic analysis of multi-link five-point suspension. The results of the simulation demonstrate the generality and simplicity of the proposed dynamic formulation.

The Effect of Suction and Injection on Unsteady Flow of a Dusty Conducting Fluid in Rectangular Channel

Attia Hazem Ali The Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers 2005 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.19 No.5

In the present study, the unsteady Hartmann flow of a dusty viscous incompressible electrically conducting fluid under the influence of an exponentially decreasing pressure gradient is studied without neglecting the ion slip. The parallel plates are assumed to be porous and subjected to a uniform suction from above and injection from below. The fluid is acted upon by an external uniform magnetic field which is applied perpendicular to the plates. An analytical solution for the governing equations of motion is obtained to yield the velocity distributions for both the fluid and dust particles.
