The palm leaf text of the Southern Khmer and the South Central Cham people is one of the precious and rare documents of Theravada Buddhism and Brahmanism. This is considered one of the cultural heritage documents containing the cultural and historical values of the Khmer and Cham that they are handed down, carefully preserved and worshiped as gods. In this study, we use qualitative research methods with fieldwork and interview techniques, research available sources and combine historical and logical methods. Thereby, we compared the typical value of palm leaf texts of Khmer and Cham people through historical value and cultural value. At the same time, the study also proposes some solutions in preserving palm leaf texts through some experiences in some countries in Asia and Southeast Asia. Therefore, we can see that the urgency and importance in preserving and promoting the value of palm leaf text in the face of its disappearance and loss is taking place strongly.

At different times in the 19th century, the Straits Settlements and Cochinchina were both colonies that the British and the French captured the earliest in their process of invasion of Malaya and Vietnam, respectively. This study examines the transitional stage from the traditional school system to colonial school system in the Straits Settlements and Cochinchina. This could also be considered an experimental stage for building later education systems in their expanded colonies, namely British Malaya and French Indochina, from the closing decades of the 19th century to the middle of the 20th century. This study, exploiting various sources and applying the comparative approach, identifies the factors that affected the different attitudes and choices of policy towards traditional education models of indigenous communities (the Malays and Vietnamese) pursued by the British in the Straits Settlements and the French in Cochinchina.

<P>Cadmium sulfide (CdS) is a semiconducting absorber for photoelectrochemical (PEC) hydrogen production with suitable electronic band structures. However, it suffers from severe photocorrosion and rapid charge recombination during the desired PEC reactions. Herein, we describe the identification of the optimal junction thickness of CdS/MoS<SUB>2</SUB> core/sheath heterojunction nanostructures by employing atomic layer deposition (ALD) techniques. ALD-grown MoS<SUB>2</SUB> sheath layers with different thicknesses were realized on single-crystalline CdS nanorod (NR) arrays on transparent conducting oxide substrates. We further monitored the resulting solar H<SUB>2</SUB> evolution performance with our heterojunction photoanodes. The results showed that the junction thickness of MoS<SUB>2</SUB> plays a key role in the reduction of photocorrosion and the enhanced photocurrent density by optimizing the charge separation. A better saturation photocurrent (∼46%) was obtained with the 7 nm-thick MoS<SUB>2</SUB>@CdS NRs than that with the bare CdS NRs. Moreover, the external quantum efficiency was increased twofold over that of the pristine CdS NRs. The ALD-grown MoS<SUB>2</SUB>@CdS heterojunction structures provides an efficient and versatile platform for hydrogen production when combining ALD-grown MoS<SUB>2</SUB> with ideal semiconducting absorbers.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>
A Study on the Classifications and Symbolic Meanings of Vietnamese Traditional Patterns

This study clarified the classifications of Vietnamese traditional patterns and analyzed the symbolic meanings that reflect the emotional and cultural background of the Vietnamese. The type and symbolism of Vietnamese traditional patterns were analyzed through research on the history of Vietnamese costumes, the history of Vietnamese arts, the history of Vietnamese traditional culture, and a Vietnamese museum survey. The results of this study were as follows: 1. Animal patterns are diverse and include dragons, unicorns, tortoises, phoenixes, cranes, lions, bats, tigers, and buffalo patterns. 2. Dragon patterns are the most utilized pattern for practical purposes. They are often used in royal costumes, Vietnamese traditional dresses, mandarin boots, bamboo fans, silk, satin, ceramics, and other detailed decorations. 3. The patterns symbolized fortune that meant good luck and longevity so people can live long and happy. Then the symbolic meanings of patterns were followed by prosperity, nobleness, apotropism, prolificacy, and wealth. 4. Since the most of animal patterns have symbolic meanings of fortune and longevity, animal patterns can be utilized as the source of traditional patterns of design inspiration for the development of Vietnamese modern patterns and the application on Vietnamese fashion products.
Single-Phase Modified Quasi-Z-Source Cascaded Hybrid Five-Level Inverter

<P>This paper proposes the combination of a novel modified quasi-Z-source (MqZS) inverter with a single-phase symmetrical hybrid three-level inverter in order to boost the inverter three-level output voltage. The proposed single-phase MqZS hybrid three-level inverter provides a higher boost ability and reduces the number of inductors in the source impedance, compared with both the single-phase three-level neural-point clamped quasi-Z-source inverter and the single-phase quasi-Z-source cascaded multilevel inverter. Additionally, it can be extended to obtain the nine-level output voltage by cascading two three-level pulse width modulation switching cells with a separate MqZS and a dc source, which herein is called a single-phase MqZS cascaded hybrid five-level inverter (MqZS-CHI). A modified modulation technique based on an alternative phase opposition disposition scheme is suggested to effectively control the shoot-through state for boosting the dc-link voltage and balancing the two series capacitor voltages of the MqZS. The performances of both the proposed MqZS-CHI and the modulation techniques are verified through simulation and experimental results.</P>

This paper proposes new active switched-capacitor and switched-inductor Z-source inverter (ASC/SL-ZSI) topologies, which can provide a higher boost ability with a small shoot-through time. The proposed ASC/SL-ZSIs inherit all of the advantages of the classical ZSI, and have a stronger voltage boost inversion ability when compared with the classical ZSI. Thus, the output ac voltage quality is significantly improved. In addition, more cells can be cascaded in the impedance network in order to obtain a very high boost ability. The proposed topologies can be applied to photovoltaic or fuel-cell generation systems with low-voltage renewal sources due to their wide range of obtainable voltages. Both simulations and the experimental results are carried out in order to verify performance of the proposed topologies.
Capacitor‑assisted active‑switched quasi‑Z‑source inverters with high voltage gain

This paper presents a novel topology called the capacitor-assisted active-switched quasi Z-source inverter (CA/AS-qZSI). The proposed CA/AS-qZSI topology has a high ac voltage gain and low voltage and current stresses on the diodes and extra switch in the Z-network. The design guide of the passive elements used in the proposed topology and a comparative study of the proposed CA/AS-qZSI and four other topologies with an active-switched impedance network are addressed. A new pulse-width modulation (PWM) technique using a sawtooth carrier signal is also suggested to reduce the switching losses of the diodes and switches. Compared with the traditional simple boost control method, the efficiency of CA/AS-qZSI using the new PWM technique is improved by 4–4.6%. The experimental results utilizing a prototype made in the laboratory demonstrate the performance of the proposed CA/AS-qZSI and PWM technique.
