미국 하와이주 주민 및 쥐의 Hantaan virus 감염에 대한 혈청 역학적 조사

Korean hemorrhagic fever was known to the world for the first time during the Korean War and its causative agent, Hantaan virus was discovered by Lee and Lee in 1976. Following this discovery, it became apparent that similar diseases such as Hemorrhagic nephrosonephritis in the Soviet Union, Nephropathia epidemica in Scandinavia, Epidemic hemorrhagic fever in China and Japan and Epidemic nephritis in Eastern Europe are caused by Hantaan and related viruses. Therefore in 1982, WHO recornmanded that the above mentioned diseases with different names should be refered to as Haemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS). Recent seroepidemiologic surveys show that closely related agents antigenically similar to Hantaan virus are widely distributed in the world to a much greater geographic extent than previously recognized. This study was to prove the existence of Hantaan or related virus infection among the residents and the rats in the Hawaiian islands that is located in the center of the Pacific Ocean and the results are surnmarized as follows: 1. Rattus rattus, Rattus norvegicus, and Rattus exulans had antibodies against Hantaan yirus in the proportion of 84 to 1,159 (7.2%), 30 to 169 (17%), and 12 to 202 (5.9%) respectively. 2. Among 216 healthy Hawaiians, 4 persons had antibodies (1.9%). However, prevalence of antibody to Hantaan virus among Vector Control Personnel worked in Hawaii State Department of Health was 30.6% (11/36). 3. Hantaan virus antigen was not demonstrable in the lung tissues of antibody positive rats. 4. Up to the present tirne, there was no patient ever diagnosed as Haemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome clinically in the Hawaiian islands. The results of this study indicate that Hantaan virus or similar virus exists in the Hawaiian islands and further study is needed to demonstrate the occurrence of HFRS patient and to isolate Hantavirus in this area.

Objective: Uncorrected atrial septal defect (ASD) leads to pulmonary vascular disease (PVD) later in adulthood. Attempts to close the defect have proven to be detrimental in the presence of PVD. Although right heart catheterization (RHC) is the gold standard for PVD, it remains an invasive approach with complications. Notch characteristics on the right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) Doppler correlate well with parameters of pulmonary hypertension. Therefore, this study evaluated whether time-to-notch RVOT Doppler could detect PVD in adults with ASD. Materials and Methods: Between March 2019 and June 2020, we consecutively sampled adult patients with ostium secundum ASD. Time-to-notch was examined by transthoracic echocardiogram within 24 hours of RHC. A vasoreactivity test was performed when the ratio of resistance arterial pulmonary to systemic (PVR:SVR) was ≥0.33. PVD was diagnosed if the final resistance ratio was ≥0.33. Results: We analysed 89 subjects with ASD. A vasoreactivity test was performed in 54 patients with pure oxygen, and 37% (n=24) had PVD. The majority of subjects in this study were women (85%) with a median age of 38 years. The time-to-notch RVOT Doppler was significantly shorter in subjects with PVD compared to those without (132±17 ms vs. 177±29 ms, p<0.001). The area under the curve was 0.923 for time-to-notch to predict PVR:SVR ≥0.33. A cutoff point of <147.5 ms was able to detect PVD (sensitivity 88%, specificity 87%, positive predictive value 72%, negative predictive value 95%, positive likelihood ratio [LR] 7.11, and negative LR 0.14). Conclusion: Time-to-notch RVOT Doppler has substantial predictive value in detecting PVD in secundum ASD-pulmonary arterial hypertension populations.
Optical properties of carbon nanofiber photonic crystals

Carbon nanofibers (CNFs) are used as components of planar photonic crystals. Square and rectangular lattices and random patterns of vertically aligned CNFs were fabricated and their properties studied using ellipsometry. We show that detailed information such as symmetry directions and the band structure of these novel materials can be extracted from considerations of the polarization state in the specular beam. The refractive index of the individual nanofibers was found to be nCNF = 4.1.

We demonstrate an electrically tunable 2D photonic crystal array constructed from vertically aligned carbon nanofibers. The nanofibers are actuated by applying a voltage between adjacent carbon nanofiber pairs grown directly on metal electrodes, thus dynamically changing the form factor of the photonic crystal lattice. The change in optical properties is characterized using optical diffraction and ellipsometry. The experimental results are shown to be in agreement with theoretical predictions and provide a proof-of-principle for rapidly switchable photonic crystals operating in the visible that can be fabricated using standard nanolithography techniques combined with plasma CVD growth of the nanofibers.

Graphic Abstract
